Picture Lake Campground About
For Virginians seeking outdoor adventures, a convenient stop on their travels, or a base to explore local attractions, campgrounds offer a versatile and engaging option. In the Petersburg area of the Commonwealth, Picture Lake Campground presents itself as a notable choice. This article aims to provide a clear, factual, and informative overview of Picture Lake Campground, helping local users in Virginia understand its offerings and determine if it's the right fit for their next outdoor getaway or convenient overnight stay.
Campgrounds today cater to a diverse range of needs, from providing simple tent sites to accommodating large RVs with full hookups. They often serve as gateways to regional attractions, natural landscapes, and offer a sense of community among fellow travelers and outdoor enthusiasts. In a state like Virginia, known for its rich history, diverse geography, and abundance of recreational opportunities, having well-located and equipped campgrounds is essential for both locals and visitors. Picture Lake Campground, as highlighted by customer reviews, offers several distinct advantages, particularly for those interested in specific local activities or simply needing a comfortable spot to rest.
Customer reviews offer valuable insights into the actual experience at Picture Lake Campground. One reviewer notes, "Nice lake and campground. Pool wasn't terrible. My only recommendation for the pool is maybe it should be net cleaned more often. I only went in once, but what kept me from going back in was that there was a bit of hair floating in the pool. Quite a few strands and a few noticeable clumps floating around. That grossed me out a bit. Outside of that the pool would have been ok." This review points to the appealing presence of both a lake and a pool, which are significant amenities for a campground, especially during warmer months. However, it also highlights a specific concern regarding pool cleanliness, suggesting an area for potential improvement in maintenance.
Another review provides a broader perspective: "Nice roomy spot for an overnight stay in a good location. The Park itself appears to have MANY full timers who are not concerned with aesthetics; a litter control plan NEEDS to be implemented. I imagine it’s a popular spot for those interested in the very close Va motorsports arena; also for the public access lake and pool, which were closed due to season. Overall, a pleasant stay for two nights." This feedback confirms the spaciousness of sites, suitable for quick overnight stays, and emphasizes the strategic location, particularly its proximity to the Virginia Motorsports Park. It also notes the presence of "many full timers," which can influence the park's atmosphere and appearance, leading to a recommendation for better "litter control." The mention that the "public access lake and pool" were closed seasonally is also a crucial detail for planning visits, as these amenities enhance the experience significantly during their operational months.
Collectively, these reviews suggest that Picture Lake Campground offers strong locational advantages and appealing amenities like a lake and pool, making it attractive for specific purposes or short-term stays. However, prospective visitors should also consider the reported aspects concerning general aesthetics and pool cleanliness, and factor in the seasonal availability of certain features. Understanding these points helps in setting realistic expectations and planning a visit that aligns with individual preferences for a camping experience in Virginia.

Nice lake and campground. Pool wasn't terrible. My only recommendation for the pool is maybe it should be net cleaned more often. That grossed me out a bit. Outside of that the pool would have been ok.
Nice roomy spot for an overnight stay in a good location. The Park itself appears to have MANY full timers who are not concerned with aesthetics; a litter control plan NEEDS to be implemented. We have been full-time rv'ers for 10 years. We stayed for a week at Picture Lake Campground. Our suggestion is that you check to see if any events are scheduled for the drag racing strip across the lake. It can be loud and monotonous during races. The bathrooms were in need of a deep cleaning. Just like other reviewers noticed, litter around park when we arrived was still there when we left. A large number of full time residents led to an unusual amount of traffic. Finally, we noticed that like us, other Class A owners discovered that a level coach meant back tires were suspended in the air. We didn't hate it, but we won't be back.
What a great place for racing fans. Race track close by, there's also the scenic lake with good fishing, had a friend who caught 3 bass. Allot of camp sites have a fire pit. Staff here are very helpful and pleasant.
I have camped for years and in many, many different places. I have camped in extremely nice places, and just ok places. BUT THIS PLACE.... ATROCIOUS!!!! We drove fromTn . to visit our friends, the bath houses at this place were filthy, the showers were old and terribly stained, I thought the shower handles were going to fall off the wall when i tried to turn the water on. The one time I did use them, I had to clean it before I used it, I had to clean cigarette butts off the soap shelves and from the drain. There were no hooks to hang your towels or bath bag on. There was NO privacy, It was so bad that my husband and I packed our bags and went to my friends house to use their shower. The site we were on was only 2 foot from the road and directly in front of our camper was a huge speed bump so that all vehicles had to practically stop for it, most of the campers were permanent, and they were VERY unkept. The grassy area was only big enough to sit 3 or 4 chairs. the picnic table was practically falling apart. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO POSITIVE THING I CAN SAY ABOUT THIS CAMPGROUND! We visited another campground down the road aways, Camptown Campground. we'll try that one next time,
