-
Electric Hookup Sites: The majority of sites at Lake Ahquabi State Park Campground are equipped with electric hookups (typically 20, 30, and 50 amp services). This provides essential power for RVs, trailers, and even tent campers who utilize electric devices, ensuring a convenient and powered camping experience.
-
Full Hookup (FHU) Sites: Some sites may offer full hookups, which include water, electric, and sewer connections. While the prevalence of FHU sites varies and should be confirmed upon reservation, their availability caters to campers seeking maximum convenience for longer stays.
-
Paved and Level Sites: Campers can expect sites that are generally paved and level, which significantly eases the process of setting up RVs and trailers. This contributes to a more stable and comfortable camping experience.
-
Picnic Tables and Fire Rings: Each campsite typically includes a picnic table for outdoor dining and a fire ring, allowing campers to enjoy traditional campfires, cook meals, and soak in the ambiance of the outdoors.
-
Restroom Facilities: The campground provides restroom facilities for public use. While reviews suggest that the condition of these bathrooms can vary, they offer basic amenities for campers. It's important to note that showers may not be available or may be limited, so self-contained units are particularly well-suited for this campground.

-
Lake Ahquabi Access: The primary highlight is direct access to Lake Ahquabi itself. This 115-acre lake is perfect for a variety of water activities, including fishing (known for largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, and crappie), boating (electric motors only), and canoeing/kayaking. The lake also features a designated swimming beach, providing a refreshing escape during warmer months.
-
Scenic Hiking Trails: The park boasts several miles of multi-use trails that wind through woodlands and along the lakeshore. These trails are suitable for hiking, walking, and enjoying the natural scenery, offering opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife viewing.

-
"Modern" RV Park Layout: As noted by reviews, the campground is characterized by a "concrete jungle" or RV park layout. This means sites are often close together with paved pads, prioritizing convenience for RV parking over a traditional, secluded "campground" feel. While this might not appeal to all, it is a key feature for those who prefer an RV-focused experience.
-
Youth Group Focus: The specific availability of a dedicated youth group site highlights the park's commitment to accommodating organized youth outings, providing a structured environment for group camping.
-
Proximity to Indianola: The campground's location just outside Indianola provides easy access to the town's amenities, including grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, and other services, ensuring convenience during your stay.
-
Playgrounds: While not explicitly detailed, state parks commonly include playground facilities for children, which can enhance the family-friendly appeal.

Off-Season Rates: Camping fees at Iowa State Parks often vary between the peak season (generally May 1 to September 30) and the off-season (October 1 to April 30). -
Youth Group Site Pricing: The dedicated youth group site will have specific pricing, which may be more economical for large groups than booking multiple individual sites. Contact the park directly for details on booking and pricing for the youth group site.

Customer Reviews
This "campground" is just an RV park. Rename is Aquabi KOA. It's a cross between a really cruddy KOA and a really cruddy campground. Bathrooms are pretty gross for the cost of staying here. It's a concrete jungle. Save your money and get a hotel in Indianola. This is one of the worst campgrounds in the state
Advertised as a campground, but it is an RV park. One camp spot is available only for organised youth groups. Riding bikes in and camping, we had to pay $$$ for an RV hookup spot, which is a shame.
