Timberland Lake Campground: The Quintessential New Jersey Family Camping Experience
For New Jersey residents seeking a traditional, family-oriented outdoor escape, Timberland Lake Campground in Jackson Township provides an "old fashioned" camping experience nestled near the excitement of Central Jersey’s major attractions. This established campground is a true nature retreat, offering a variety of accommodations from tent sites and cabins to full-hookup sites for RVs and seasonal campers. Spanning 54 wooded acres, the park is built around a five-acre lake, providing a serene environment that feels miles away from the urban rush, yet remains easily accessible for local users.
Timberland Lake Campground aims to be a complete destination, focusing on fun, relaxation, and memory-making for families. It offers a balanced mix of natural beauty and structured recreational activities, ensuring there is always something to do for all ages. While the campground is an older, established facility—which sometimes means some areas may show their age, as is common with any long-standing public recreational spot—it remains a beloved, friendly spot for both transient visitors and long-term seasonal campers. Its management and friendly staff work hard to cultivate a welcoming atmosphere, making it a viable and appealing option for a local family vacation.

If it were not for the friendly neighbors, I would give this place one star. Heard a lot of good things about the campground so decided to give it a try for Labor Day weekend. The place certainly is showing its age. The sites are not maintained. The seasonal campers are not required to maintain their sites or campers. No one follows the 11pm quiet hours. Someone decided to light off m-80’s and other fireworks at midnight. The power in our section is still on fuses. Lost power multiple times. Camp store is not cleaned. Food products covered in dust. Bathrooms are not maintained. People speeding left and right and blowing dust every where. Such a shame as I was hoping to have found a new place to visit.
Sep 01, 2025 · Michael FLoved the atmosphere and all there was to do! 3 different parks for littles, a pool, a basketball court, and paddle boat rentals and fishing! I wish they put a little more effort and involvement into advertising their "event weekends", as we went for one of them and didn't do a single activity because there was so hint that it was even going on. But the place is well kept and nice and a great time.
Jul 25, 2025 · MaKayla WoodworthPretty disappointed. I tried ignoring all the negative reviews, and went for it any way on 4th of July weekend. People were loud, way past quiet hours, everyone sped around in their golf carts and regular cars. Also did it while drunk. Watched a golf cart come within inches of smashing into a tree. Basically the other campers were loud and obnoxious and rude. But let's go to what the campground CAN control. The site was dirty. Trash all over it. The bathhouse was awful. Felt dirtier coming out then going in. No dog run. No lake swimming. Lake was not that great. We actually left the campground to go fishing and paddleboarding near by. Playground was pretty run down and trash everywhere. A water pipe broke while we were there turning our site in to a waterfront site. The only positive I can give is that they did promptly fix it and apologize. The sitting water then just made the mosquitos worse. Will not be returning.
Jul 13, 2025 · Sierra ScofPretty good campground overall, but you can tell the playground swings dont get much maintenance if any at all, they wobble a lot, but seem relatively stable for now, the bathrooms are disgusting, almost like their never cleaned or maintained, the stalls barely conceal you in the showers and people can literally just look in at you, but there are many activities for children, the bathroomd are the only downside, also if you visit say hi to Camper, the shop dog! (Hes a bit timid) Also the rule that anyone under 18 has to be accompanied by someone 21 or older for the pool is bs in my opinion, sixteen year olds can be literal lifeguards but cant swim on their own!
Jul 12, 2025 · Echo NoelleIf I could give zero stars I would. I camping with my daughter on Father's Day and was verbally assaulted by the seasonal friends of the owners after I asked them to not walk thru my site. They then said they would run over my tent with my daughter In it with their giant lifted pickup truck with stickers all over it(you can guess)She was 7 and horrified to hear this. Scared to death at the people screaming at her. Disgusting, trashy threating and the worst experience I had camping ever. The seasonal campers there are rude, loud and nasty to anyone who isn't a 'regular'. They called myself and my daughter liars and we had to leave. I reversed my credit card charges and would never ever camp In this horror show ever again. To call a child a liar, horrifying!!!!
