Visitors consistently praise Timber Creek South Campground for its tranquil atmosphere and stunning natural beauty. One reviewer enthusiastically noted, "Beautiful view. Very clean, quiet, eagles are visible. It's just absolutely gorgeous." This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the essence of the campground – a place where you can unwind amidst breathtaking scenery and observe incredible wildlife. Another camper shared a positive experience, saying, "Went camping here last week. Really good spot. Nice sized cats here too," suggesting good fishing for catfish, which is a popular pursuit on Milford Lake. The combination of cleanliness, quietude, and abundant natural attractions makes Timber Creek South Campground a highly recommended destination for any Kansan looking to reconnect with the outdoors.
Timber Creek South Campground is located at an Unnamed Road, Clay Center, KS 67432, USA. This places it directly on Milford Lake, Kansas's largest man-made lake, which boasts a surface area of 15,700 acres and an impressive 163 miles of shoreline. The campground is nestled on the southern side of the lake, providing campers with beautiful sunsets and a sense of remoteness while still being conveniently accessible.
Getting to Timber Creek South Campground is straightforward for most Kansas residents. If you're traveling via I-70, you'll take exit 295, then head north on Highway 77 for approximately 18 miles. From there, take Highway 82 West for about 2 miles, and the Timber Creek park entrance will be located on the south side of the road. The roads leading to the campground are generally well-maintained, accommodating various vehicle types, including RVs and trailers. Its proximity to Clay Center (which is quite close to the unnamed road address), and nearby Junction City and Milford, means that essential services and supplies are never too far away, offering a good balance of seclusion and convenience. This accessibility makes it a prime candidate for a weekend trip from cities like Manhattan, Topeka, or even Wichita, providing a genuine escape without an overly long drive.
As a campground operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Milford Lake, Timber Creek South Campground typically follows a standard fee structure rather than offering frequent promotional discounts like private campgrounds. The fees for primitive campsites are usually a flat nightly rate. However, visitors who hold certain federal recreation passes, such as the America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass (which includes the Senior Pass and Access Pass), may be eligible for discounts on camping fees. It is always recommended to contact the Milford Lake Project Office or check the official Recreation.gov website for the most current fee information, potential discounts, and any specific policies regarding reservations or first-come, first-served availability. While there may not be seasonal "specials" in the commercial sense, the value offered by the scenic location and amenities at its standard rate is often considered a great deal by campers.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding Timber Creek South Campground, including current operating conditions, site availability, and any changes in regulations, it is best to contact the Milford Lake Project Office, which manages the campground. They are the primary resource for visitor inquiries.

May 09, 2024 · Darrell MarksNot the greatest campground in the world, but it is pretty quiet. There doesn't appear to be any showers but there are two pit toilets. As a whole it feels rather derelict. I visited in October 2020 though so its lack of patrons may have to do with the weather and COVID.
Oct 18, 2020 · Adam WallenfangNice campground but no power and since it was so hot, we moved on. Nice primitive campground, great for shoulder seasons or to rough it.
Jun 18, 2023 · Jean RichardsWould love it if we could have stayed whole time...but sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate 😫
