Cave Creek Campgrounds About
For Kentuckians seeking that perfect outdoor escape, where natural beauty meets abundant recreational opportunities, Cave Creek Campgrounds at Falls of Rough offers an exceptional destination. Nestled on the scenic shores of Rough River Lake, this campground is much more than just a place to set up camp; it's a gateway to adventure, relaxation, and memorable experiences right here in our beautiful state. Whether you’re an avid angler, a dedicated mountain biker, a water sports enthusiast, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat in nature, Cave Creek has something special to offer. As one happy camper noted, "The hosts went above and beyond to accommodate our last minute camping trip (on Memorial weekend!!). Clean facilities. Most sites are near the water, convenient boat launch on site and and within walking distance." This speaks volumes about the welcoming atmosphere and convenience you can expect.
Cave Creek Campgrounds is renowned for its well-maintained sites and access to a wide array of activities, making it a favorite among local outdoor enthusiasts. The presence of Rough River Lake, a sprawling 5,100-acre body of water, provides a central hub for fishing, boating, and swimming. But the appeal doesn't stop there. The surrounding terrain, characterized by rolling, forested hills and unique geological formations, invites exploration. As another visitor shared, "Nice paved site. We were in the c loop of this small campground. If you mountain bike this is a great location. They have 3 levels of mountain bike trails that are well maintained. Unfortunately, there are no paved bike paths but the area is so rural that we used the backroads to get in a 25 mile ride. The lodge is an easy ride away. There is also another restaurant across from the airport. Be sure to check out the cave! The entrance is small but it opens up inside. The graffiti is a disappointment in the cave but I can’t blame the campground for that." This comprehensive review perfectly captures the blend of active pursuits and natural wonders available, including the exciting (and literal!) cave exploration opportunity that gives the campground its name.

While Cave Creek Campgrounds, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, doesn't typically advertise flashy promotional "deals" in the commercial sense, there are inherent values and ways to make your visit more economical, especially for Kentucky residents.
One of the best "promotions" for frequent campers in Kentucky is utilizing annual passes or loyalty programs if they are available through federal recreation passes like the America the Beautiful – The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass. While Cave Creek is operated by the Army Corps of Engineers, specific discounts may apply to these passes for day-use fees or certain campsite types at federal recreation sites. It's always wise to check the Recreation.gov website for details on pass benefits.
Additionally, booking your campsite well in advance, especially for popular weekends and holidays (like Memorial Weekend, as one reviewer highlighted), can help secure your preferred spot at the standard rate and avoid last-minute scrambling. The campground typically opens for reservations up to six months ahead of time, which can be a key strategy for ensuring your trip.
Furthermore, staying for longer durations can sometimes offer better value per night compared to single-night stays, though specific long-term discounts are generally not advertised. The affordability of camping in general, compared to other lodging options, is a continuous "promotion" in itself. Keep an eye on the official Recreation.gov website or contact the campground directly for any specific seasonal offers or updates on pricing, as these can change.

Cave Creek Campgrounds is an outstanding choice for locals in Kentucky, offering a compelling blend of natural beauty, diverse recreation, and convenient access. Its location on Rough River Lake provides an immediate draw for anyone who loves water activities, from leisurely fishing trips to energetic boating and swimming. The hosts went above and beyond to accommodate our last minute camping trip (on Memorial weekend!!). Clean facilities. Most sites are near the water, convenient boat launch on site and and within walking distance.
We've lived nextdoor to this campground for years, and it's simply lovely. They seem to do routine maintenance and special calls in a timely manner. Everyone with whom I've dealt has been pleasant and helpful. Pretty much everything one could hope for.
It was a great campground, wish I would of known that tents were on other side with grass, we had a site and had to make a lil river so the water could rush down hill we were almost flooded out, lots of pointy rocks for my dog, not really for kids, bathrooms with showers you have a code, you have to press the button on the door. But the timer goes off in 25 minutes so what ever your doing you have to press the button on the door again, very inconvenient specially if ur on toilet or in the middle of a shower, the place to susposly swim you have to look for the lil path that goes down a steep hill, that is FULL OF TICKS... AND PRICKLY BUSHES, POISON IVY, our campsite we broke many metal tent sticks, the ground is super hard "clay" it's a very quiet campground, far from gas stations stores, ITs a dry county so can't buy alcohol, the manager or volunteer lady charlie was a sweet lady!!!! Wish we would of known that ALOT of the campsites were empty when I was told and showed on site that half of the sites were not available!!
Beautiful. Most sites are gravel. The lower loop has paved sites. The water level is currently low.
