Haw Creek Falls Recreation Area About

For those in Arkansas seeking an authentic outdoor experience, far from the hustle and bustle, look no further than Haw Creek Falls Recreation Area. Nestled within the breathtaking beauty of the Ozark National Forest, this beloved campground offers a serene escape where nature takes center stage. Whether you're a seasoned camper, a first-time boondocker, or simply looking for a picturesque spot to enjoy the day, Haw Creek Falls provides an inviting atmosphere to reconnect with the natural wonders of our state.

The allure of Haw Creek Falls lies in its unspoiled beauty and the tranquil sounds of its namesake waterfall. It’s a place that many Arkansans hold dear, offering a classic camping experience without the crowds and commercialism found at larger, more developed sites. From the moment you arrive, you’ll understand why this spot receives such positive feedback from visitors who appreciate its natural charm and peaceful environment.

One of the defining features of Haw Creek Falls is its accessibility and charming, natural setting. Located in Hagarville, Arkansas, with the address Hagarville, AR 72839, USA, this recreation area is situated conveniently within the Ozark National Forest. To reach it, many visitors travel on Highway 123, a scenic route that winds through the forest. It’s approximately 14 miles north of Hagarville or about 12 miles west on Highway 123 from Pelsor, if coming from Russellville via Highway 7.

The entrance to the recreation area features a low-water bridge that crosses Haw Creek. While generally manageable, it's important for visitors to be aware that this area is subject to flash flooding, especially after significant rainfall. This natural phenomenon is part of the wild beauty of the Ozarks, and visitors are encouraged to monitor weather conditions and take necessary precautions. Despite this, the site remains accessible for most vehicles, including camping trailers, though no special facilities are provided for them. The journey itself is part of the adventure, immersing you in the lush, mature hardwood forest that surrounds the campground.

Haw Creek Falls Recreation Area emphasizes a back-to-nature camping experience, and its services reflect this philosophy. It's important to come prepared, as amenities are rustic, contributing to the genuine wilderness feel.

This campsite was so nice. It was our first time boondocking so we were nervous, but we couldn't of picked a better spot to do it. The falls were moving since they had all the April rains.

This is an awesome little free campground. It has about 10 spots and 2 vault toilets. No trash or water so ALWAYS pack it in and pack it out. Gets a little busy during the weekend but during the week is amazing! A couple of smaller trails along the back of sites 6 and 7 I think and the Ozarks Highland trail starts up again across the street from the campground sign. It is a flash flood area so keep that in mind if camping during rainy seasons. Although someone does come through and warns you and also cleans the toilets.

Great, serene location with no cell signal. Don't miss going up to Pam's Grotto. The vault toilets were clean and well supplied. The sheriff came by to tell us the closest location with cell service.
