Nestled in the beautiful mountains of Hegins, Pennsylvania, Camp-A-While lives up to its name by offering a welcoming, well-maintained place where local families and travelers can genuinely "Camp-A-While and Stay-A-While." This campground, operated by friendly and accommodating owners, is recognized across the region for its beautiful grounds, excellent facilities, and sense of community, making it a beloved spot for both overnight stays and seasonal camping.
The core appeal of Camp-A-While lies in its blend of rustic beauty and modern convenience. It features a variety of ways to stay, from primitive tent sites nestled among the woods to full-service RV sites and cozy cabin rentals. A delightful stream runs through the property, adding a serene sound to the atmosphere. Patrons consistently rave about the high level of maintenance across the facility, from the grounds to the extremely large swimming pool and the clean bathhouses. A unique and highly-praised feature is the on-site camp store, which, in addition to carrying typical camping necessities and treats, offers an amazing selection of locally sourced, high-quality beef and pork products, perfect for grilling over a campfire. While the majority of reviews celebrate the campground's tranquility and management, potential visitors should be aware of a challenge common to many campgrounds near main routes: some specific sites, particularly primitive ones, may experience road noise from nearby truck traffic on a steep hill, especially at night. Despite this potential issue for light sleepers in those specific areas, the overall consensus highlights Camp-A-While as a top-tier, well-run, and friendly camping choice in East-Central Pennsylvania.
Camp-A-While is strategically located in the picturesque Hegins Valley, allowing for simple access from various parts of Pennsylvania. The physical address is 1921 E Main St, Hegins, PA 17938.
The Hegins location places the campground in a scenic, rural setting, offering the tranquility of the outdoors while still maintaining good connectivity. For RV and travel trailer owners coming from further afield in the state, the campground is easily reachable from Interstate 81 (I-81), a major north-south corridor, making it an ideal stopover for trips or a convenient destination for a weekend getaway. The local accessibility is a key draw for Pennsylvanians who want to minimize travel time and maximize relaxation. Nestled in the mountains, the campground also serves as a perfect base for exploring nearby attractions, including Locust Lake State Park, the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, and Tuscarora State Park, all within a short driving distance. While the area offers a sense of escape, travelers should note that the approach to Hegins involves some steep hills and downgrades, and interior roads within the park can be hilly and narrow, which RV drivers should navigate slowly and carefully.

Overall, Camp-A-While stands out as a reliable, amenity-filled, and genuinely friendly option for Pennsylvanians seeking a convenient and memorable outdoor escape.

I really wanted to like this place as the owners were very friendly and helpful and the grounds seem so well maintained and enjoyable. A serious problem for me was the main road that is approximately 100 yd from the primitive campsites. Unfortunately right at that location is a steep hill and big rig truckers are constantly running throughout the night. If they're not using their Extremely Loud Jake brakes going down the hill they are very slowly climbing the hill making unbelievably loud noise. I did not get any sleep through the night. I thought I might use my earplugs but I could not sleep with them. I don't know how the trailer campers manage it as I'm sure the noise can penetrate those walls. Once there was enough light in the morning I packed up and left. Unfortunately this is one place I will not return to. I had checked the reviews and unfortunately missed any complaints on noise so I wonder if those comments somehow got buried.
Sep 24, 2025 · Arthur NiedGreat campground for over night or several days. There is a well kept extremely large pool and a very well maintained hiking trail. The campground is well maintained and the seasonal sites appear to be separate from the fairly large wooded daily sites. The owners are very friendly and the selection of local beef and pork meat is both amazing and delicious. We enjoyed our time at Camp-A-While.
Jul 04, 2025 · jan cantrellGreat welcome by Rob and his wife and a nice evening with Elvis, a very good performer!!! We we're impressed by their website and the activities they offer their customers all season long. Definitely worth a visit and perfectly situated so close to I81! A warm thank you to both of you❣️
Aug 10, 2025 · Donald SoucyWe loved our campsite overlooking Pine Creek and the birds that were singing from the trees (we are birders and loved hearing the orioles and warblers). We also walked and enjoyed the mile-long nature trail, which is well maintained. We were impressed with the beauty of the surroundings, the cleanliness of the facilities, and the provisions in the store. The owners, Michelle and Rob, are kind and clearly work hard to keep the place running smoothly, and they obviously care about their campers' experience, while establishing a sense of comfort and community for anyone who visits. We highly recommend this campground!
May 19, 2025 · Vicki VNice campground- well maintained- but there are a few things to know- first- the noise from the tractor trailers going up and down the mountain is extreme- like louder than any road traffic I have heard- using the engine brake on the way down and shifting like 8-10 times as they climb- also 90% of sites are seasonal- not only does that limit site choice- but everyone seems to know everyone except for you. If I could escape the noise somehow I would definitely go back- but there is no escaping the noise and the sites further away from the road are all seasonal :-(
