Its position along the Buffalo River is a significant draw, offering direct access to one of the state’s most cherished natural treasures. The campground is nestled within the beautiful and expansive Ozark National Forest region, providing a truly immersive natural setting.

For those traveling from Harrison, the drive to the campground is manageable, leading you into a more secluded and wild environment. The campground's strategic location also makes it an ideal base for exploring the wider Buffalo River area. Whether you're heading upstream for a float trip, venturing downstream to other river access points, or exploring nearby trailheads, Ozark Campground provides a convenient starting point. Services Offered

Ozark Campground is designed to provide a comfortable and convenient camping experience while retaining the rustic charm of an outdoor setting. The services offered cater to both tent campers and RV users, focusing on essential amenities that enhance your stay:

  • Tent Camping Spots: Dedicated and well-maintained grass spots ideal for tent camping, often including a picnic table and a lantern pole for convenience.
  • RV Spots: Available RV spots are present; however, it is important to note that these spots typically do not include hookups (water, electric, sewer). This makes them suitable for self-contained RVs.
  • Flush Toilets: A significant comfort amenity, the campground provides modern flush toilets, a welcome feature compared to more primitive pit toilets found in some remote campgrounds.
  • Drinking Water: Access to potable running water at designated sites, ensuring campers have a reliable source for hydration and cooking.
  • Sinks and Toilets in Bathrooms: The bathroom facilities are equipped with sinks in addition to toilets, providing convenience for personal hygiene.
  • Camp Host Presence: A helpful and friendly camp host is typically present, available to answer questions, provide assistance, and ensure a smooth camping experience.
  • Park Ranger Presence: Periodic presence of a park ranger, adding to the safety and informational resources available to campers.
  • Self-Pay System: Camping fees are handled via a self-pay envelope system, requiring cash or check for payment.
  • Emergency Phone: For those without personal cell service, an emergency phone is available, providing a critical safety net.

Features / Highlights

Ozark Campground stands out with several key features that enhance the camping experience for visitors:

  • Direct Buffalo River Access: While not explicitly detailed in the review regarding its ease, the campground's location along the Buffalo River implies access to this magnificent waterway, popular for floating, fishing, and scenic beauty.
  • Proximity to Buffalo River Trail (BRT): A major highlight is its function as a departure point for hikers embarking on the Buffalo River Trail, one of Arkansas's premier long-distance hiking trails.
  • Well-Maintained Tent Sites: Tent spots are described as "great," featuring essentials like picnic tables and lantern poles, set on grassy areas for comfort.
  • Clean Restroom Facilities: The presence of flush toilets, sinks, and generally clean bathrooms is a significant convenience and a frequently praised aspect by campers.
  • Friendly and Helpful Staff: The positive mentions of "camp host" and "park ranger" being "helpful" and "nice" contribute to a welcoming and secure environment.
  • Quiet and Peaceful Atmosphere: The campground is typically described as "quiet," offering a serene escape ideal for relaxation and connecting with nature.
  • Cell Service Availability: Unusually for a more remote campground, T-Mobile users reported having cell service, which can be a crucial feature for many modern campers.
  • Emergency Communication: The provision of an emergency phone offers an important safety feature, especially in areas where personal cell service might be unreliable for all carriers.
  • Communal Pavilion: The presence of a pavilion offers a shaded or covered area for groups to gather, eat, or simply relax, regardless of weather conditions.
  • Self-Pay Convenience: The envelope system allows for flexible arrival times, as campers can set up and then complete payment.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a national forest or state park campground, Ozark Campground typically operates on a standardized fee schedule rather than offering frequent promotions or special discounts in the way a private business might. The primary "offer" is the consistent, reasonable pricing for its well-maintained sites and amenities. Unlike commercial RV parks, you generally won't find seasonal discounts or loyalty programs.

However, it is always advisable to check with the managing authority (likely the National Park Service or Arkansas State Parks, depending on its specific designation within the Buffalo River area) for any potential fee changes, senior discounts, or passes that might offer reduced rates for frequent visitors to federal or state recreation areas. For instance, national park passes (like the America the Beautiful Pass) might offer discounts on camping fees at certain federal campgrounds, though confirmation for Ozark Campground would be needed. Since the payment system is self-pay via cash or check, any applicable discounts would need to be accounted for when filling out the payment envelope.

Contact Information

Since Ozark Campground operates as a public recreation area, direct phone numbers for the campground office itself are often not available in the same way they would be for a private business. However, you can typically find contact information for the managing authority, which is usually the National Park Service (NPS) for the Buffalo National River.

While a direct phone number for Ozark Campground isn't provided, you can usually reach out to the Buffalo National River Headquarters for general inquiries about campgrounds, current conditions, or specific questions related to Ozark Campground.

  • Address: Co Rd 129, Harrison, AR 72601, USA

For more detailed information, it's recommended to search for the official website of the Buffalo National River or call their main information line. A quick online search for "Buffalo National River contact" will typically yield the most up-to-date phone numbers and visitor center information, where staff can assist with questions about Ozark Campground.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For Arkansans, Ozark Campground offers an unparalleled opportunity to connect with the state's natural heritage, particularly the beloved Buffalo National River. It's an ideal choice for locals seeking an authentic outdoor experience without straying too far from home. The campground's quiet and serene atmosphere provides the perfect antidote to the stresses of daily life, inviting residents to unplug and immerse themselves in the tranquility of the Ozarks.

The practical amenities, such as flush toilets, running water, and the presence of friendly camp hosts and park rangers, elevate the camping experience beyond mere wilderness survival. This blend of comfort and natural immersion makes it accessible even for those who might be newer to camping or prefer a few modern conveniences. For hikers, the direct access to the Buffalo River Trail is a major draw, offering countless miles of exploration right from their campsite. For those who love water activities, the proximity to the Buffalo River itself means easy access for floating, fishing, or simply enjoying the riverside scenery.

Furthermore, the self-pay system offers flexibility for arrivals, and the reported cell service (for some carriers) provides a reassuring link to the outside world if needed, a rare find in many truly remote campgrounds. Ozark Campground truly embodies the spirit of Arkansas outdoor recreation: rugged beauty with just enough comfort to make it enjoyable for everyone. For any local looking to explore the iconic Buffalo River region, create lasting memories under the stars, or simply find a peaceful retreat, Ozark Campground stands out as a prime and highly suitable destination.

We left from here to hike the BRT. The spots are great for tent camping. Includes a picnic table and lantern pole. Grass. Flush toilets. Drinking water. There are RV spots but I don't think they have hookups. Camp host was helpful and we saw a ranger present the first time we can't through. Self pay in an envelope so cash or check. This campground had cell service for me (T-Mobile). I think there is also an emergency phone if you don't have service. I didn't look at the river access here, so I can't comment on that. There is also a Pavillon.

Road tripping through the Ozarks from Oregon. This was a quick and easy campground to stop at for the night. The bathrooms were well-kept. The camp host was available if needed. My only note is that there is a shooting range close by that went pretty late into the evening.
