CLEAR CREEK (MS) (recgovnpsdata) About
For many of us in Mississippi, the appeal of a peaceful retreat into nature, especially near one of our beautiful lakes, is undeniable. Clear Creek Campground, nestled within the picturesque landscape surrounding Sardis Lake, has long been known for its stunning views and excellent opportunities for water activities. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this campground holds the promise of a serene escape, a place where you can launch your boat, cast a line, or simply enjoy the tranquility of the forest.
Sardis Lake, a vast reservoir covering over 98,000 acres, is a true gem of North Mississippi, renowned for its excellent fishing, particularly crappie, and a wide array of water sports. Clear Creek Campground aims to provide direct access to these recreational possibilities, making it an attractive option for locals looking to enjoy a weekend of boating, swimming, or simply soaking up the sun by the water. The surrounding forests offer opportunities for hiking and mountain biking, allowing visitors to explore the natural beauty of the region on foot or by pedal.
However, it's important for potential visitors from Mississippi to approach Clear Creek Campground with realistic expectations, especially considering recent feedback from fellow campers. While the setting undeniably offers a beautiful backdrop for outdoor adventures, and the camp lots are generally well-spaced for privacy, some recent experiences suggest a decline in maintenance and upkeep. Older reviews often praised the campground, but more current assessments highlight concerns regarding the condition of facilities and general cleanliness. For example, reports of neglected bathrooms with sanitation issues, loose wiring at power boxes, and general trash and debris around the site are points of concern that future visitors should be aware of. It appears that while the natural beauty remains, the infrastructure may require some significant attention.
Despite these recent challenges, the inherent beauty of its location on Sardis Lake means Clear Creek still offers a foundational appeal for those who prioritize proximity to water activities and a more rustic camping experience. For the truly adventurous or those with self-contained RVs who can be less reliant on campground facilities, the breathtaking views and access to the lake might still make it a worthwhile consideration. It's a testament to the potential of this spot, even with its current reported shortcomings. It serves as a reminder that while the natural setting is always inviting, the comfort and safety of the facilities play a crucial role in the overall camping experience.

Its proximity to Oxford means that campers have relatively easy access to town amenities, including grocery stores, restaurants, and other services, should they need to resupply or simply desire a meal out. For Mississippians, Clear Creek Campground on Sardis Lake holds a unique position. Its primary suitability for locals lies in its magnificent natural setting and unparalleled access to Sardis Lake. We understand the allure of our state’s beautiful reservoirs, and Clear Creek truly delivers on the promise of stunning lake views and abundant opportunities for water-based recreation. If your passion is fishing, boating, or simply spending a day by the water, the direct access to Sardis Lake from Clear Creek is a significant advantage, putting you right in the heart of prime recreational territory without a long drive.
However, it’s crucial for locals to approach Clear Creek with a clear understanding of its current state. Recent reviews suggest that while the natural setting is beautiful, the infrastructure and maintenance of the campground itself have unfortunately declined. For those who own self-contained RVs and are less reliant on public bathhouses or perfect power pedestals, the beauty of the location and the access to the lake might still outweigh the reported drawbacks. If you're someone who enjoys a more rustic, "no-frills" camping experience and prioritizes being immersed in nature over perfectly pristine facilities, Clear Creek might still offer the peaceful escape you seek.
For local families or those looking for a more comfortable or amenity-rich experience, it would be wise to consider this feedback carefully. The charm of Clear Creek undoubtedly lies in its natural beauty and location, but campers should be prepared for potential issues with cleanliness and upkeep of shared facilities. It represents a classic Mississippi outdoor spot with immense potential that, at present, might appeal more to the very hardy and self-sufficient local camper who can overlook infrastructural shortcomings in favor of a beautiful lake setting. It remains a place to create outdoor memories, but perhaps with a bit more self-reliance than other campgrounds might demand.

A beautiful setting that offers stunning views of Sardis Lake. Awesome for water activities. The various parts of the park are not well labeled or sigh posted, so checking the area before visiting was aiding. My camping experience was mixed however, although the camp lots were well spaced apart, the general site was far from well maintained. The power box at the camp site had several lose wires as pictured and the bathrooms were shocking, heaps of bugs all over the floor and a smell that could only be due to a lack of sanitation.
No one is keeping this campground up, trash and debris left behind, mattresses, tires, broken coolers laying around…half the campground is closed down and roped off. Bathrooms have years of cobwebs and neglect. Rotten wood, missing lights, Windows of bath house have been boarded up causing it to be sauna temps and moisture inside. Floors stay wet, rusty pipes, dead gnats embedded on wet toilet paper rolls. Think “ Walking Dead” set. This is what it reminded me of. This place had a good rating, but after reading all the good reviews, they were from 3-4 years ago. We ended up sleeping in our car. Heard trees falling in the woods. If you need a place to park your car over night to sleep in it and can pee in the woods then I guess this will do. Super sad, cause this place had so much potential. Its like it was abandoned by the owners. Guy at front entrance said no need to check in he just cleans bathrooms, but no way does he do that!! Wish i had taken a picture. One camper came out in towel and said she was dressing at her camp site. .. it was so bad. There probably was 3 campers total in the rest of the place.. overgrown abandoned campground!
The electrical was dangerous and shocked my husband with enough volts to kill him when he tried to plug in a lamp. Thankfully he just got minor nuerological issues from the shock.
Great quiet park. There's lots of picnic areas and a decent mountain bike trail. The park has a boat launch for entry into Lake Sardis.
The campground is absolutely awful and needs a lot of work. The bathrooms were missing doors to the stalls, toilet was leaking and water was all over the floor, no soap, tp was soaking wet, bugs everywhere, and horrible smell. Most of the area is closed. Leaves were super deep and having to walk through it from the car to the tent was not fun, especially with all the ticks.
