The campground is celebrated for its generous lot sizes, with some "pull throughs I’ve ever seen," ensuring ample space and privacy for campers. Owned and built by Jeff Glass over many decades, the park showcases his personal touch, creating a distinctive and welcoming atmosphere. While some facilities like the brewery and bathrooms operate seasonally, the core experience remains consistently strong. As one reviewer enthusiastically noted, "Great location right across the street from a beautiful beach. For the first time we were in an RV park that was truly a nature experience. You did not feel crowded." Whether you're stargazing under the quiet darkness or listening to the "prehistoric" sounds of Sandhill Cranes overhead, Gitche Gumee RV Park and Campground promises a memorable and nature-infused escape for residents of Michigan.
Gitche Gumee RV Park and Campground is ideally situated at 2048 M-28, Marquette, MI 49855, USA. This highly accessible location places it directly on M-28, a major highway in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, ensuring ease of travel for RVs and trailers of all sizes, including 40' rigs. Its most significant locational advantage is its proximity to Lake Superior, being "right across the street from a beautiful beach" and within "walking distance across the highway" for stunning sunsets.
Furthermore, the campground boasts an exceptional connection to outdoor recreation, with "hiking, biking, and 4x4 trails behind the park," and the renowned North Country Trail "parallels the park." This immediate access to extensive trail systems is a major draw for adventure seekers. The campground is also a "short distance to Marquette and Munising," providing convenient access to these vibrant U.P. towns for supplies, dining, and additional attractions like the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore near Munising. This blend of natural beauty, trail access, and proximity to urban centers makes Gitche Gumee RV Park and Campground an incredibly convenient and desirable destination for Michigan locals.
- RV Sites: Offers a variety of RV sites, including exceptionally large "pull throughs" (e.g., sites 47-50) and other spacious lots, providing ample room for rigs of various sizes.
- Hookups: Features electric hookups (assumed from the nature of an RV park) and water hookups, though visitors are advised to consider bringing a full tank of fresh water due to high iron content in the well water.
- Water Quality Advisory: The well water is noted for being "rich with iron," potentially affecting taste, smell, and plumbing. Campers are advised to bring their own fresh water or be prepared with robust filtration systems.
- Restroom Facilities: Bathrooms are available, but their operation is seasonal, typically open only during peak season.
- Brewery Access: A brewery is located on-site, though its operation is also seasonal, aligning with peak camping periods.

As a privately owned RV park with a strong focus on location and a unique nature experience, Gitche Gumee RV Park and Campground may not regularly advertise complex promotions or special offers in the same way larger corporate chains do. Their value proposition primarily stems from their unique features and overall quality of experience.
- Direct Inquiry Recommended: For Michigan locals interested in potential discounts for extended stays, seasonal rates, or any specific packages, it is highly recommended to contact Gitche Gumee RV Park and Campground directly via phone.
- Seasonal Rates: Like many campgrounds in Michigan, particularly in the Upper Peninsula, rates may vary by season (peak summer vs. shoulder seasons like spring and fall). Inquiring about these variations can help optimize your budget.
- Value Through Experience: The consistent positive feedback highlighting "Great location," "truly a nature experience," and "not crowded" suggests that the campground's primary "offer" is the high-quality, nature-infused camping experience itself, which often provides excellent value for money.

Love the location and the lot sizes…47-50 are the largest pull throughs I’ve ever seen! Hiking, biking, and 4x4 trails are behind park. The North Country Trail parallels the park. Lake Superior is within walking distance across the highway with beautiful sunsets. Sandhill Cranes fly by sounding like something prehistoric. The quiet darkness at night makes it a perfect place for stargazing. We were a bit disappointed that the brewery and bathrooms are only open during peak season. Jeff Glass, the owner, has lots to talk about. He built this park over many decades. You can see his personal touches everywhere. If you are not into iron water then bring a full tank of fresh water along because the wells are rich with iron. Short distance to Marquette and Munising.
I will start with the positives. Great location right across the street from a beautiful beach. For the first time we were in an RV park that was truly a nature experience. You did not feel crowded. Staff was friendly and took us to our final location. The property needs some investment. Driving through with our 40' rig we hit a lot of branches. The roadways and rv spots need gravel and a lot of it. The most important issue was the water. If you fill a coffee pot of water from their well it will look like black tea. Bad smell and not good for your plumbing. We had a three stage filter that had the filters replaced a week prior and they did not help much. (They also need to be replaced since being there). I'm not from that area but I can't imagine that water is safe to drink. As I noted earlier the place needs a bit of investment and something to be done about the water.
We unexpectedly came across Gitche Gumee campground, and boy, we are glad we did. This campground has it all… clean showers/toilets, wooded areas, a stunning beach across the street, and even a brewery! The owners and staff were so friendly and helpful, we honestly could not have stumbled across a better place to camp. It was minutes from Marquette, and a short drive to Pictured Rocks. We could not be happier with our stay, and will be back! Channing brewed some super tasty beer that was available at the brewery! So happy with this place. You can tell how much the owners and employees care about their campground. Thank you!!
Do not book a stay here! If you want to sit and reminisce with the owner Jeff that goes fine, but if you have any questions or concerns about your stay forget it. As a business owner he is completely unprofessional and lacks the knowledge to send a simple receipt or email. I needed to change my dates of stay and requested he confirm that I have a credit to be used with the campground. He didn't know how and told me 3 times that he would call me back. I never received a call back. I continued to call daily for 2 weeks without getting through to anyone. They don't even have an answering machine to leave a message on. When he finally answered the phone, when I called from a different phone number, he hung up on me a few sentences into the conversation and didn't answer when I called back. There are no posted prices and Jeff the owner admitted that he doesn't post prices so that he can give whatever quote he wants to people. There was no confirmation of stay and when he offered me a credit because I had to change my stay due to my son's baseball schedule, he had no way to send me confirmation of a credit with the campground. When I was fed up with trying to contact him I asked for a refund and was hung up on. There is nothing on the website that says a patron will be charged at the time of booking. I understand a no refund policy after the point of check in, many companies do that. There were no services rendered so I will continue to work to get my money recovered.
We love this place so much that last year we camped here 2 weekends in a row! And looking forward to our stay again this weekend. This place is like out of a book. Unique and fun!! Very friendly owner (Jeff) and great communication. The communal area is just beautiful. Built by the owner years ago, there is a log cabin where you can enjoy a fresh brewed beer. And just across the street from Lake Superior. Bathrooms and shower in great condition and roomy. I’ve recommended this site the many friends.
