Camping offers a unique chance to unwind, de-stress, and create lasting memories. Lake Tom Bailey aims to cater to a range of camping preferences, providing different types of sites to accommodate various needs. While its convenient location is a draw, understanding the specific offerings and potential considerations is key to planning a successful trip. The insights from previous visitors can help set expectations and ensure a more enjoyable experience, whether your goal is a peaceful fishing trip, a quick overnight stop, or a traditional camping excursion.
Lake Tom Bailey is conveniently situated at 3222 Northshore Dr, Toomsuba, MS 39364, USA. Toomsuba is a community in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, placing the campground within easy reach of Meridian, a larger city offering a wider array of amenities and services. This strategic location provides a balance between the serene natural environment of a campground and the accessibility to urban conveniences.
The campground's proximity to major transportation routes, particularly a freeway, makes it highly accessible for travelers. While this convenience means easy arrivals and departures, it also implies that freeway noise might be audible from some campsites, as noted by a reviewer. Despite this, the convenience of the location for those passing through or looking for a quick escape cannot be overstated. Meridian, just a short drive away, offers extensive options for groceries, dining, fuel, and emergency services, ensuring that campers have everything they need within reach.
For those traveling within Mississippi or through the Southeast, Lake Tom Bailey serves as an excellent stopover point. Its location in eastern Mississippi also provides a gateway to exploring other regional attractions, including historical sites, state parks, and other natural landscapes. The immediate area around Toomsuba, while rural, contributes to the charm of a true outdoor escape, allowing campers to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse themselves in a more natural setting. The lake itself is the central feature, providing opportunities for water-based recreation right on site.
Lake Tom Bailey aims to provide essential services to ensure a comfortable camping experience for its guests. Based on available information, the campground offers:
- Primitive Camping: For those who prefer a more rustic experience, primitive camping sites are available. These typically offer a spot to pitch a tent without utility hookups, emphasizing a back-to-nature feel.
- Camping with Power: For RVers and tent campers who desire more convenience, sites with power hookups are provided. This is crucial for operating electrical appliances, charging devices, and ensuring a more comfortable stay.
- Fishing Access: The lake is apparently a "good lake for fishing," offering a primary recreational activity for visitors. Guests can register to fish on the lake, implying a structured and managed fishing environment.
- Boating Access: Similar to fishing, visitors can register to boat on Lake Tom Bailey, providing opportunities for water sports, leisurely cruises, or reaching prime fishing spots.
- Rest Area Facilities: The campground is also described as a "good little rest area," suggesting basic facilities for transient visitors. However, specific information regarding the quality and reliability of these facilities, particularly restrooms, should be noted from customer feedback.
- Trails (Potential): The mention of "some trails also if you wish" indicates that there might be walking or hiking opportunities within or near the campground, catering to those who enjoy exploring on foot.
It is important to address the specific feedback regarding restrooms. One review noted that upon arrival, the women's restroom was unlocked but later locked, and the men's restroom was "seriously too gross." This highlights a potential area for improvement in facility maintenance, especially for tent campers who rely more heavily on communal restrooms. Prospective campers, particularly those planning to tent camp, should be aware of this feedback and potentially plan accordingly.
Lake Tom Bailey offers several features that make it an attractive option for campers in Mississippi:
- Versatile Camping Options: The availability of both primitive tent camping and sites with power hookups caters to a wide range of preferences and equipment, from minimalist tenters to those in larger RVs.
- Excellent Fishing Opportunities: The lake's reputation as a good fishing spot is a major draw for anglers, providing a primary recreational activity directly on site.
- Boating Access: The ability to register for boating adds another layer of outdoor recreation, appealing to those who enjoy spending time on the water.
- Convenient Location: Its easy access from the freeway makes it an ideal stopover for travelers and a quick escape for locals seeking a short trip.
- Natural Setting: Despite the proximity to the freeway, the campground offers a natural lakeside environment for relaxation and outdoor enjoyment.
The existing customer feedback highlights that while the location is convenient, noise from the freeway can be an issue. Additionally, the condition and accessibility of the restrooms may be a concern for some, particularly tent campers. The sentiment that it's "OK for RV camping but tent camping discouraged" due to restroom conditions is a crucial point for potential visitors. However, the positive remarks about fishing and the overall utility as a rest area underscore its strengths.

Customer Reviews
Well, the location is convenient but you can hear the freeway from any site. Also, when I arrived and got a vehicle tag for camping overnight, the Women’s restroom was unlocked and I chose my site accordingly (I’m of a certain age)..Lo and behold, after I set up camp, the restroom was locked. Undeterred, I tried the mens.. it seriously was too gross. Bottom line: OK for RV camping but tent camping discouraged. Apparently a good lake for fishing though.
Good little rest area and some trails also if you wish to you can register to fish or boat on the lake. Campgrounds have both primitive camping and camping with power
Fantastic! Had the campground and lake t ourselves!
Nice, clean, flat campsite. Plenty of sites were available.
// 3.2025 update. The prices have gone up a bit, but I guess that's to be expected. Although the park ranger keeps the restroom clean, it still needs renovation. It's still one of my favorite overnight stops on my route. // Great little park. Very well groomed. The restroom could use some funding. It was clean, but needs renovation. The campsite was level and clean. Full rate for an electric site was $22, but the guy working there said $15 since I am senior.
