For Arkansans who truly cherish the raw, untouched beauty of our state's wilderness, Erbie Campground presents an ideal opportunity to connect with nature on a deeper level. Located within the magnificent Buffalo National River, America's first national river, Erbie offers a primitive camping experience that is highly sought after by those looking to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in the Ozark Mountains. This isn't your average RV park with all the bells and whistles; instead, it's a testament to simple, serene outdoor living, perfectly suited for adventurers and nature lovers from across Arkansas.
Erbie Campground is a destination where the focus is firmly on the natural surroundings. With sites directly adjacent to the iconic Buffalo River, visitors can wake up to the sounds of the flowing water and explore a landscape rich with towering bluffs, lush forests, and abundant wildlife. It’s a place where you can truly unplug, enjoy the quiet peace of the wilderness, and create lasting memories around a campfire under a blanket of stars. For locals, Erbie offers an accessible yet remote feeling getaway, providing a genuine taste of the Arkansas backcountry that few other places can match, complete with unique historical insights.
Erbie Campground is nestled in a beautiful, somewhat remote area within the Buffalo National River, near Harrison, AR 72601, USA. Its precise location is typically accessed by turning onto County Road 79 from Highway 7, approximately 5 miles south of Pruitt or north of Jasper. The drive to Erbie is an adventure in itself, as reviews highlight a "5 mile drive down a gravel road from hwy 7." This road can be "bumpy," and travelers should be prepared for varying conditions. While generally passable for most vehicles, larger RVs or trailers should proceed with caution, especially during or after heavy rainfall when creek crossings might be impacted.
For Arkansans, Erbie's location makes it a true escape. It’s far enough off the beaten path to offer profound peace and quiet, yet still relatively accessible from regional hubs like Harrison or Jasper. This remoteness contributes to the pristine environment and offers incredible stargazing due to minimal light pollution. One key detail from reviews is "Zero cell service" at the campground, which genuinely promotes disconnecting. However, an "Emergency phone at boat launch restroom" provides a crucial safety net. Its direct adjacency to the Buffalo River means immediate access to floating, fishing, and hiking, making it an ideal base for exploring one of Arkansas's most treasured natural landmarks. The journey to Erbie is part of the experience, leading you into the heart of the Ozarks' untouched beauty.

For Arkansans, Erbie Campground offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the pristine wilderness of the Buffalo National River—a true state treasure—in its most authentic form. Its suitability for local residents lies in its ability to deliver a genuine, rustic outdoor adventure that embodies the spirit of Arkansas's natural heritage.
Firstly, Erbie provides a unique chance to completely disconnect from the digital world and urban distractions. The explicit "Zero cell service" environment encourages campers to fully immerse themselves in the sounds, sights, and rhythms of nature. For locals looking for a true "unplugged" escape, this is a significant draw, fostering a deeper connection with family, friends, and the natural environment. The presence of an emergency phone at the boat launch restroom provides a crucial safety net while still maintaining the remote feel.
Secondly, the direct access to the Buffalo National River is a major advantage. Arkansans passionate about floating, fishing, or simply relaxing by the water will find Erbie an ideal base. The opportunity to launch a canoe or kayak directly from the campground, or to simply walk down to the riverbank via one of the trails, makes for an incredibly convenient and enriching experience. The added bonus of historical exploration at the Parker-Hickman Farmstead accessible via a trail offers a unique cultural dimension to the natural adventure.
Finally, despite its primitive nature, Erbie is consistently praised for its well-maintained sites and the presence of flushing toilets (seasonal) and well pumps, providing a comfortable, albeit rustic, camping experience. The scenic drive to the campground, though potentially bumpy, is part of the adventure, guiding you into a secluded haven that feels miles away from everyday life. For Arkansans who appreciate the raw beauty of the Ozarks, are comfortable with primitive camping, and seek a truly immersive wilderness and historical experience, Erbie Campground is a quintessential destination that promises peace, adventure, and unforgettable memories in the heart of our beautiful state. Remember to pack out all trash and respect the "No glass" rule on the river to preserve this amazing place.
Nice place with hikes, fishing, solo, and group camping. Walk-in sites are cool. Flushing toilets and well pumps. 5 mile drive down a gravel road from hwy 7. $20. I was there while the cicadas were unearthing. Zero cell service. Emergency phone at boat launch restroom.
Jun 05, 2024 · Bay DreamerAmazing place. There is an old homestead you can walk through. We camped at Erbie and floated. We walked down two trails. One went to the homestead. The other leads to the river. The homestead trail will also take you to the river. No glass containers on the river, rangers are out and give tickets. there are bathrooms, but there is no running water. Bring your own toilet paper and trash bags. You have to bring all your trash out when you leave.
May 30, 2023 · Erik FreyI have never seen a campground with nicer bathrooms. The whole campground was lovely and well maintained and the area was beautiful. But those bathrooms were a work of art. A flushing toilet (i.e., not a vault toilet), six rolls of toilet paper, an air freshener, lighting, a heater, a sink with a soap dispenser that wasn’t empty. And all very clean to boot. The current camp host obviously cares about her work and does an amazing job. If you’re in the area, I couldn’t recommend this campground more!
Mar 20, 2025 · Maggie BlomfieldWe camped for 2 nights at Erbie after our canoe trip on the Buffalo very nearly mentally broke me. I went into the trip with an injured shoulder and shouldn't have even attempted probably, but by the time we got to Erbie I was quite literally done. I didn't know if I could do another mile on the river, much less another 17. The camp host was an absolute angel. Rachelle came to our rescue in every aspect, by helping us transport our belongings from the canoe riverside to our campsite, brought us a drying rack for laying out our soaked clothes, she even let us have some of her personal firewood and a couple of steaks from her freezer for our dinner the next night. I would most definitely stay here again, in the safety of a tent and admiring the beautiful river from the banks. She was so sweet and the campsite was very clean and maintained. 100 percent positive experience staying there!
May 20, 2025 · Sara DuganGreat place to camp, this was my first time there and I really enjoyed it. Hiked to twin falls and got some real nice photos.
