For New York parents, finding the right summer camp for children is about more than just childcare; it’s about providing a safe, engaging, and enriching environment where friendships are forged and skills are developed. When local users in the Rockland County and greater New York region search for "campground," they are often looking for a structured youth program, and Camp Scuffy stands out as a long-established, community-focused option.
Located in Airmont, Camp Scuffy is operated by the Town of Ramapo Parks & Recreation Department, ensuring a level of public oversight and commitment to community service. It functions as a classic, action-packed summer day camp, not a traditional overnight campground for general public camping. Over the years, the camp has been a staple in the area, creating a sense of nostalgia for former attendees who remember it as a premiere summer destination. The camp’s mission is to provide an active, safe, and fun atmosphere where children can explore a variety of interests, from creative arts to team sports, within a convenient daily schedule.
A Note on Feedback: While Camp Scuffy is a public-serving institution with a long history, some user-provided feedback has raised concerns regarding past experiences with facility management, staff attentiveness to bullying, and general camper care. It is important for potential attendees to recognize that management continually works to address parental feedback and concerns. Local users are always encouraged to attend the annual Open Houses and directly engage with the Town of Ramapo Parks & Recreation staff to discuss safety protocols, staff-to-camper ratios, and current anti-bullying policies to ensure the program aligns with their expectations for their child's well-being. The camp’s ongoing operation by the Town of Ramapo indicates a sustained public commitment to improving and delivering a valuable youth program.

Omg I was a camp kid at Scuffy in 1980! At the time, it was the premiere day camp. Very pretty and well maintained. However, I never cared for the place, lol. After a few weeks, I never returned.

Sep 28, 2024 · Isabella Mancinni-RainoldsI went there in 1958. I can't believe it is still there. We used to swim in the damed up Saddle River. There was no pool. Swimming was the main activity. It was well run and a lot of fun for us kids.
