For Wisconsinites seeking a camping experience that combines outdoor relaxation with convenient amenities and a lively social hub, White Clay Lake Lodge in Cecil, WI, offers a distinctive appeal. This unique establishment functions as both a campground and a popular bar and grill, creating a dynamic environment where campers can unwind by the lake and enjoy good food and company. Situated on the shores of White Clay Lake, it presents an appealing option for those looking for more than just a traditional campsite, blending the tranquility of nature with the comforts of a friendly local establishment.
Camping in Wisconsin is a diverse pursuit, ranging from remote wilderness adventures to amenity-rich resort stays. White Clay Lake Lodge positions itself as a comfortable middle ground, providing essential camping facilities alongside the added benefit of an on-site bar and grill. This fusion caters particularly well to families and groups who appreciate having food, drinks, and a social gathering spot readily available after a day of outdoor activities. The "friendly family who owns and runs the establishment" is a consistent highlight in reviews, indicating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that contributes significantly to the overall positive experience.
Reviews for White Clay Lake Lodge offer a balanced perspective, underscoring both its strengths and areas for consideration. The "Good burger" and the "Bar is nice with a great view. Friendly family who owns and runs the establishment. Good drinks and food" are strong endorsements for the hospitality aspect of the Lodge. This suggests that visitors can count on quality food and a pleasant social environment, making it a place where campers can easily relax and enjoy their evenings without needing to leave the premises.
However, it's also important for prospective campers to note the feedback regarding the campground itself: "Campground isn’t anything special. Bring a boat and things for you to do or for the kids to do." This implies that while the Lodge and its immediate offerings are strong, the campsites might be more functional than elaborate. It highlights the importance of campers bringing their own recreational equipment, particularly for water activities on White Clay Lake, to maximize their enjoyment. The comment about the lake's fishing ("Lake used to have great fishing but now there’s so much runoff from the farm that it’s nothing but algae") is a critical piece of information for avid anglers, suggesting current challenges with water quality that could impact fishing experiences. Despite this, White Clay Lake is still described as a "primarily a fishing lake" populated by various species, so it remains a potential fishing destination for some, perhaps with adjusted expectations.
Overall, White Clay Lake Lodge appears to be a destination that excels in its hospitality and convenient amenities, offering a welcoming atmosphere and a pleasant place to socialize. For Wisconsinites who prioritize a friendly environment and easy access to food and drinks, while being prepared to bring their own entertainment or manage expectations regarding lake conditions, it can be a "pretty good" choice for a camping getaway.
White Clay Lake Lodge is located at N5685 Lodge Rd, Cecil, WI 54111, USA. This address places the establishment directly on the shores of White Clay Lake in the town of Cecil, within Shawano County, Wisconsin. Cecil is a small, quiet community, offering a peaceful setting that contrasts with the hustle and bustle of larger urban areas, making it an ideal escape for those seeking tranquility.
The primary advantage of this location is its immediate access to White Clay Lake, a 235-acre spring-fed lake that is primarily a fishing lake and approximately 45 feet at its deepest. There is a nominal launch fee of $5.00 per day, or a Town of Washington seasonal permit can be purchased for $30.00 per year.
For Wisconsinites traveling to the lodge, Cecil is situated in a relatively accessible part of the state. It's approximately 32 miles northwest of Green Bay, which is a major city offering a wider range of services, shopping, and entertainment. This proximity means campers can easily resupply or explore urban attractions during their stay. Driving routes to Cecil generally involve state highways that lead to smaller county roads, which are typically well-maintained, ensuring a smooth journey for vehicles and RVs.

The fact that the lake and the Lodge are "both within walking distance of all campsites" further enhances the convenience for guests, allowing for easy transitions between their camp, the water, and the social hub of the bar and grill.
In summary, White Clay Lake Lodge's location offers a desirable combination of a quiet lakeside retreat with reasonable accessibility to nearby urban centers, making it a convenient and attractive choice for local Wisconsin campers.

Aug 18, 2019 · Bee YangWe recently went to the White Clay Lake Lodge for lunch. My wife had a delicious half pound hamburger and I had the pork sandwich which is not on the menu. The pork sandwich was fried just perfectly with lettuce and tomato. We shared an order of fries which were hot and crisp. The one order was plenty for the two of us. The bar/restaurant has been newly remodeled and has a log/northwoods look. We sat near the windows and had a beautiful view of the lake. Well worth going out of your way!
