Introduction / Overview
For residents across Nebraska seeking a premier outdoor escape, the Burbach Campground at the Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area (SRA) stands out as an exceptional choice. Nestled on the south side of the majestic Lewis and Clark Lake, a vast reservoir formed by the Missouri River and the second-largest lake in the state, Burbach provides a perfect blend of modern convenience and natural beauty. This area is celebrated for its stunning vistas, superb water recreation, and a variety of lodging options tailored for every type of visitor—from RV enthusiasts to families looking for a cozy cabin retreat. It’s more than just a place to pitch a tent; it’s a full-service recreation hub where annual traditions are made.
The campground’s popularity is rooted in its family-friendly atmosphere and the sheer number of activities available, as evidenced by local feedback: “We stay here yearly with family... Plenty of room for the family to play games and run around and fish. Big enough beach for us to swim in. Camping spots for grandparents to bring their camper. Just a great time!” The combination of excellent facilities, including full-service sites and comfortable cabins, alongside access to Lewis and Clark Lake makes Burbach a cornerstone of Nebraska’s outdoor recreation scene.
Location and Accessibility
Burbach Campground is conveniently situated approximately 7 miles north of the small town of Crofton, Nebraska. The area is easily accessed via Nebraska Highway 121, making it a straightforward drive for visitors coming from various parts of the state. It is part of the larger Weigand-Burbach section of the Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area, which hugs the Nebraska/South Dakota border. The proximity to the lake, which stretches about 16 miles long and 3 miles wide, means guests are never far from the water's edge.
The physical address is in Crofton, NE, a location that offers both a sense of tranquil isolation and the necessary convenience of nearby services. The location within the SRA is well-mapped, with asphalt camping pads and clear signage leading to the various recreational zones. The area is designed for easy vehicular access, accommodating campers with large RVs (up to 50 ft max length in some sites) as well as those simply driving to a cabin or day-use area. Accessibility is further enhanced by the proximity to the Weigand Marina (seasonal operation), which is the park headquarters and a central point for supplies and lake activities, though visitors should note that the park office and main facilities are generally located within the combined Weigand-Burbach area.

It truly is a local gem for Nebraska’s outdoor enthusiasts.
We stay here yearly with family. We take multiple cabins in a row. Other than being buggy most years everything is great. Plenty of room for the family to play games and run around and fish. Big enough beach for us to swim in. Camping spots for grandparents to bring their camper. Just a great time!
Jul 05, 2024 · Mike Sommer iiiThe cabins were nicer than expected. I will definitely be back and stay in the cabins. They also had plenty of extra blankets in case you got cold but the heater worked well in the cabins so we didn't need it.
Nov 22, 2023 · Ben KittrellWe have stayed in the Burbach cabins multiple times now and they are always clean and maintained. They are right off the water and have great views. This is a great place to stay for a relaxing weekend.
Nov 05, 2022 · Amanda WaskelWell maintained, heavily wooded RV campground. Sites are reasonably spaced, asphalt pads with 30/20 amp service, no water. There may be sites with 50a and water/sewer too, but majority do not. There are also some very nice spacious cabins on site that sit right along the shoreline looking right at the water. There are tent sites as well. Camper sites are back a bit further from the water in well shaded locations, an easy walk the waters edge. This campground is inside of a NE state park, so an entry fee is required. Day passes or an annual pass are your options. NE residents pay $6 for a day pass or $8 for non-residents. Annual pass for non-resident is $45. There is a marina and boat dock, ice, dump stations, etc. The roads getting here are bumpy as h**l so take them slow. There are several good restaurants nearby. I recommend CJ's at the Lake and Murdo's.
