Customer Reviews
I am rating the equestrian campground only. I will reference the trails in the review, but supplemental to the campground. The equestrian (horse) campground has 25 rustic sites. There are a set of pit toilets in the campground near the center of the loop and another set nearby in the day use area. Be sure to bring your leveling apparatus for most sites if you need to be level for your fridge. Do not trust the DNR reservation system as your source of whether sites are level. Each site has at least 2 picket posts for your high line. No electric. Water is available via a solar pump in the day use area. A good number of trees provide some shade and the campground is surrounded by woods. There is a fire pit and picnic table at each site. You can park anywhere on the site as there are no gravel or cement pads. There are bunkers for your horse manure. The trail system starts right out of camp and is relatively well maintained by the Waterloo Horsemen's Association in conjunction with the DNR. Some of the northern part of the trail was flooded while we were there but was passable and there was a marked detour available. You can ride 12-15 miles of trail in one day without traversing anything but the initial section twice.
