Magnolia Ridge About
For Texans seeking a serene, budget-friendly, and amenity-rich camping experience in the heart of the East Texas Pineywoods, Magnolia Ridge Campground stands out as a highly recommended destination. Located at 1376 Magnolia St, Woodville, TX 75979, this campground offers a delightful blend of spacious sites, natural beauty, and convenient features, making it ideal for RVers of all sizes, tent campers, and families looking to create lasting memories by the water. It’s a place where the sounds of nature provide the backdrop to a truly relaxing escape, without breaking the bank.
Texas offers a diverse array of camping opportunities, from rugged wilderness to full-service resorts. Magnolia Ridge Campground, with its connection to the B.A. Steinhagen Lake (often referred to as Dam B), carves out a special niche by combining affordability with access to excellent recreational opportunities. The presence of covered concrete picnic tables and spacious sites, even for large RVs, speaks to a design focused on camper comfort and convenience. The consistent praise for "friendly hosts" also highlights a welcoming atmosphere, which is a crucial element for a pleasant camping experience.
Customer reviews paint a vivid picture of what to expect. Many visitors appreciate the "great place to camp," noting the accommodating size of the sites – "Very large site with covered concrete picnic table. Plenty of room for our 36 ft 5th wheel and larger RVs would do fine." The affordability is a recurring theme, with a 50-amp site with water hookups costing an "awesome" $20, and even half that price with a senior pass, making two nights a "bargain" for just $20. The ability for neighbors to tie up boats and fish directly from their campsites further emphasizes the prime location for water enthusiasts, especially those with a "Jon boat" in mind.
However, like any popular campground, there are nuances to the experience. One reviewer expressed a common concern among campers: the excessive brightness of some RV exterior lights, particularly those left on by elderly RVers who "rarely step foot out of their rigs." This issue, while not a reflection on the campground's inherent features, points to a potential area for fostering better communal etiquette regarding light pollution, allowing all campers to enjoy the night sky and the natural darkness of the surroundings. The presence of "gators swimming behind us were entertaining" also serves as a delightful, yet gentle, reminder of the wild nature of the beautiful East Texas environment.
In this article, we will delve deeper into what Magnolia Ridge Campground has to offer. We'll explore its specific location and accessibility, detail the services and features that make it a standout choice, and provide essential contact information. Our goal is to offer a comprehensive and factual overview, helping Texans determine if this scenic and affordable retreat is the perfect fit for their next outdoor adventure.
Understanding both the recreational benefits and the minor communal considerations is key to a successful trip. Magnolia Ridge Campground, with its focus on comfortable amenities, affordability, and direct access to prime fishing, offers a compelling option for a wide range of campers in East Texas.
Magnolia Ridge Campground is conveniently located at 1376 Magnolia St, Woodville, TX 75979, USA. This address places the campground directly within the beautiful natural setting of East Texas, specifically on the shores of B.A. Steinhagen Lake (also known as Dam B). This strategic location is a significant draw for campers, offering direct access to one of the region's prominent waterways.
While the address specifies Magnolia Street in Woodville, the campground itself is nestled within a natural area, providing a sense of escape while remaining accessible. Access to the campground is typically straightforward from major highways in the Woodville area, such as US-190 or US-69. These primary routes connect Woodville to larger cities in Texas, making the campground a relatively easy drive for visitors coming from Houston, Beaumont, or other regional hubs. The roads leading to the campground are generally well-maintained, facilitating smooth travel for RVs of all sizes, including large 5th wheels.
The campground's direct relationship with B.A. Steinhagen Lake is a defining feature of its location. The lake is a popular destination for various water-based activities, particularly fishing. Many sites within Magnolia Ridge Campground offer direct access to the water, allowing campers to tie up their boats or fish directly from their campsites, as noted in reviews. This proximity to the lake makes it an ideal base camp for anglers, kayakers, and anyone who enjoys being by the water.
Despite its natural, somewhat secluded setting, Magnolia Ridge Campground is still within a reasonable driving distance of Woodville's essential services. Campers can easily access grocery stores, gas stations, local restaurants, and other necessities in town, ensuring convenience during their stay. This balance between a natural retreat and access to modern amenities is a key advantage of the campground's location.
The surrounding East Texas Pineywoods provide a scenic backdrop of towering pines and diverse hardwoods, contributing to the serene atmosphere and offering opportunities for birdwatching and enjoying nature. The presence of wildlife, including alligators as noted in one review, underscores the authentic natural environment, which adds to the allure for many nature enthusiasts.
Magnolia Ridge Campground provides a range of services designed to enhance the comfort and convenience of its campers, catering to both RVers and those who prefer a more structured tent camping experience.
- Spacious RV Sites with Hookups: The campground offers numerous sites, many of which are described as "Very large" and capable of accommodating "36 ft 5th wheel and larger RVs." These sites come equipped with essential utility hookups, including:
- Electricity: Sites commonly offer 50-amp electrical service, along with potentially 30-amp options, to meet various RV power needs.
- Water: Potable water connections are available at the sites, ensuring a convenient water supply.
- Covered Concrete Picnic Tables: A highly praised amenity, each site features a "covered concrete picnic table." This provides a comfortable and protected area for outdoor dining, games, and relaxation, regardless of sun or light rain.
- Convenient Dump Station: For RVers, a "convenient dump station" is available within the park, allowing for easy and hygienic waste disposal, which is crucial for extended stays.
- Restroom Facilities: Multiple "bathrooms" are present throughout the park, offering accessible and functional restroom services for all campers.
- Friendly Camp Hosts: The presence of "very friendly" camp hosts is a notable service, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere, providing assistance, and contributing to a positive overall experience for visitors.
- Direct Water Access (for some sites): As highlighted by residents who tie "boats tied up behind their camper and went fishing from the camp site," some sites offer direct access to the water, enabling easy launching and fishing right from the campsite.
While the absence of full sewer hookups at individual sites is implied by the presence of a central dump station, the combination of electric, water, covered picnic tables, and convenient waste disposal makes for a highly functional camping experience.
Magnolia Ridge Campground boasts several key features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for campers in East Texas, drawing from its unique offerings and positive resident feedback.
- Spacious and Big Rig Friendly Sites: A significant highlight is the availability of "Very large site" with "Plenty of room for our 36 ft 5th wheel and larger RVs." This ensures comfortable accommodation for even the biggest rigs, a crucial feature for many modern RVers.
- Exceptional Affordability: The park offers "awesome" value, with 50-amp sites with water hookups available for just "$20." This makes it an incredibly budget-friendly option, particularly appealing for long-term stays or frequent visits.
- Senior Pass Discounts: An outstanding highlight is the "1/2 price with senior pass," allowing seniors to enjoy "2 nights for $20" which is an undeniable "bargain." This significantly enhances accessibility for older Texans.
- Covered Concrete Picnic Tables: This practical amenity provides a protected and durable space for outdoor dining and activities at each site, adding a layer of comfort and convenience that many campgrounds lack.
- Friendly Camp Hosts: The presence of "very friendly" hosts creates a welcoming and supportive environment, contributing positively to the overall camping experience and making visitors feel at home.
- Direct Water Access & Fishing Opportunities: For many sites, the ability to back up to the water, tie up a boat, and "fish from the camp site" is a prime feature for anglers and water enthusiasts, especially with the potential to spot "Gators swimming behind us were entertaining."
- Proximity to B.A. Steinhagen Lake: The campground's location on this major East Texas lake provides abundant opportunities for boating, fishing, kayaking, and general water recreation.
One notable point from a review, while not a "feature" in the traditional sense, is a common communal issue: "elderly RV folks that won't turn off their extremely bright exterior lights at night." This highlights a potential area for park management to encourage better light etiquette to allow all campers to enjoy the night sky and maintain darkness. This is a consideration for visitor experience but does not detract from the physical amenities or natural beauty.
Magnolia Ridge Campground, being a public campground (likely operated by a government entity like the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, given its pricing and senior pass acceptance, though not explicitly stated in this snippet), offers significant benefits in terms of affordability and special passes rather than traditional commercial "promotions."
- Senior Pass Discount: The most prominent "special offer" is the "1/2 price with senior pass." This is a fantastic benefit for eligible individuals, making a 50-amp site with water hookups an incredible "bargain" at just $10 per night. This pass usually refers to the America the Beautiful – The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Senior Pass.
- Exceptional Base Rates: Even without a senior pass, the standard rate of "$20 for 50 amp with water hookups is awesome." This already represents a highly competitive and affordable price point for quality RV camping in Texas.
- Group Site Availability (Potential): While not confirmed, many campgrounds of this type offer group sites or discounted rates for larger reservations, which could be considered a form of "offer" for groups planning to camp together.
It is always recommended for prospective campers to inquire directly with the campground about specific pass eligibility, current rates, and any other potential discounts that might be available for military personnel, disabled individuals, or other specific groups, as these are common at federal or state-operated campgrounds.

Customer Reviews
Great place to camp, and the hosts are all very friendly. My only complaint lies with the elderly RV folks that won't turn off their extremely bright exterior lights at night even though they rarely step foot out of their rigs. Please allow other campers to enjoy the night sky and not be blinded throughout the night or light up other campsites. There is no need for a nightlight out here.
Very large site with covered concrete picnic table. Plenty of room for our 36 ft 5th wheel and larger RVs would do fine. Some of the sites are smaller but plenty of large ones were open. I read other reviews and picked #25 ahead of time and glad I did. Lots of room and backs up to the water. Gators swimming behind us were entertaining. $20 for 50 amp with water hookups is awesome and we got it for 1/2 price with senior pass. 2 nights for $20 is a bargain. I wish I had a Jon boat. Neighbors had boats tied up behind their camper and went fishing from the camp site. We didn't use the bathroom but there are several in the park, and they have a convenient dump station.
Perfect spot to enjoy Big Thicket. No frills but very clean. Offers a covered shelter/picnic table, fire ring, and the sites are spaced nice and far apart for quietness and privacy. We saw lots of wildlife as you are right next to the water. We saw a small family of wild pigs, deer, baby alligators, and lots of cranes and herons. We came to visit the paddling trails offered in Beaumont. This site was way nicer than the options offered there (RV parks). The lady who ran the park was very friendly as well.
This park looks more like Louisiana than Texas with it's large magnolia and cypress trees with the Spanish moss (that is not it's technical name) hanging throughout the perimeter of the lake. The roads are shaded and in good shape, perfect for bike riding. The RV sites are in clusters, making for less opportunity of noisy neighbors. The boat ramp and jetty are nice and user friendly. The RV sites have a covered concrete pad with picnic table. Showers have hot water (yay!) and for the most part well maintained; a little dated and wood around showers are due to be replaced. The campgrounds are shaded and the lake is filled with cypress trees around the edges so if you want a huge, open view, you're not really gonna get it from most RV sites here. Well maintained grounds with no trash. We prefer a more open lake view so this was not our favorite but that is just comparing apples to oranges. It's a well kept, shady, relaxing campground.
Hosts Lisa and Ken were welcoming and helpful. Sites are nicely situated in the woods or along the lake, spread out over several sections. Beautiful place to watch the sunrise over the lake filtering through the cypress trees. Core of Engineers camping never disappoints.
