For Ohioans, Beaver Creek State Park Equestrian Campground represents an exceptional and highly suitable destination, particularly for those deeply involved in the equestrian community or seeking a truly immersive, primitive outdoor experience. Its unique focus on horseback riding, combined with the natural beauty of eastern Ohio, makes it a standout choice for a variety of reasons.
Firstly, for the countless horse owners and riders across Ohio, this campground is a dedicated haven. The direct access to over 23 miles of diverse bridle trails is a massive advantage, offering endless opportunities for riding and exploration without the need to trailer horses long distances to access suitable terrain. The provision of tie-ups at each primitive site directly caters to the practical needs of equestrian campers, streamlining the camping experience for both horse and rider. This specialized setup means that Ohio's equestrian enthusiasts have a reliable and well-equipped place to enjoy their passion.
Beyond the equestrian focus, the campground’s primitive nature appeals to a broader segment of Ohioans who appreciate a more rustic and authentic camping experience. In an increasingly connected world, the opportunity to disconnect and immerse oneself in nature, away from the amenities of modern life, is a cherished escape. With vault latrines and potable water, the campground provides basic necessities while encouraging a back-to-basics approach to outdoor recreation. This is particularly appealing to those who grew up camping in Ohio's state parks and appreciate the traditional feel.
Moreover, the surrounding Beaver Creek State Park offers a wealth of activities that extend beyond horseback riding. With excellent hiking trails, fishing opportunities in Little Beaver Creek, and historical sites like Gaston's Mill and Pioneer Village, there’s something for every member of the family or group. This multi-faceted appeal means that even if not everyone in your party is an equestrian, the park still provides ample opportunities for enjoyment and exploration, making it a versatile destination for Ohio families and friends.
Finally, as an Ohio State Park facility, the campground benefits from consistent management and the commitment to preserving Ohio's natural resources. While some past reviews mention challenges with unofficial site reservations by groups, it's crucial to rely on official Ohio DNR policies, which state that all sites at the Equestrian Camp must be reserved online. This formal reservation system ensures fair access for all Ohio residents and helps maintain the integrity of the "first come, first serve" experience in designated areas, or the proper reservation process for others. By offering an affordable, specialized, and naturally rich environment, Beaver Creek State Park Equestrian Campground is perfectly suited for Ohio locals looking for an authentic and memorable outdoor adventure with or without their equine companions.

This camp states it’s first come first serve. We pulled in traveling through and there was not ONE trailer on the premises but several women were running around putting tags on all the sites and “reserving” them. I stated the park is first come first serve. They said they were getting ready for a weekend ride. The weekend was three days away. They were phenomenally rude. As we tried to back into a spot (illegally being held/reserved) another trailer came in and the woman grabbed two horses out and ran behind us to tie them up in the site we were going to use. Seriously! They suggested we leave and go to another camp as we weren’t part of their group and were not welcome there. These nasty people are apparently part of the Ohio horseman’s group who actually do NoT own the facility but seem to think they do. Even the park office had reiterated to us that it was first come first serve and only a handful of sites could be reserved and that wasn’t where we planned to stay. I would sure like to have someone with the park go and collect fees from all of these people that should be PAYING for these sites from the time they stuck their tags on them and keeping paying guests from using the park. If you go here you sure don’t need to expect any southern hospitality because it’s non existent. The worst extra two hours driving out of our way that I’ve ever spent.
