Promotions or Special Offers

Walter E. Stark Assembly Area and Horse Campground, being a state forest campground managed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), typically operates under a standard fee structure rather than offering frequent, publicly advertised promotions or discounts like private commercial campgrounds. Fees are generally consistent and set by the DNR for state forest campgrounds.

However, for Minnesotans planning a visit, it's always beneficial to be aware of the following, which can indirectly offer "value" or special access:

  • Minnesota State Park and Trail Passes: While camping fees are separate, access to state parks and often state forest facilities like trailheads typically requires a Minnesota State Parks and Trails vehicle permit. Purchasing an annual pass can offer cost savings if you frequently visit state parks and forests.
  • Horse Trail Pass: Equestrians aged 16 or older are required to have a valid horse trail pass to ride, lead, or drive a horse on state forest trails. These passes contribute to the maintenance of the trails and equestrian facilities, ensuring the quality of your riding experience.
  • Off-Peak Season: While not a promotion, camping during the shoulder seasons (spring and fall) or weekdays can often mean fewer crowds and a more peaceful experience, effectively maximizing the value of your stay by offering more solitude.
  • Volunteer Opportunities: Sometimes, state parks and forests offer volunteer opportunities that can lead to benefits, though not typically direct monetary discounts on camping.

For the most accurate and current information on fees, permit requirements, and any operational details, visitors should always consult the official Minnesota DNR website or contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers.

Very fun forest, lots of ticks do bring bug spray and make sure your dogs are on medication for it. Had a blast camping here. Nice lakes all over, nearby towns are fun, secluded enough that you don't run into too many people unless you want to. Please pick up all your trash when you are finished camping. The spot we found must have been popular because there was quite a bit of trash we needed to clean up before setting up. I'm no tree hugger but pick up your cans and bottles

We got a great spot! Beautiful scenery. Unfortunately our neighbor next door who came later in the day was a grumpy old lady who thought we needed to go to bed at 9pm! Seriously!!! We weren't loud but we did stay up and enjoyed our camping experience. She had the audacity to pound on our camper the next morning thinks ng she was waking us up, we were already awake. Don't know who she thought appointed her the go to bed committee, but it just made her look bad and the people she was with. Karma will visit her!! I just wish your camp site was bigger, expand for pete's sake! Maybe make one side for these grumpy ole ladies who want to go to bed with the chickens😂 but seriously have one side for these folks and the other side for people who want to enjoy camping. Please you need to expand, it's way too small in there.
