The Garden Campground offers a fundamental set of services designed to accommodate RVers and campers. These services focus on providing necessary utilities and facilities for a comfortable stay.

  • RV and Camping Sites: The campground provides designated sites suitable for various RV sizes and traditional camping setups.
  • Utility Hookups: Many sites offer essential utility hookups, which typically include electricity, allowing campers to power their vehicles and devices. Water and sewer connections may also be available at designated sites, though availability of water fill-ups for non-guests may be limited.
  • Laundry Facility: A significant amenity, the campground features a new and clean laundry facility, providing a convenient option for residents and campers to wash clothes during their stay.
  • Pet-Friendly Environment: The Garden Campground generally welcomes pets, allowing campers to bring their furry companions along. However, it is important for pet owners to adhere to community guidelines regarding pet waste disposal.
  • Staff Assistance: While feedback on specific interactions can vary, staff are generally available to assist with check-ins and address basic inquiries during operational hours.

The Garden Campground, while focusing on practicality, does offer certain features that enhance the camping experience for its visitors. These highlights contribute to the overall utility and appeal of the property for those seeking a place to stay in Elkhart.

  • New and Clean Laundry Facility: A notable highlight, the campground provides a recently updated and very clean laundry facility, a valuable amenity for both short-term and long-term campers.
  • Accessible Location: Situated conveniently in Elkhart, the campground offers easy access to major highways (US-20, I-80/I-90) and local points of interest, making it a practical stop for travelers.

  • Basic Site Amenities: Campsites are equipped with fundamental amenities, often including electrical hookups, which are essential for RV travelers.
  • Potential for Community Atmosphere: For those on longer stays, there is the potential to build a sense of community with fellow campers, as is often the case in campgrounds that accommodate extended visits.

The Garden Campground, while presenting a no-frills and practical option, can be suitable for certain local Hoosiers and travelers passing through the Elkhart area. It caters to those who prioritize affordability and basic utility over extensive amenities or a pristine resort-like experience.

For individuals or families on a tighter budget, or those who simply need a straightforward place to park their RV or set up camp for a few nights, The Garden Campground offers a cost-effective solution. Its location in Elkhart, the heart of the RV industry, also makes it particularly convenient for those visiting for RV repairs, purchasing new units, or attending industry events. The accessibility to major highways further enhances its suitability as a practical stopover point for cross-state travelers.

The newly updated and clean laundry facility is a definite plus, especially for long-term campers or those on extended road trips, providing a much-needed convenience that isn't always a given at every campground. The pet-friendly policy also allows locals to travel with their furry family members without much hassle, provided they adhere to pet guidelines.

However, it's important for prospective visitors to manage their expectations based on real customer feedback. Concerns about the asphalt millings on roads, potential for standing water after rain, and the need for better pet waste management suggest that the campground's appeal lies more in its practicality and affordability rather than a highly manicured or serene natural environment. The reported instances of police presence indicate that while the staff may be actively working to improve the environment, some challenges with guest behavior might exist.

Therefore, if you are an Indiana local looking for a basic, budget-friendly spot with essential hookups and a good laundry facility, and you are prepared for a more utilitarian camping experience, The Garden Campground could be a viable option. It’s particularly suited for those whose primary need is a convenient base in Elkhart for purposes like RV servicing or short-term stays, rather than a secluded nature retreat. For those prioritizing a quiet, pristine, or highly amenity-rich environment, it might be worth considering other options that align more closely with those preferences.

I really wanted to like the concept of this place, but it was just not great. I do believe the staff is trying their best to get things turned around, but until then I wouldn’t stay here. We chose this camp because nothing else opened until April 1st, but moved as soon as we could. The pictures online are misleading. Roads are asphalt millings, so it’s impossible to keep anything clean, especially the inside of the camper. Every time it rains the place turns into a marshland. The site pictured was the site we had. No one picks up after their dogs, so poop is literally in every square inch that there is grass. The cops were there 5+ times in our 25 day stay, mostly for the couple 2 campers down from us constantly fighting and screaming at each other. It was just not a great stay. On a positive note, the laundry facility was new, and very clean. The price is okay, but it’s worth it to pay extra to stay somewhere cleaner and safer.

Was in Elkhart for a quick RV repair and asked if I could pay a fee to fill my water tank and was refused. The guy I spoke to was nice but apparently the supervisor wasn’t very helpful. There are other times I stay in Elkhart for several days, but won’t stay here. They could have easily charged me a few bucks to fill. Water is hard to find this time of year in these parts.

The Garden Campground in Elkhart presents itself as an RV camping option, but it deviates significantly from the traditional campground experience. Situated adjacent to the Indiana Toll Road and a hotel, the location creates an atmosphere more akin to a parking lot than a nature retreat. While the campground may offer basic amenities like hookups, it falls short in providing the ambiance and tranquility that campers typically seek. The constant noise pollution from the nearby highway detracts from the experience, and the lack of natural landscaping or privacy features leaves much to be desired. The rise in the transient population in the area since the campground's opening is a noteworthy concern. The sight of individuals, presumably experiencing homelessness, leaving the campground to panhandle in the mornings can be unsettling but it's the normal. It is important to acknowledge that The Garden Campground may serve a purpose for overnight travelers seeking a convenient stop with basic utilities. However, it cannot be recommended to those seeking a genuine camping experience characterized by natural beauty, peaceful surroundings, and a sense of community.

The staff here are awesome!!! Rachael and Pat were so accommodating and helpful. The sites are new, clean, have 50 amp power, water, and sewer. The water pressure was pretty low. The only real downfall is the sewer, as the stubs are a bit high and don’t allow for efficient waste tank draining. It appears there was an engineering oversight. It took me about 20 minutes to figure out a workable (but not ideal) solution. If you’re looking for someplace quiet, this isn’t it, as the highway noise is constant. But the price of $56 including tax is very reasonable. And, again, the staff were awesome!!!

This place was a godsend. Me and my partner ran out of water as we were traveling through Elkhart and no one could offer us water for our van and this was the only place out of 15 places I called. Andrea was absolutely sweet and super helpful. Bless the owner and their kind heart for allowing us to stock up on some water without having to stay.
