Introduction / Overview
For South Dakota travelers, whether crossing the state on the essential I-90 corridor or simply looking for an affordable base to explore the Mitchell area, R & R Campground and RV Park offers a practical and conveniently located solution. Situated right on the edge of Mitchell, this campground is primarily known for its excellent accessibility, making it a highly useful stop for those who prioritize ease of access and functional amenities. It caters specifically to the needs of the RV community, providing a range of pull-through and back-in sites designed to simplify the setup and departure process.
R & R Campground is characterized by a no-frills, value-focused approach to camping. While some of its recreational features may be evolving, the core utility of the park—reliable hookups, a convenient location, and essential facilities—remains strong. It serves as a great hub for exploring Mitchell’s local attractions, including the World’s Only Corn Palace, local restaurants, and major retailers like Walmart and Cabela’s, which are all within a short distance. This balance of function and location appeals directly to South Dakotans who appreciate a straightforward, efficient camping experience without unnecessary complications. It is an honest, dependable spot that understands the needs of a traveler on a schedule.
The park offers a variety of site types across its 44 camper sites, with a significant portion dedicated to easy-access pull-through spots. Its operation often runs in close association with the nearby Super 8 motel, which can sometimes provide shared amenities and easy, combined management access for check-in. The most compelling factor for many local users remains the great location combined with a competitive price point, ensuring it remains an acceptable and frequent choice for a night or two while traversing the state.
Location and Accessibility
The location of R & R Campground and RV Park is arguably its strongest feature, providing effortless access for those traveling along Interstate 90. The official address is 1700 S Burr St, Mitchell, SD 57301, USA.
The park is incredibly easy to find, situated just off I-90 at Exit 332. This "EZ off - EZ on" convenience is a major logistical advantage for RVers and truck drivers seeking a quick overnight rest. The location on South Burr Street places it near commercial activity, meaning essential services like gas, food, and major retail stores are just minutes away—a huge benefit for travelers needing to resupply. Access to the campground is typically made by turning at the first right after the exit, with the entrance often shared with or located directly behind the adjacent Super 8 motel. While some users note the signage could be clearer, the general proximity to the highway and local amenities is perfect for a transient or short-term stay.
Crucially, despite its proximity to the interstate and an occasional train passing by, many guests report that the highway noise is surprisingly minimal, especially with windows closed, ensuring a relatively peaceful night. This prime, accessible location makes it a highly practical base for quick excursions into Mitchell or simply getting an early start on the road the next day toward Sioux Falls or the Black Hills.

Conclusion: Why This Place Is Suitable for Locals
R & R Campground and RV Park holds a valuable place for South Dakota locals, primarily for its functional practicality and economical pricing. For residents traversing their own state, often on their way to the western attractions like the Badlands or the Black Hills, this campground offers a necessary and affordable break. It perfectly serves the need for a 'no-hassle' overnight stop where a large RV can easily pull in, hook up, and get back on the road early the next day. The convenience of being located so close to the I-90 exit and essential shopping areas allows locals to maximize their travel time and minimize detours.
While some facilities are noted to be basic, South Dakotans value the core services: a full hookup to ensure their RV is ready for the next leg of the journey, and a secure, easy-access location. Furthermore, the Good Sam discount provides a recurring value proposition for local RV owners. It’s a realistic, budget-conscious choice for a regional base camp, acknowledging that for many, a campground is simply a functional launchpad. R & R Campground is a practical, well-located option that aligns with the sensible, value-oriented approach to travel often favored by residents of South Dakota.

All I can say that's positive about this rundown campground is that it had pull-through sites and an easy-to-find location. That's all I can say. Looked for Good Sam campgrounds in our Campground book, saw this one that advertised a pool..none, cable...nope, you have to set up an account and rent a "box" with $100 refundable deposit but it was too late for us, playground..a couple swings, showers, laundry...nope, neither one...Definitely would NOT stay here again.
Sep 07, 2025 · Marilyn and Ben BuehlerWe have stayed here before, but the place is going down hill, still in the acceptable range. Restrooms need a lot of work, no exhaust fan. Done was wide open this morning. We will stay again, maybe, price is right, but we may use our own showers
Jul 24, 2025 · T. KeefeWe were traveling the holiday weekend, and our other campsite reservation fell through. We were scrambling to find a place to stay, and despite the late hour, the owner was responsive and got us squared away. We were so thankful that we were able to find a spot at the last minute.
Aug 31, 2025 · Ashleigh RogersIf you’re going to swim, there’s no longer an outdoor swimming pool as shown in pictures. You have to go into the super eight hotel to swim. And their swimming pool had glass in the bottom of the pool is coming up. And if you already rented or booked a spot, know that you cannot get a refund when concerns are brought to maintenance. Would not stay here barely checked in 15 minutes and they would not refund! It’s 104°. All my kids wanted was to go swimming. Due to how unhelpful staff was, I would not stay here.
Jun 21, 2025 · Kathleen ZerilliFirst, the water pipe burst while I was hooking up. Like a fire hose, the water engulfed the whole side of my RV. The 50A CB box stated throwing sparks, flames and smoke. It was loud and scary. I got the water off and disconnected the cord from the trailer. The RV park blamed it on my cable. The water wasn’t the issue. I went for a bike ride to relax. When I returned they had fixed the pipe and hooked up my hose. They turned the water on and left when it didn’t leak. Of course, when the hose is connected to the black tank it doesn’t create back pressure or show leaks, but it will fill you rv with black water flowing up through the toilet. They lied about to me. What should I expect from people that blame plumbing issues on customer electrical cords? Not much.
