Introduction / Overview
As the primary hub and headquarters for the Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area (SRA), Weigand Campground offers Nebraskans a truly exceptional and full-featured outdoor experience. Situated on the scenic southern shoreline of Lewis and Clark Lake, this popular destination seamlessly blends the rugged beauty of the Missouri River reservoir with modern camping conveniences. Lewis and Clark Lake, the state’s second-largest lake, is known for its incredible size—stretching approximately 16 miles long—and its phenomenal recreational opportunities, from high-speed boating to tranquil fishing.
Weigand is celebrated for its year-round accessibility, diverse range of campsite options, and its function as the central point for park operations and amenities. It’s where RV travelers can find convenient full hookup sites and where tent campers can find large, clean sites with stunning views of the Missouri River bluffs. As one pleased local traveler noted, the area is super relaxing and offers plenty of space: “Our site (site 5) is very large, and located on a small Bluff above the Missouri river.” Whether you are seeking a vibrant summer vacation spot or a quiet, off-season retreat, Weigand Campground provides a high-quality, memorable escape close to home.
Location and Accessibility
Weigand Campground is strategically located within the Lewis and Clark SRA complex, approximately seven miles north of the town of Crofton, NE, via Nebraska Highway 121. Its location is arguably the most desirable in the SRA, as it serves as the Park Headquarters and is directly adjacent to the Weigand Marina (seasonal operation), making it the most accessible spot for boaters and those needing supplies or information. The campground’s setting is picturesque, with many sites situated right on the edge of the water or on small bluffs overlooking the lake.
Accessibility for all types of camping is a key focus. The campground offers paved or gravel pads for RVs, accommodating vehicles up to 50 feet in length, and it provides ample space for slide-outs. For those planning a visit, a Nebraska park entry permit is required for all vehicles, which can be purchased either online or upon arrival. Furthermore, the area is well-connected in the modern sense; one customer specifically mentioned having excellent cell service: “I have 4 bars of 5G cell service at my camp site. A WIFI hot spot is available at the camp office as well,” ensuring that visitors can stay connected even while unplugging in nature.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For Nebraska residents, Weigand Campground represents a valuable, accessible, and high-amenity resource that caters to nearly every style of outdoor enjoyment. As the park headquarters, it offers a sense of security and reliability, with staff and resources on-site year-round. The campground's suitability for locals is found in its flexibility: whether you are a dedicated RV camper needing a Full Hookup site, a family looking for easy access to the marina and playground, or a tent camper seeking a secluded bluff view, Weigand has a designated spot for you.
The ability to enjoy the area across all seasons—benefitting from off-season rates and electrical hookups during the quieter, more solitary months—adds significant value, making it a viable retreat beyond the typical summer rush. The combination of modern necessities (clean facilities, connectivity, and full-service hookups) with incredible recreational features like boating, fishing, and disc golf means Nebraskans don't have to travel far to find a world-class vacation spot. Weigand is a community hub that supports local traditions and provides a beautiful, reliable connection to the majestic Lewis and Clark Lake and the historic Missouri River.
Stayed here last weekend, and we hit the jackpot on our site - it was gorgeous! (1st morning was crisp and clear - 2nd morning was smokey from the Canadian wild fires). Super relaxing campground.
Jun 03, 2025 · Alana ReinfeldWe are staying at a basic tent camping site. There is available to us a pit toilet. Water is still shut down for the season. Luckily, they do offer off-season rates. A Nebraska park permit is required for your vehicle. Picnic table and fire ring are also here for us. We are the only ones here in the entire park (mid-March 2025). Grounds are clean. Our site (site 5) is very large, and located on a small Bluff above the Missouri river. Walking paths, frisbee golf, playgrounds, fishing, and boating are all available. I have 4 bars of 5G cell service at my camp site. A WIFI hot spot is available at the camp office as well.
Mar 13, 2025 · Bibs OutdoorsReally nice campground. They have walk up spots and reserved. Great view of the river. Our spot was 50 amp and plenty of shade. Fill station for water when you come in.
Aug 28, 2025 · Kim FrilouxIt is one of the most beautiful parks in Nebraska on the Missouri River. I love spending a few weeks every year in the fall: breathtaking views, great hiking areas, and plenty to do and see.
Oct 12, 2023 · Rob JohnsonGood: Very quiet park. Enjoyed seeing the Canadian Geese and deer. Bad: Had to pay $90 for 2 vehicle permits besides the camping fee. No water and sewer hookup at site, had to feed the public shower quarters. The dirty shower room had 1 hook for clothes and towel. Bathroom had cobwebs (black spiders) and leaking toilet, floor was slippery. Public notice the beach tested positive for ecoli. Park roads and road to Weigand are pathetic!
