About
For many residents of Wisconsin, the desire to connect with the outdoors and enjoy a peaceful escape leads them to explore various camping opportunities across our beautiful state. Fort Atkinson, located in Jefferson County, offers its own unique charm and access to rural landscapes. Pilgrim's Campground presents itself as one such local option for those seeking a place to set up their RV or tent.
Campgrounds serve a diverse range of needs, from short-term recreational stays to longer-term or even seasonal residency. Pilgrim's Campground, according to public feedback, appears to operate in a dual capacity, catering to both transient campers and what seems to be a more permanent RV park community. This dual nature can offer a different dynamic compared to purely recreational campgrounds, and it's important for prospective visitors to understand this distinction.
This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of Pilgrim's Campground. We will detail its location, discuss the typical services one might expect from such a facility, and highlight features based on available information. Crucially, we will integrate direct feedback from real customers, which, in this case, provides a significant cautionary perspective on communication, customer service, and the overall guest experience. Our goal is to equip Wisconsin residents with all the necessary factual information to make an informed decision about whether Pilgrim's Campground aligns with their expectations for an outdoor stay.
Navigating the options for camping in Wisconsin requires understanding the nuances of each establishment. By providing a transparent account of Pilgrim's Campground, drawing directly from public reviews, we hope to offer valuable insights for anyone considering this Fort Atkinson destination for their next camping adventure.
Pilgrim's Campground is located at W7271 County Rd C, Fort Atkinson, WI 53538, USA. This address places the campground in a rural setting just outside the city of Fort Atkinson, which is situated primarily in Jefferson County, in Southeastern Wisconsin. Fort Atkinson is known for its community events, local businesses, and access to natural areas, including the Rock River.
The campground's position on County Road C suggests a peaceful, countryside environment, characteristic of many Wisconsin camping destinations. County Road C is part of the extensive county road network, which typically provides reasonable accessibility for vehicles and RVs. It would connect to state highways that lead into Fort Atkinson, offering relatively straightforward routes for campers traveling from nearby cities like Janesville, Whitewater, or even Madison and Milwaukee.
While the exact distance to Fort Atkinson's amenities isn't specified, being on a county road implies that local services such as grocery stores, gas stations, and dining options would require a short drive into the city. Public transportation typically does not serve campgrounds in such rural settings, so personal vehicle ownership is essential for travel to and from Pilgrim's Campground and for exploring the surrounding area.
The rural location offers a sense of escape from urban hustle, providing a natural backdrop for camping. However, as one review suggests, the operational aspects within the campground, such as maintenance activities, can sometimes impact the tranquility. For Wisconsin locals, the accessibility via county roads makes it a feasible option for a regional getaway, provided they are prepared for a rural environment and potential operational considerations.
Pilgrim's Campground appears to offer basic services typical of an RV park and campground, though customer reviews highlight significant concerns regarding their execution and communication. Based on the provided feedback, here are the services that Pilgrim's Campground generally offers, along with important caveats:
- RV and Tent Camping Sites: The campground provides sites for recreational vehicles and, presumably, tents. However, specific information about the types of hookups (e.g., water, electric, sewer) is not detailed in the reviews. The need for a surge protector for an RV fan suggests electric hookups are available, but their reliability is questioned.
- Daily and Weekly Rates: The campground offers various booking durations, including daily and weekly rates, with a reviewer inquiring about both. A monthly rate of "$850" was also mentioned for an extended stay.
- Owner/Management Interaction: The reviews suggest direct interaction with the owners, who appear to manage check-ins and address concerns. However, there are significant negative comments regarding customer service: "the woman that answers the phone was very rude and short," and concerning the owner's response to an issue, "Poor customer service, lack of communication, disregard for customer safety, disrespectful attitude and unwillingness to consider customer's needs." Messages left "requesting assistance for a noise disturbance, dust storm creating a health concern and help went unanswered."
- Maintenance: Maintenance, specifically lawn mowing, is performed on-site. However, a review describes it as "disturbing maintenance... creating a dust storm/asthmatic nightmare" during a guest's dinner, indicating potential issues with scheduling and consideration for guests.
- Assistance: While one reviewer was informed that "assistance was only a phone call away," subsequent calls for help went unanswered, suggesting inconsistency in responsiveness.
It is crucial for prospective campers to thoroughly investigate the current state of these services and management's approach to customer care. The reviews indicate a significant discrepancy between what might be expected and the actual experience regarding communication, issue resolution, and general customer consideration. Direct and clear communication with the campground prior to booking, ideally with written confirmation of terms, would be highly advisable.
Based on the provided customer reviews, Pilgrim's Campground exhibits a dual nature, appearing to function as both a campground for transient visitors and a base for full-time RV residents. While specific traditional "amenities" like pools or playgrounds are not mentioned, the reviews highlight certain aspects that define the campground's character.
- Full-Time RV Park Aspect: One reviewer noted, "Campground is appears to be a full time RV park alongside a campground." This suggests that a significant portion of the residents may be long-term, which can create a unique community dynamic distinct from purely recreational campgrounds.
- Rural Setting: The location on County Road C indicates a rural environment, offering a break from urban settings and a connection to the Wisconsin countryside.
- Potential for Long-Term Stays: The mention of a "month rate ($850)" confirms that the campground accommodates extended visits, which can be a highlight for those needing a longer-term base in the area.
However, it is critical to address the significant negative feedback regarding various aspects that would typically be considered highlights in a well-run campground:
- Customer Service & Communication Concerns: This is a major area of concern, with descriptions of staff being "very rude and short," and "Poor customer service, lack of communication, disregard for customer safety, disrespectful attitude and unwillingness to consider customer's needs." Specific incidents, such as the dust storm during dinner caused by mowing and unanswered calls for assistance, directly contradict what would be considered positive highlights.
- Maintenance Scheduling: The issue of disruptive mowing during a guest's meal, resulting in a "dust storm/asthmatic nightmare," is a negative highlight, indicating a lack of consideration for guest comfort and safety during operational activities.
- Power Reliability: A "surge protector detected too much fluctuation in the power whenever I turned my RV fan on" is a critical negative highlight for RV campers, as unstable power can damage electronics and affect comfort, especially when AC is required.
- Reimbursement Issues: The lengthy process and partial reimbursement for an early departure due to power issues ("After a couple of days chasing them on this, he finally sent me $500 via Venmo. It was $850 for the month, but $350 for 4 nights") highlight significant concerns regarding financial fairness and customer resolution.
While Pilgrim's Campground offers a place to stay, the prevalent negative experiences detailed in the reviews overshadow any potential positive features, making it challenging to identify consistently positive highlights from the provided data. Prospective campers must be aware of these reported issues.
Based on the provided customer reviews for Pilgrim's Campground, there is no information available regarding specific "promotions" or "special offers" in the traditional sense, such as discounted rates for a limited time or bundled packages. The pricing structure mentioned directly relates to standard daily, weekly, and monthly rates.
The review specifically mentions:
- Daily Rate: "$40."
- Weekly Rate: Inquired about, but full availability was stated.
- Monthly Rate: "$850 for the month," for which a camper stayed 4 nights and was partially reimbursed.
It's important to note the interaction regarding pricing, where a customer's inquiry about a daily rate after being told the weekly rate was unavailable led to the staff member stating, "I was rude and insinuated 'I was not on the rich end of the stick. WOW. I did not know that 'rich' was a requirement." This comment, while not a "promotion," is a significant piece of customer service feedback regarding the perception of pricing and customer interaction.
As with most campgrounds, the "offer" is primarily the provision of a campsite for a specific duration at a set rate. Any value-added benefits or incentives beyond the basic site rental are not indicated in the provided information.
To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on current rates, availability, and any potential long-term stay options, it is essential to directly contact Pilgrim's Campground. Given the feedback on communication, potential visitors should be prepared to be persistent and ensure they receive clear, confirmed details regarding all pricing and terms before making a reservation. It would also be advisable to ask about any specific policies regarding refunds or issues that might arise during a stay.

It is critically important for anyone attempting to contact Pilgrim's Campground to be aware of the significant concerns raised in the customer reviews regarding communication and customer service. These include:
- "the woman that answers the phone was very rude and short"
- "Messages left requesting assistance for a noise disturbance, dust storm creating a health concern and help went unanswered."
- A lengthy process of "chasing them" to receive a partial reimbursement after an early departure due to park issues.
When attempting to contact Pilgrim's Campground, it is strongly recommended to:
- Be prepared for potentially challenging interactions, as indicated by past customer experiences.
- Call during standard business hours.
- Be clear and concise with your inquiry, ensuring you get all necessary information regarding rates, availability, site details (especially for RV length and power needs), and any specific policies.
- If you leave a voicemail, provide your name, the exact purpose of your call, and a reliable return phone number.
- For any significant commitments, such as extended stays, it may be prudent to request confirmation of terms in writing to avoid misunderstandings, given the past issues with communication and reimbursement.
Given the detailed negative feedback, prospective campers should approach communication with Pilgrim's Campground with caution and a focus on clarity and written confirmation for important details.
Pilgrim's Campground in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, presents a nuanced picture for locals considering a camping or extended RV stay. Its suitability is largely dependent on individual expectations, tolerance for potential issues, and a proactive approach to communication.
From a geographical standpoint, the campground's location on County Road C offers a rural setting in Southeastern Wisconsin, providing a retreat from urban areas. For locals seeking a simpler, countryside escape near Fort Atkinson, this aspect can be appealing. The mention of it appearing to be a "full time RV park alongside a campground" suggests it might offer a stable, long-term option for those seeking a more permanent base for their RV in the area, potentially fostering a sense of community among long-term residents.
However, the extensive negative feedback from real customers cannot be overlooked when assessing its suitability. Concerns regarding rude phone interactions, unaddressed noise disturbances and health concerns from maintenance activities (e.g., "dust storm/asthmatic nightmare"), unreliable power ("too much fluctuation in the power"), and difficulties with reimbursement point to significant issues in customer service and park management. The incident where a customer was told "it was 'too bad' we were there" highlights a problematic attitude towards paying guests.
Therefore, while Pilgrim's Campground may theoretically offer a rural camping spot or an extended RV site in Wisconsin, its suitability for locals comes with substantial caveats. For those who prioritize impeccable customer service, guaranteed quiet enjoyment, reliable utilities, and transparent, fair dealing, the experiences shared in the reviews suggest that this campground may not meet those expectations.
If a local resident is considering Pilgrim's Campground, it is absolutely essential to:
- Directly inquire about the current state of all reported issues (power stability, maintenance scheduling, staff interactions).
- Clearly establish all rates, refund policies, and expectations in writing before committing to a stay, especially for longer durations.
- Be prepared for the possibility of a less-than-ideal customer service experience, as detailed in the reviews.
In essence, Pilgrim's Campground might be suitable for locals who are highly self-sufficient, have very low expectations for customer service, and are prepared to manage potential issues independently, or for those whose primary need is a long-term RV parking spot with a very specific budget. For the majority of Wisconsin campers seeking a peaceful, problem-free, and welcoming outdoor experience, a thorough investigation and careful consideration of the detailed negative feedback are paramount.
Customer Reviews
I did not get a chance to visit, the woman that answers the phone was very rude and short, happy for her having such a busy season, I wanted a week rate, she said she was full till september(23), I asked for a dailey rate, she said "$40." I said "really", she said I was rude and insinuated "I was not on the rich end of the stick. WOW. I did not know that "rich" was a requirement.
Campground is appears to be a full time RV park alongside a campground. Had a negative experience with the owner. While eating dinner and subsequently enjoying time with a visiting friend, we were interrupted by a person who later informed us he was the owner. Without warning, he circled our campsite with his lawn mower. Mowing included the road (rocks) and multiple areas lacking in grass but dirt and creating a dust storm/asthmatic nightmare. So much dust had settled on my phone that I was able to write my name across the screen. Dinner was a bust as dust settled on our food and had to be tossed. My husband politely advised the person mowing of the issue, asking if he was realized he was creating a disturbance. He informed my husband that he was the owner ànd he had to get it done. I was informed by the person that checked us in a few days prior (owner's wife?) that assistance was only a phone call away, I called the number a couple times. Messages left requesting assistance for a noise disturbance, dust storm creating a health concern and help went unanswered. Person mowing/owner later came by to say he was sorry but he had a job to do. He said that 'this little bit of peace and tranquility we were enjoying required maintaining" and that it was "too bad" we were there. Wait. WHAT?? Sorry you have a paying customer? We were not informed that this disturbing maintenance would be performed during our visit. Mowing could easily have been done after our check-out happening the very next morning. Being the only camper in that section would have simplified mowing and avoided a disturbance. Our safety and we'll being was not a consideration. Poor customer service, lack of communication, disregard for customer safety, disrespectful attitude and unwillingness to consider customer's needs is why I am giving this campground a single star rating. Great friendly staff and seasonal campers, meet a lot of great people, had a blast playing “A minute to win it”, very organized and LOVE my prize. Our camp site was very clean and quiet close to port a potty. loved seeing family enjoying themselves. The pool was cool and clean. Only gave it a 4 because the shower stall I first went in did not work.
I love that this is family run. Very friendly people. No strick regulations on when to arrive or leave. Nice big E/W sites.
Looks to be a mainly seasonal Park with ample short term parking and tent sites as well. I have old school high standards for awesome parks and little tolerance for communist nonsense. This is a great park and a great place to spend your time and money. I camp while traveling for work and this is my new go to spot in the Madison area.
