Backwoods Farm Campground is wonderfully situated at 134 Joe Dugger Ln, Butler, TN 37640, USA. This address places it squarely in the charming and naturally abundant area of Butler, a community in Johnson County in the extreme northeastern part of Tennessee. This region is famous for its picturesque mountain landscapes, proximity to national forests, and pristine waterways, making it a prime location for outdoor enthusiasts.
For Tennessee locals, reaching Backwoods Farm Campground involves a scenic drive into the heart of the Appalachian Mountains:
From Johnson City: The campground is approximately a 45-minute to 1-hour drive southeast, offering a convenient and relatively quick escape for residents of the Tri-Cities region.
From Knoxville: It’s roughly a 2 to 2.5-hour drive east, making it an excellent option for a weekend or longer trip for those in East Tennessee's larger urban areas.
From Chattanooga: The drive is about 3.5 to 4 hours northeast, a manageable journey for a more extended vacation into the mountains.
From Nashville: While a longer journey at approximately 4.5 to 5 hours east, the unique experience offered by Backwoods Farm Campground makes it a worthy destination for a major family adventure or special retreat from Middle Tennessee.
The location in Butler also places it near significant natural attractions, including the Cherokee National Forest, Watauga Lake, and numerous hiking trails and waterfalls. While providing a secluded, "backwoods" feel, its accessibility ensures that guests can easily transition from urban life to a tranquil natural setting. The journey itself becomes part of the experience, showcasing the diverse and beautiful landscapes of Tennessee.
Backwoods Farm Campground distinguishes itself with a range of services that elevate the traditional camping experience, leaning towards a more personalized and luxurious approach, as highlighted by satisfied customers.
Gourmet Food Service: A standout feature, described by one reviewer as "camping with a whole team of gourmet chefs and butlers." This implies high-quality, unexpected culinary offerings that might include prepared meals, special dining experiences, or exceptional campfire cuisine.
Accommodating Staff/Owners: Guests consistently praise the staff and owners for being "fun and accommodating" and feeling "like family you want to have on vacation," indicating a high level of personalized service and warmth.
Spacious Campsites: The campground provides ample space for setting up large tents, even those designed for 10 people with a porch, ensuring privacy and comfort. This suggests well-thought-out, uncrowded sites.
True Woodsy Environment: Emphasizes an authentic, natural camping experience away from crowded park settings, allowing for a deep immersion in the wilderness.
Cleanliness and Meeting Expectations: As a "newly established" campground, it meets "all expectations," implying well-maintained facilities and a fresh, clean environment.
While a detailed list of every amenity (like bathhouses, hookups, etc.) is not explicitly provided in the reviews, the "gourmet chef and butlers" analogy strongly suggests that essential comforts are either readily available or seamlessly integrated into the unique service model. Prospective campers should inquire directly for a full list of specific amenities such as restrooms, showers, and utility hookups if needed for RVs or specific tent setups.
Backwoods Farm Campground's highlights extend beyond just a place to sleep; they encompass an entire elevated outdoor experience.
Exceptional Culinary Experience: This is arguably the top highlight. The food "really blew away," noting it was better than many restaurant meals. This is a game-changer for camping, transforming meal times into a gourmet event.
Unparalleled Hospitality: The owners are described as "like family you want to have on vacation" and the staff as "fun and accommodating." This level of personal care and friendliness creates a welcoming and memorable atmosphere that makes guests "can't wait to come back."
Breathtaking Night Sky: The remote, "woodsy" location away from light pollution offers "absolutely breathtaking" views of the night sky and stars. This is a significant draw for stargazers and those seeking profound natural beauty.
Spacious and Private Sites: The generous "so much space" provided at each campsite, even for large tents, allows for a truly private and uncrowded camping experience, which is increasingly rare.
Beautiful Views: The "beautiful" views and overall aesthetic of the property contribute significantly to the serene and enjoyable atmosphere.
True Woodsy Memory: The campground delivers on the promise of a "true woodsy memory" and "true camping experience," emphasizing authenticity and immersion in nature rather than a crowded park feel.
Newly Established Quality: Being "newly established" means modern facilities and a fresh approach to camping, meeting contemporary expectations for comfort and service.
Ideal for All Campers: Whether you're a seasoned camper or new to the experience, the unique services and accommodating staff ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay for everyone.
Given that Backwoods Farm Campground appears to be a unique, potentially boutique camping experience that emphasizes personalized service and gourmet offerings, it may not frequently advertise traditional "promotions" in the same vein as larger, more commercial campgrounds. Their value proposition seems to be built on the quality of the experience rather than discounted rates.
However, it is always advisable for prospective campers to contact them directly to inquire about:
Seasonal Rates: Pricing might vary depending on the time of year, with different rates for peak season (e.g., fall foliage, summer) versus off-peak periods.
Group Packages: For families or friends planning to visit together, they might offer custom packages or rates for larger groups.
Special Event Stays: If they host unique culinary events or themed camping weekends, these might come with specific pricing or inclusions.
Repeat Visitor Incentives: Given the strong desire of guests to return, they might have loyalty programs or special offers for repeat customers.
The best way to understand their pricing structure and any available special arrangements would be to call Backwoods Farm Campground directly and discuss your specific needs and desired dates. Their reputation for accommodation suggests they would be transparent and helpful in providing all necessary information.

Me and my family are no strangers to camping, but this experience was something truly unique. It felt like camping with a whole team of gourmet chefs and butlers taking care of everything you needed. The place is beautiful, the staff is so fun and accommodating, we can't wait to come back next year. The best part was the food, I really blew me away. I've haven't had food that good in a restaurant in a long time, let alone at a campground!
Nov 07, 2021 · Jake SWHAT AN EXPERIENCE!! One the best camping experiences I’ve ever had!!! Newly established and met all expectations! The owners are like family you want to have on vacation! The view was beautiful! There was so much space. We had a large 10 person tent w/porch and still had so much space. Plenty of sitting room. Our favorite was the night sky, those stars, absolutely breathtaking. In awe of this place and look forward to visiting here often and recommend to everyone for a true camping experience. Not a crowded park, a true woodsy memory! ❤️
