Oak Grove COE campground About

For those of us in Mississippi who cherish the great outdoors, finding the perfect spot to unwind and reconnect with nature is always a top priority. Look no further than Oak Grove COE Campground, nestled on the picturesque shores of Sardis Lake. This highly-regarded campground, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, offers a fantastic blend of convenience, natural beauty, and recreational opportunities, making it an ideal escape for families, fishing enthusiasts, and anyone looking to breathe in some fresh Mississippi air.

Oak Grove COE Campground is designed with the modern camper in mind, providing amenities that ensure a comfortable stay while still allowing you to immerse yourself in the tranquility of the lake and surrounding forests. Whether you're a seasoned RV traveler with all the comforts of home or prefer the rustic charm of tent camping, Oak Grove offers a welcoming environment for all. It's a place where you can wake up to the sounds of nature, spend your days exploring the lake, and gather around a campfire under a blanket of stars. This campground truly embodies the spirit of Mississippi outdoor living, offering a peaceful retreat without venturing too far from home.

The campground's reputation for well-maintained sites and beautiful scenery is well-earned. Visitors consistently praise the spaciousness of the campsites and the easy access to the lake, which is known for its excellent fishing. While some older reviews might mention "first come, first serve," it's important for local users to know that reservations are now primarily handled online through Recreation.gov. Planning ahead is key, especially given that cellular data coverage (like Verizon) can be spotty in the area, which is a common characteristic of many beautiful, secluded natural spots. Rest assured, the camp hosts are diligent in checking registrations, ensuring a smooth and organized experience for everyone.

Oak Grove COE Campground is more than just a place to park your RV or pitch a tent; it’s a gateway to the vast recreational possibilities of Sardis Lake. As part of a comprehensive flood control plan, Sardis Lake spans an impressive 98,000 acres of land and water, offering endless opportunities for adventure. From serene mornings spent fishing for the lake's nationally recognized crappie to lively afternoons boating or sailing, there's always something to do here. The surrounding forests invite exploration, with opportunities for hiking and wildlife watching. It's a true gem for Mississippians seeking both relaxation and active outdoor pursuits.

Location and Accessibility

Oak Grove COE Campground is conveniently located at MS-315, Sardis, MS 38666, USA. This prime location places it directly on Sardis Lake, making water-based activities incredibly accessible. For those traveling by road, the campground is approximately 10 miles from Interstate 55, providing a relatively easy drive from various parts of Mississippi. The nearby towns of Sardis and Batesville are just a short drive away, offering access to essential supplies and services if needed. The clear directions and proximity to major routes make it a straightforward destination for local Mississippians. While the natural setting means cellular service can be somewhat limited, this often adds to the charm of disconnecting and truly enjoying your time in nature. Remember to download any necessary reservation information before you arrive, as online access might be challenging once you're in the heart of the campground.

FHU campground on a beatiful little lake. I read online that it is First come First serve (not correct). You have to reserve online at recreation.gov, which is hard to do with barely any data coverage(verizon). The camp host WILL come check that you registered. Bathrooms need a good cleaning, no soap/dispenser to wash hands.

Friendly and helpful Ranger helped us find the right spot. Grounds are well cared for and the lake looks promising for fish. Full service camp sites spaced well apart.

We arrived during wind and rain. I had been warned the site I had #66 would be submerged in water, so the gracious Host and I discussed it right away. I went to the reservation website, we rode around until we found one available for our week - that was on higher ground, #16. I changed the reservation and it was great. The weather cleared! The sewer hookup is a very long way from the camper, would need 4 hoses. The pad is level, but crumbling some. Had to take care of the ants. The bathhouse is fine, if you don't mind cobwebs. Nice people all around. I'm glad we chose this campground.

The campground itself is beautiful, quit and the hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. Only the bathhouse next to us deserves a better cleaning service.

Site #65. The good, it's by the water with nice views, and boat launch. The bad, it's by the boat launch... If you don't mind boats keeping you from sleeping late at night, or early in the morning, then this is your spot. It rained enough last night that it's obvious this is a good spot if you don't care if your seating area is flooded. Not sure why our camp spot wasn't cleaned before we arrived. The picnic table was particularly dirty. The best was the thick layer of cooking grease left by someone slathered on the table top. Price is good for what you get, that's about it. The septic lines are mounted high if your space has one. You'll need something to slope the line. The campground hosts were very nice. Very few OATV channels. 1-2 acceptable Verizon bars.
