Welcome to High Cliff State Park Campground, an exceptional outdoor destination nestled in Sherwood, Wisconsin. For Wisconsin locals yearning for an immersive natural experience coupled with convenient amenities, this campground offers a unique opportunity to connect with the state's remarkable landscapes and rich history. As the only state-owned recreational area on Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin's largest inland lake, High Cliff State Park provides unparalleled access to water activities, breathtaking views, and diverse terrestrial adventures.
High Cliff State Park is named for the dramatic limestone cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment, which parallel the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago and offer spectacular panoramic views. This natural wonder provides a stunning backdrop for a range of outdoor pursuits. The campground itself is set amidst abundant trees, offering spacious sites that allow for a sense of privacy and connection to nature. Whether you're looking to spend a day exploring miles of trails, enjoying updated facilities, or simply unwinding in a picturesque setting, High Cliff State Park Campground is designed to cater to a variety of outdoor enthusiasts.
The park is well-maintained and clean, reflecting the dedication to preserving its natural beauty for all visitors. While navigating certain loops with larger RVs might require a bit of extra care due to tighter turns, the overall camping experience is highly rewarding. It’s a place where you can truly immerse yourself in Wisconsin's natural heritage, from ancient Effigy mounds to modern recreational amenities, making it a perfect escape for families, couples, and solo adventurers alike.
High Cliff State Park Campground is conveniently located at N7630 State Park Rd, Sherwood, WI 54169, USA. This prime location places it in Calumet County, on the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago, making it easily accessible for Wisconsin residents from various parts of the state. Sherwood, a small village, offers a quiet gateway to this expansive natural area, ensuring a serene start to your outdoor adventure.
The park’s position directly on Lake Winnebago is a significant draw, providing unparalleled access to boating, fishing, and swimming opportunities on Wisconsin's largest inland lake. Beyond the immediate natural attractions, High Cliff State Park is also within a reasonable driving distance of larger cities in the Fox Cities metropolitan area, including Appleton, Oshkosh, Neenah, Menasha, and Kaukauna. From the park's observation tower, you can even see the skylines of these vibrant cities, highlighting its blend of natural beauty and urban proximity.
While the park itself offers an escape into nature, its accessibility means that essential services, supplies, and additional attractions are never too far away. This balance allows campers to enjoy the tranquility of the wilderness without sacrificing the convenience of nearby communities. The clear directions to the park, typically via well-maintained state roads, ensure a smooth journey for all visitors, whether arriving for a day trip or an extended camping stay.
As a Wisconsin State Park, High Cliff State Park Campground's "promotions" primarily revolve around the consistent value offered through its state park system, rather than seasonal discounts on camping fees. The primary "offer" is the exceptional access to diverse natural beauty, extensive recreational opportunities, and well-maintained facilities at state-regulated rates. While camping fees vary based on residency, campsite type (electric vs. non-electric), and season, the cost is generally considered affordable for access to such a comprehensive natural area.
A key aspect of using Wisconsin State Parks is the required vehicle admission sticker. For Wisconsin residents, an annual sticker offers significant savings if you plan to visit state parks frequently throughout the year, effectively serving as a long-term "promotion" for consistent park users. There are also specific exemptions or reduced rates for senior citizens. While there isn't a direct "buy one night, get one free" type of offer, the Wisconsin DNR often hosts "Free Fishing Weekends" or "State Park Open House" events that waive certain fees, encouraging more locals to experience the parks. It's always best to check the Wisconsin DNR website for the latest fee structures and any system-wide initiatives or specific park events that might provide added value. The park also offers accessible opportunities, including an accessible fishing platform at Butterfly Pond and an accessible cabin, which, while not a discount, offers tailored access for those with specific needs.
For reservations, general inquiries, or specific questions about High Cliff State Park Campground, the park office is the best point of contact. You can reach them through the following details:
For campsite reservations, it's recommended to use the Wisconsin DNR's online reservation system, which allows booking up to 11 months in advance. Direct calls to the park office are best for specific questions not covered online or for real-time assistance.

Come here often! Tons of trails and beautiful scenery! Playground for kids, updated bathrooms. Great for spending a day in the outdoor. Picnic area scattered around the park. Good spots for fishing with the kids! Cool cliffs to walk next to!
Apr 26, 2025 · Andrew BakerPark is pretty and clean. Lots of trees. Sites are spacious. The turn to get down some loops are tight and not as big rig friendly (specifically to turn for sites 71-86). Hiking/bike trail was on back side of our site and was a nice walk. Park staff was not very helpful while checking in. Did not ask if we had ever been there before, not told where to go or given map. Also if you use a tow vehicle to pull your trailer/rv then they charge you extra upon arrival that is not included in your camping fee (which I personally feel is stupid).
May 26, 2022 · Jesska86Spaces are good size. Trails all around. Lots of tall trees and great shade. Loads of little black squirrels running around. Park rangers drive around a few times an hour it seems like. Camped here because they claim the woods are haunted. Didn't hear any ghosts just people yelling at midnight.
