Big Cove Campground is equipped with several key services to enhance the camping experience, particularly for tent campers and those seeking a more rustic yet comfortable stay. Here's what you can expect:

  • Large Tent Pads: The campsites feature spacious tent pads, offering ample room for setting up tents comfortably and providing a dedicated, relatively level area for your sleeping arrangements. These pads are available right next to vehicle parking for convenience.

  • Clean and Well-Maintained Restrooms: Visitors consistently praise the cleanliness and upkeep of the restroom facilities, which are described as large and modern. This is a significant comfort for campers.

  • Showers with Hot Water: The bathhouse includes showers with free hot water, allowing campers to refresh themselves after a day of hiking or exploring.

  • Outside Dishwashing Station: A practical outdoor dishwashing station with a handheld sprayer and a wooden countertop is available, making meal cleanup convenient and hygienic.

  • Individual Site Amenities: Each campsite typically includes a picnic table, a fire ring with a grill, and a lantern hanger, providing the basic necessities for outdoor living and cooking.

  • Potable Water: Potable water is available at the campground, ensuring access to fresh drinking water.

  • Community Book House: A unique and delightful amenity, the campground features a "Book House" — a small, free library where campers can borrow and exchange books, adding a cozy and intellectual touch to the outdoor experience.

It's important to note that Big Cove is considered "rustic camping" in that it does not offer water, sewer, or electrical hookups at individual campsites, and there is no dump station. This makes it ideal for tent campers and those with self-contained RVs or vans.

Big Cove Campground offers several features and highlights that contribute to its appeal as a cherished camping destination in Tennessee:

    • Extensive Hiking Trails: Over 50 miles of backpacking and day-hiking trails lead to waterfalls, streams, and scenic vistas, including the summit of Frozen Head Mountain.

    • Flat Fork Creek: The creek runs adjacent to the campground, offering opportunities for exploration and play, particularly for children.

    • Wildlife Viewing: The dense forests provide ample opportunities for observing local wildlife.

  • Rustic Yet Convenient: While Big Cove is designed for more primitive camping (no hookups at sites), the availability of clean showers with hot water, modern restrooms, and an outdoor dishwashing station provides crucial comforts that elevate the experience beyond typical primitive camping.

  • Quiet Nights: Due to its small size (20 sites) and the absence of RVs with generators, the campground tends to be very quiet at night, ensuring a peaceful sleep under the stars, even during busy seasons.

  • Spacious and Well-Separated Sites: The individual campsites are generally large and offer good separation from neighbors, providing a sense of privacy. Group sites are also available for larger gatherings.

  • Popularity and Demand: Its "popular" status indicates a high level of satisfaction among campers, making it a sought-after destination for those in the know.

Great campground for family camping. We took my daughter for her first overnight camping experience and it was great. The tent pads are large and available right next to the vehicle. The restrooms are clean and well maintained - there are even showers available as well as an outside dishwashing station. We only stayed a single night just to see if my daughter enjoyed it, but I’m sure we’ll be back many times in the future. No complaints at all about the stay - great campground, not too out of the way, and excellent amenities for families with kids.

Beautiful camping area with a centrally located bath house. Everything was well maintained and the bathrooms were very clean, much better than I expected for a state park. There were also plenty of trash bins so you didn't have to walk far. Campsites all have tables, fire rings, and grills. We really enjoyed our visit.
