Customer Reviews
FYI - Dry camping = no water, no electric, no dump station. There are dumpsters and pit toilets. Water is still turned off. Get registration sheet at the sign by the red building close to the entrance. It was quiet, though surprisingly busy, which was disappointing. Campsites seemed pretty clean but there were a few that didn't clean up after their dogs. Not cool! The park roads are well maintained and campers were respectful. There isn't much to do unless you have a small boat &/or like to fish. No trails that I could see but not a big deal. I was looking for a bit of peace & this fit the bill pretty well. I hope we will all do our part to keep places like this open. Follow the rules and clean up afterwards. Simple.
Great for boondocking! This is first come first served camping in designated sites for tents and self contained RV’s and trailers. There is NO fresh/potable water available and only two pit toilets. The toilets were nice and clean but i would bring everything you might need as it might be a 10 minute walk or short drive. There is a 2.6 mike hiking trail around the lake but is is overgrown and not maintained with a number of jumbled trees down on the west side. East side would be good for a short walk but not much to see. Fishing seems to be the main pastime here as there are lots of small stocked lakes.
I’m probably being overly critical but hey it’s Ohio. The good! Environment over all the area. Very quiet, and very beautiful. An outdoorsman’s paradise. A plethora of lakes for fishing and kayaking. The night skies are the best I’ve seen in Ohio …hands down! The camping is 100%free . Pit toilets available. Picnic tables at most sites. The bad. It’s still Ohio camping ! To most this probably a matter of personal preference, but I just can’t seem to understand trailer park camping in this state. Some sites are literally piled on top of each other. There a couple that are spread out, but not many. Place gets pretty busy on the weekends. I found glass and trash around 2 of the sites I stayed at. People just don’t pack out or take pride in the area. The dumpster was overflowing with trash everywhere. Eventually an ODNR Guy cleaned it all up. A lot of the people I talked to gave me the impression the waters are overfished. Signs on limits are posted everywhere. The bugs are HORRENDOUS in this area! I mean I know it’s outdoors and camping and I’m no stranger but for the love of Jesus! Pulled 6 ticks off me over the course of 4 days so beware. Your at least 30 to 45 min drive from supplies. McConnelsville to the west is probably your best bet . There are 2 small stores on 78 but found them to be unreliable as far as hours. Signal is non existent . For cell signal go to the Muskie bucket on 78. 3 bars there. Seen people holding sites for others. Not my idea of dispersed camping. There are some hiking trails but seriously over grown. Law was nonexistent. Didn’t see a 1 the whole time I was down there. Pretty desolate area for Ohio. But dispersed camping does not exist here. Has potential, but again it’s Ohio.
True primitive camping. No running water or electric. No cell phone service. Toilets are somewhat close depending on where you camp. Good camping locations, most aren't close to other sites. Good weekend camping.
My dog and I had an amazing time. Mostly just snapped pics of the beautiful views in October. Going to definitely do again.
