For those of us in Texas, especially in the bustling Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, finding a natural escape that feels miles away but is incredibly close to home is a true treasure. Meadowmere Campgrounds in Grapevine offers exactly that: a serene and spacious camping experience right on the southwestern shores of beautiful Lake Grapevine. This isn't just a place to pitch a tent; it's a gateway to outdoor adventure, family fun, and peaceful relaxation, all within a short drive from major DFW cities.
We understand that choosing a campground involves balancing natural beauty with convenience and comfort. Meadowmere Campgrounds consistently earns praise for its well-maintained grounds, thoughtful amenities, and prime location. Whether you’re looking to immerse yourself in nature with primitive tent camping, enjoy a day at the beach, or engage in exciting water sports, Meadowmere Campgrounds provides a welcoming and accessible environment that's perfect for Texans seeking a memorable outdoor experience without venturing too far from home. It's a testament to how easily you can find tranquility even "in the heart of DFW."
Meadowmere Campgrounds is located at Park Rd 4, Grapevine, TX 76051, USA, within the larger Meadowmere Park. This location is one of its strongest assets, especially for residents of the DFW Metroplex. Grapevine is a thriving city known for its vibrant downtown, Grapevine Mills Mall, and, of course, the expansive Lake Grapevine. Being situated directly on the lake shores means campers have immediate access to all the water-based activities and scenic views that Grapevine Lake offers.
The park's accessibility is a significant convenience. It's easily reachable via major roadways, making the drive stress-free from Dallas, Fort Worth, or surrounding suburbs. As one reviewer noted, it's "less than 30 minutes from home" for many in the DFW area, highlighting its practicality for quick getaways. This prime location means you can transition from city life to lakeside tranquility in a remarkably short amount of time, allowing you to maximize your time enjoying the outdoors. The park is managed by the City of Grapevine, ensuring a well-maintained and regulated environment for all visitors.
Meadowmere Campgrounds focuses on providing the core services and facilities needed for a comfortable primitive camping experience, with some added benefits from its park setting.
-
Primitive Tent Camping Sites: The campground primarily offers primitive tent camping sites. These sites allow for a "back to nature style" experience, as they do not include hookups for water or electricity directly at the tent sites. Each site typically allows for six people and two tents to be set up.
-
Clean and Spacious Restrooms with Showers: A notable convenience highlighted by campers are the "clean and spacious bathrooms near my campsite." The availability of showers is a significant plus for primitive camping, ensuring campers can refresh themselves. While one reviewer mentioned a child having difficulty flushing a toilet, the overall impression of cleanliness is positive. These facilities are often heated during chilly mornings, enhancing comfort.
-
Covered Picnic Tables: Every campsite, including those with shade structures, comes with a picnic table, often shaded by an awning. This provides a designated and comfortable area for outdoor meals and relaxation, protecting campers from the Texas sun.
-
Fire Rings and Barbeque Grills: Each campsite is equipped with a fire ring for campfires and a barbeque grill, perfect for cooking outdoors and enjoying classic camping traditions.
-
Pet-Friendly: Meadowmere Campgrounds welcomes pets, allowing you to bring your furry friends along for your outdoor adventures.
-
Kayaks and Paddleboard Rentals: While not a direct campground service, DFW Surf operates out of Meadowmere Park, offering convenient kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals, allowing campers to easily get out on Lake Grapevine.
Meadowmere Campgrounds and the surrounding Meadowmere Park offer a wealth of features and highlights that make it a fantastic destination for outdoor enthusiasts and families.
-
Lake Grapevine Access: Situated directly on Lake Grapevine, the park provides access to sparkling water, sandy beaches, and numerous water-based activities like swimming in a roped-off swim zone (one of only two on the lake), boating (with a boat ramp available), and fishing.
-
WhoaZone Floating Aqua Park: Located within Meadowmere Park, the WhoaZone is Texas's largest floating aqua park obstacle course. This enormous inflatable playground offers hours of active entertainment and is a huge draw, especially during the warmer months, providing a unique way to cool off and have fun on the water.
-
Children's Playground: A large, colorful children's playground area is available, ensuring that younger campers have a dedicated space for play and fun.
-
Hiking and Nature Trails: The park features "massive amounts of open space for hiking and exploring." While some turn-offs might not lead anywhere significant, there are designated nature trails, including some through heavily wooded areas, perfect for walks and bird watching.
-
Well-Groomed Campsites: Campers praise the "well-groomed and soft" grass near campsites, contributing to a comfortable night's sleep even without an air mattress. The sites are generally described as "very nice."
-
Beautiful Views: Despite some areas having fewer trees, the park offers "beautiful views" of Lake Grapevine, especially from shoreline sites.
-
Shade Structures: Some tent sites specifically offer shade structures over the picnic tables, providing extra relief from the Texas sun.
-
Special Events Park: Meadowmere Park is designated as the City of Grapevine's Special Event Park, often hosting races and other large events on the lake, including summer fireworks shows, which can be an added bonus for campers.
-
Migratory Bird Viewing: The natural shoreline environment is excellent for observing migratory birds, appealing to nature lovers and birdwatchers.

Customer Reviews
Clean and spacious bathrooms near my campsite. 🏕️ Although, my 4 y.o. wasn't strong enough to flush the toilet. 😅 The hike was longer than I expected due to multiple turn offs that don't really lead anywhere but some that do. The grass near my campsite was well groomed and soft enough to get a good night sleep. Didn't need an air mattress. The awning created a nice amount of shade over the picnic table. I was very satisfied with the camp grounds; especially considering it is in the heart of DFW and less than 30 minutes from home.
If you want to have fun and enjoy yourself DO NOT come here! Staff is is rude, they find every way possible to ruin your day, I will not be coming back.
Beautiful primitive camping on the lake.
Made reservations and needed to cancel so I called and cancelled within all the guidelines and time requirements. I received confirmation of cancellation but I never received a refund. I called back a month later asking about refund and they said they applied it as a credit for future stays. That is not a "refund" fyi, they were able to initiate an actual refund after charging cancellation fees and taking their cut. Wasn't a great experience.
We camped here in a tent. Had an ant infestation despite no food in our tent. Moved our tent, no luck, and got bitten to hell as we slept . Ants all over the ground, recommend bringing an ant spray to go around tent parameter and ointment to treat ant bites (they are very sore & itchy) Swimming in the lake highly recommended !! Staff very helpful too. Downsides : port a loo for campers. You have to drive a few minutes to have a shower. Only 2 showers available (1 for the ladies, 1 for the men) - there are rubbing water toilets there too … but it’s too far to walk. Book online. It’s easy and a nice little vacation in Dallas by the lake.
