Wheel House RV Park is conveniently located at 906 S Jefferson Way, Indianola, IA 50125, USA. This address places it within the welcoming community of Indianola, a vibrant city just south of Iowa's capital, Des Moines. The park's location offers excellent accessibility for Iowans, whether they are relocating, on an extended work assignment, or simply seeking a long-term base for their RV.
Indianola itself is a charming city known for its friendly atmosphere, local businesses, and as the home of Simpson College. The park's placement on S Jefferson Way ensures easy access to major roadways, allowing for convenient travel to and from Des Moines, which is approximately a 20-25 minute drive north. This proximity to a larger metropolitan area is a significant advantage for long-term residents, providing access to extensive shopping, dining, entertainment, and healthcare facilities that may not be available in smaller towns.
For those traveling by RV, the park's location on a main thoroughfare simplifies arrival and departure. The surrounding area of Indianola offers essential services such as grocery stores, gas stations, repair shops, and local eateries, ensuring that residents have everything they need within a short drive. This blend of small-town charm with big-city accessibility makes Wheel House RV Park a highly practical and desirable location for extended RV living in Central Iowa.
Wheel House RV Park primarily caters to long-term campers and residents, offering essential services designed to make extended stays comfortable and convenient. While specific details can vary, common offerings at such parks typically include:
-
Full Hookup RV Sites: The park provides sites equipped with full hookups, meaning each site includes connections for water, electricity (typically 20, 30, and 50 amp service), and sewer. This is crucial for long-term RV living, eliminating the need for frequent trips to a dump station and ensuring continuous access to utilities.
-
Flexible Management: Reviews mention "flexible management," which can translate to accommodating various stay durations, potentially offering different rates for weekly, monthly, or seasonal stays. This flexibility is a significant benefit for those whose travel plans or work assignments require non-standard durations.
-
Long-Term Camping Focus: The park is explicitly noted as "Great for long term camping." This indicates that its policies, pricing structures, and community atmosphere are geared towards residents staying for extended periods, fostering a stable environment.
-
Site Features: While specifics on site surfaces aren't detailed, RV parks designed for long-term stays typically offer level pads (often gravel or concrete) that are suitable for prolonged parking of recreational vehicles. Reviews mention "gravel," which is a common and durable surface for RV sites.
-
On-Site Amenities (Varies): Though not explicitly detailed, long-term RV parks often provide basic communal amenities such as a laundry facility. Given the review mentioning "play equipment," it suggests some family-oriented facilities are present.
-
Office Services: While operated by volunteers and not always open, the presence of an office implies administrative support for check-ins, payments, and general inquiries, though campers should plan accordingly for office hours.
Wheel House RV Park stands out for its practical features and community-focused approach, particularly appealing to those seeking long-term RV accommodations in Indianola.
-
Ideal for Long-Term Stays: This is arguably the most significant highlight. The park is specifically designed and managed to facilitate extended occupancy, making it a reliable choice for those needing a semi-permanent base in their RV, whether for work, temporary relocation, or enjoying the Indianola area for an extended period.
-
Affordable Pricing: One review explicitly states, "The price is right." This indicates that Wheel House RV Park offers competitive and economical rates, which is a crucial factor for individuals and families considering long-term RV living as a cost-effective housing solution.
-
Play Equipment: The presence of "play equipment" is a notable feature, especially for families with children. This amenity provides a dedicated space for kids to play and socialize, enhancing the family-friendly aspect of the park.
-
Community Environment: For long-term parks, a sense of community often develops among residents. While not explicitly stated, the long-term focus and flexible management can contribute to a stable and potentially friendly environment among campers.
-
Convenient Location: Its placement in Indianola ensures easy access to local amenities, including grocery stores, dining options, and access to services in the Des Moines metropolitan area, offering the best of both small-town living and urban convenience.
-
Full Hookups for Comfort: The provision of full hookups on sites ensures that residents have continuous access to water, electricity, and sewer services, making daily living in an RV as comfortable and hassle-free as possible.
Given that Wheel House RV Park primarily caters to long-term stays, its "promotions" are more likely to come in the form of flexible pricing structures for extended periods rather than seasonal discounts typically found at short-term recreational campgrounds.
-
Monthly Rates: It's highly probable that Wheel House RV Park offers significantly reduced rates for monthly stays compared to nightly or weekly rates. This is a standard practice for long-term RV parks to incentivize extended commitments and provide cost savings to residents.
-
Weekly Rates: Similarly, weekly rates are likely to be available and more economical than booking individual nights, catering to those who need stays longer than a few days but less than a month.
-
Flexible Booking/Payment Terms: The mention of "flexible management" suggests a willingness to work with residents on payment schedules or specific duration needs, which can be a valuable "offer" for those with unique circumstances.
-
No Explicit Seasonal Discounts: Due to its focus on long-term residency, the park might not advertise traditional seasonal "discounts" (e.g., "fall special") as frequently as vacation-oriented campgrounds. Pricing is more likely to be consistent year-round for extended stays.
It is crucial for prospective residents to directly contact Wheel House RV Park to inquire about their specific pricing tiers for long-term stays (e.g., daily, weekly, monthly rates) and any associated terms or policies. Since management is volunteer-based and not always open, it's best to plan ahead for communication.

Its unique positioning caters directly to the practical needs of residents who utilize their RVs for extended living, temporary housing, or as a base while working or visiting family in Central Iowa.
Firstly, its core strength lies in its explicit focus on "long term camping." For those working in the metro area, the commute is manageable, making it an attractive home base.
Furthermore, the provision of full hookup RV sites is essential for comfortable long-term living. Having direct access to water, electricity, and sewer at each site greatly enhances the quality of life for RV residents, reducing the need for constant maintenance and movement. While the park might have a "gravel" surface, this is common for long-term RV parks and serves its functional purpose well. The presence of play equipment also makes it a viable option for families with children, providing a dedicated space for younger residents.
In conclusion, Wheel House RV Park is a practical and economical solution for Iowans in need of extended RV accommodations. It’s not necessarily a "vacation" park, but rather a community-focused hub for long-term residents, offering essential services and a convenient location. For those who prioritize affordability, full hookups, and a stable base for their RV in Central Iowa, Wheel House RV Park is a highly suitable and beneficial resource for the local community.
Customer Reviews
Great place to live. Flexible management. Only down side is office is ran by volunteers so it's not always open. Great for long term camping. Please excuse the messed up canopy on my camper. It's the best picture I have of this location!!
I really wanted to love this place. The price is right and there is play equipment to boot. however i have 2 boys that are rowdy not gunna lie, but while I was working and a sitter was at my camper with them they had gone to the park to play and the owners threatened me with dhs because I wasn't there with them. They didn't knock on the door to talk with the sitter and instead said they would kick us out and keep our money for the month. Also the gravel makes the camper almost umberably hot.
Was going to camper here so did a drive around to look and it from appearance is kinda junky, plastic butt bucket that seems to be a fire hazards, a junk race car and car that's been pulled apart just sitting out a hazard for kids and a horder looking camper with junk all on the outside. Get what you pay for Ig.
I was checking on prices. They've gone up, but hasn't everything. The phone person was real nice.
Quiet, great neighbors, clean
