When we arrived at Tamworth we were greeted by Anna Maria when we checked in. She shared with us how herself and husband recently took over the property. This is the first time we’ve stayed at Tamworth Camping Area. Upon arrival we were given a run down on everything we needed to know. Anna Maria was SO kind and welcoming. She shared with us that they’re in the process of a series of maintenance. One bathhouse is not renovated just yet, but will be soon. The other bath house with showers just finished being renovated the day we got there. They were very nice and worth the longer walk from our campsite. We are tent campers and booked space 26 on the river. We really enjoyed our site. It was quiet, away from any seasonal campers. Our neighbors were very quiet and respectful. There were lots of kids who mostly played by the playground. It was just my husband and I and our dog and it was very peaceful. Exactly what we were looking for. Overall we’d return back and appreciate seeing the work being put into the grounds to maintain a nice place to stay.
Sep 02, 2025 · Alex and Lindsey KentOne of our favorite places to camp! Site's are large and well maintained. Newly renovated bathrooms/showers were a bonus since there aren't septic hookups on any of the river sites. Everything was so clean and prices were very reasonable for camping in that area. New management is doing a great job restoring this campground to its former glory!
Sep 08, 2025 · Molly PelletierAnna Maria is a passive aggressive piece of work! I will use today as an example of many of our interactions this year. As a seasonal member, we have a gate key and we forgot it this week at home. Anna Maria this morning, made a point of letting us know that she was in the office early by coming out and getting a board and bringing it into the office. we then went to the gate and waited to be let in only to be left waiting because it was 15 minutes before the office opened. She clearly wanted us to know that she was there and that we would wait. This is one example of many that we have seen this year. Including speaking, derogatory of campers checking in for a short stay in front of us, arriving early, and being told that they would wait until the exact time that the campsite check-in time was. Leaving people in the parking lot when the campsites were clearly open. The campground has been empty most of the year. She regularly calls the police for nonexistent issues. There are constantly police on the Campground, which is not very relaxing. She uses a sickly sweet voice to your face, to the point of being nauseatingly fake about it , but is very nasty, truly a horrible human being. She is a control freak who in every way lets you know that she will be in control of things to the point of making people extremely uncomfortable. She has actually stated to campers that if people don’t like the way she does things they don’t have to come. And that she does not want them there. The camp is in a state of disrepair, including the bathrooms and the children’s playground, however, I can see this year that they have tried to make some improvements. The campground itself is lovely. It is a shame that we will not be coming back because of absolutely ignorant conduct, lack of professionalism, passive aggressive behavior by the people running the place. It has potential, but not when people like this will make people uncomfortable at every turn. What should’ve been a great first experience for seasonal camping has turned into feeling like you’re walking on eggshells the whole time that you are here.
Sep 20, 2025 · Sharon DoucetteWe stayed with 2 other families during the weekday so it wasn't crowded and stayed right on the river. Perfect for the kids! They are currently building a new bathroom so we missed that boat, but the ones we used were decent. The downfall is there was a family of crows that woke us up every morning around 5am. Bring ear plugs! The few people we met that worked there were nice. There's a sand volleyball court, a playground, and the kids rode bikes. Also down the street from White Lake... and Dollar General if you forget anything. It's likely we'll return.
Aug 22, 2025 · Sara$78.50 a night for a waterfront site? You've got to be out of your mind. I just paid $46.00 a night same amenities with waterfront, and a much larger and private site, at a campground on the other-side of the mountain. And that was after their price increase! The last time I stayed here it was the first year after Modern America Campgrounds bought it from the Bonica family. They have since shamed their name an their campground that they spent decades building. Since the mid 80's I had been coming here with my parents and continued to do so until a year ago. The site we stayed at (31) was washed away and too rocky to even walk on let alone set up a tent. The new owners couldn't have been bothered to put new sand down, that site was always maintained by the previous owners. There was also a kid using a leaf blower at all hours of the morning, disrupting anyone in a 100 yd radius of the campsite. You should use a rake like everyone else does. I sent an email expressing my distaste with the changes and how the site was practically unlivable, no one cared to even respond. Its a god damn shame that this big company gobbles up perfectly good campgrounds all over New England and turns them into just money making machines and you all fall for it.
