Port Elizabeth Holidays 2023 & 2024

Where to stay & things to do in
Port Elizabeth Holidays 2023 & 2024

  • Port Elizabeth, or as it is now known, Gqeberha, is situated at the western end of South Africa‘s sunshine coast, right in between Cape Town and Durban. The white sandy beaches and emerald waters are what make the city so appealing to visitors. Nicknamed the friendly city, expect a laid-back, relaxing atmosphere and plenty of smiles as you stroll along Algoa Bay.

  • When visiting Gqeberha, consider putting time aside and seeing the beautiful sandy beaches. Relax with a good book, listen to music or admire the stunning setting as you enjoy some well-deserved vitamin D. If it's an adventure you seek, look no further. Plenty of different water sports and activities are available at Wildside, Blue Horizon, Beachview, and other less populated spots.

Gqeberha’s marine life is sensational. Book a boat trip and head out onto the Indian Ocean or grab a snorkel and explore the warm waters surrounding the bay. From beautiful stingrays to dolphins and whales, you'll be able to spot some of the most stunning species in crystal-clear waters all year round.

Port Elizabeth Opera House is not only the oldest theatre in Africa but also the oldest one in the Southern Hemisphere. Established in 1892, this opera house has undergone transformations over the years; however, it has still held onto some of its most original and iconic features. With shows and tours in operation, we highly recommend taking a trip to the theatre whilst in town.

Take home some authentic handmade jewellery and wood carvings from the Wezandla African Craft Traders. You'll find everything from clothing to wall hangings, cushion covers and fertility dolls, all crafted by South African and Zimbabwean groups. You’ll find a delightful little coffee shop nearby when you're all shopped out.

  • When it comes to eating in Gqeberha, you’ll find a vast selection of different cuisines influenced by Britain, Greece, Germany and, of course, South Africa. For some unforgettable outdoor dining, visit Stanley Street. With a selection of different bread, pastries and sandwiches, as well as sushi, seafood, pizza and curry, to name a few, it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a bite to eat. Whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner, you’ll find something for everyone when you visit Stanley Street.

  • Gqeberha has a subtropical climate with an average of 112 rainy days per year, with the wettest month being June; however, the winters remain pleasant and mild, whilst the summers are sunny and warm. In June through August, winter arrives in Gqeberha, with temperatures remaining at a cool 15°C. If you plan your vacation to coincide with the summer, December to February are the best times to book, with temperatures reaching a toasty 27°C.
