Introduction / Overview

Cedar Island Ranch is much more than just an RV park; it’s described as "like the gateway to the Outer Banks" and a place that is "Rural & INCREDIBLE!!!" It offers a truly unique camping experience characterized by its stunning natural environment. Guests are encouraged to "Pack your fridge with good food and go enjoy an absolutely stunning beach, beautiful bay, & the coolest horse back riding experience imaginable." The park provides a rustic charm, emphasizing self-sufficiency due to its rural setting, meaning visitors should "pack everything you need including all of your food."

Despite its remote feel, the ranch offers a diverse range of activities. RV campers enjoy sites near the dock on the bayside, allowing for "fishing from the back of our campsite," and abundant wildlife viewing, including "otters swim and enjoyed seeing fish, crab, & birds everyday." A notable highlight is the "NICE!!!" and "CLEAN & large" dog park, praised as a favorite by pet owners, complemented by a "dog friendly" beach. The beach, though a walk, is easily accessible by car with a parking lot, leading to "sandbars/tiny islands that pop up when the tide is out." The presence of "WILD CATTLE ON THE BEACH was insane!!!" provides an unexpected and memorable sight. The "horse back ride" is a definite must-do, with guests recommending it "TWICE" for its "90 minute ride with water crossing," highlighting the health and training of the horses. While experiences regarding booking and refunds have shown some inconsistencies and dissatisfaction for some, the overall sentiment from many campers emphasizes a "RELAXING vacay with plenty of variety," promising return visits.

Cedar Island Ranch is like the gateway to the Outer Banks. Rural & INCREDIBLE!!! Pack your fridge with good food and go enjoy an absolutely stunning beach, beautiful bay, & the coolest horse back riding experience imaginable. This is rural so pack everything you need including all of your food. We camped with an RV on the bayside near the dock and fished from the back of our campsite, watched otters swim and enjoyed seeing fish, crab, & birds everyday from our campsite. The dog park is NICE!!! My favorite one so far for my sweet puppers: CLEAN & large. The beach is dog friendly, too - so he had the time of his life! The beach is not a far walk but there's a parking lot so we drove with our chairs, parked there, and spent several hours on the sandbars/tiny islands that pop up when the tide is out. Watching the WILD CATTLE ON THE BEACH was insane!!! Do NOT skip the horse back ride: we went TWICE; both times the 90 minute ride with water crossing. Their horses are healthy, beautiful & well trained. Make reservations ahead of time for the Ferry & go see Ocracoke Island. The 2 hour ferry ride alone was worth it for the beautiful views and the island was very fun - had lots of restaurants, shops & sightseeing. This is a RELAXING vacay with plenty of variety from fishing to the beach, horse back riding, watching wild cattle, riding the ferry, watching otters, birds, and so forth. We will be back next year & can't wait!!!

This used to be a nice place with friendly people. It has changed. I was misled about the cost when I called to make my reservation. I paid what they told me was my total, including the extra charge for them not to move me to a spot other than the one I reserved. Shortly thereafter they called me and said they had only charged me for part of the cost. I then canceled my reservation and asked for a refund. They said ok. I checked to make sure the refund was issued. It was $87 short. I called back and they informed me that their "policy" is to keep one night's fee. When I reminded them that the reservation had been made and canceled within 40 minutes, and they had misquoted me, their response was that it didn't matter. My reason for sharing this is to say Beware. Some people and places are not quite what they seem in the pictures.

Our guide, Sam, took our group of 4 on a very enjoyable beach ride this past Saturday. The horses were lovely and Sam was a great guide. I’d love to do this ride again. Thanks Sam!

The staff here are very friendly! Also the drive there on HWY 12 has water on each side of the road, and the scenery is unmatched from anywhere I’ve been. Motel room was very nice and clean. It has Dish Network, very new and upgraded heating and air conditioners with microwave, refrigerator and very nice comfortable beds. One of the two ferries to/from Ocracoke is here on Cedar Island and adds to the nostalgia of being here. We watched the ferry from a distance coming in (around 7:30 in the evening) and watched as it unloaded the vehicles. (The other ferry is located at Swan Quarter) We got some really nice tshirts, caps, coffee mug, and various items there at the Cedar island convenience store and gift shop AND at a really good price. Tammy (store manager) and Shayna (Resort manager) were very friendly We had scheduled a horseback ride that is an hour long, but it was rained out. Kandace (our guide), was really fun to talk with, and one of the sweetest persons on the planet. I haven’t been around a more friendly and personable staff than here in Cedar island, On top of all the 5 star rating here, at the time we were there, they were severely understaffed. ( I only know that because I asked to hear more about them and how things were going there, there was no indication that they were understaffed) To sum it up, I would definitely recommend Cedar Island. A great place to be…
