Visitors consistently praise the campground for its prime location and its well-maintained, if sometimes slightly dated, facilities. While some sites might be closer together than in more expansive parks, the trade-off is the incredible convenience of being able to walk to some of Ohio's most famous trails and natural attractions. This campground caters to a variety of camping styles, from full hook-up sites for modern RVs to rustic hike-in spots for those truly seeking to disconnect. Whether you’re planning a family vacation, a solo hiking expedition, or a peaceful retreat with loved ones, Old Man’s Cave Campground offers a memorable experience deeply rooted in the heart of Ohio’s natural splendor.
Old Man's Cave Campground boasts an exceptional location at 19852 OH-664, Logan, OH 43138, USA. This address places it directly within Hocking Hills State Park, making it incredibly convenient for Ohio residents who want to maximize their time exploring the famous rock formations, caves, and waterfalls. As one review noted, there's a "very short trail hike to Old Man's Cave from our site," a major advantage for early morning explorations or quick evening strolls.

Ohio State Route 664 leads directly to the park entrance, making it accessible for all types of vehicles, including larger RVs and those towing trailers. While some internal roads within the campground might be winding, and sites can be closely situated, the paved pads at each site ensure a level and stable setup. Despite its popularity and central location, the campground maintains a relatively quiet ambiance, allowing visitors to enjoy the sounds of nature. The visitor center, offering restrooms, a gift shop, and educational exhibits, is also located just below the campground at the Old Man's Cave parking lot, adding another layer of convenience for campers. This strategic placement ensures that Ohio locals can easily dive into the heart of Hocking Hills without extensive travel once they arrive.

-
The park may also have specific closures for improvements. For example, campsites 1-20, 78, and 80 are scheduled to be closed mid-March 2025 – May 1, 2025, and sites 1-23, 71-80, and the Sherman Cabins will be closed October 1, 2025, until May 2026, due to ongoing improvement projects. Customer Reviews
Great area, but small spots and close together. Was there for the local attractios, so we did not really care about the site sizes. Very short trail hike to old man caves from our site. The climb back was tough.
The campground is decent, but there’s room for improvement. While one of the bath and shower rooms has been upgraded, the other remains quite old. There’s a shortage of flushing toilets, but they do have a pool. The campsites are closely situated, offering little privacy. However, the Sherman cabin 2 we stayed in was lovely, featuring a spacious living room and dining area. It’s nestled against a wooded area, providing easy access to the lake at the back. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
This place is place is "gorge"ous. I think the addition of the new large visitor center in 2018 is going to be the cherry on top of this nature's sundae. We got new light weight hiking boots that came in handy for the wet trails and rocks. There are various difficulties of trails that I feel can be recreational and for beginners. The park doesn't leave out the avid hikers with steep trails and long steps combinations. Parking is free. Wear comfortable shorts, shirts and hiking boots. Bring water or a bladder bag. Also you're going to want to bring your camera to snap all those beautiful scenes.
Let me start by saying, "WOOOWWWW, WOW and more WOWS'" This place is THE BEST adventure the boys and I have been on. It is GORGEOUS, BEAUTIFUL, FAIRY-TALISH 😁 There is so much to do. I didn't find the 'Old Man's, however, the cave was impossible to miss. They're huge and EVERYWHERE! Around EVERY corner was something more fabulous and exciting as the last. It reminded me of "Lord of the Rings" along w "Jurassic Park". The caves looked like they were dug out in the rock walls. You could live in them they're so deep in. The roots of the huge trees were entangled all over. Trees from up above looking as if they were going to just fall out from the dirt and come tumbling down. We did see the "Devil's Bathtub". I thought it was going to be bigger but it was still AWESOME! The story is that it goes all the way down to the middle of the Earth. We looked like little ants up against the huge rock walls. There were steps dug into the side of the walls but also steps that winded out over the creek water. The coolest set of stairs I've ever seen. We did not get to finish but GUARANTEE we WILL BE BACK next wkend. Starting early. 🌞 I took so many pics but I can only add 50. Everything u will have questions about will most likely be in my pics. Btw, I didn't see any playground, there is picnic areas and it is animal friendly so bring your dog along. He/she would love it! 🐕I give Old Man's Cave a 10 ⭐
This is the official state park campground, not one of the private ones. The camp office/store had helpful employees, souvenirs, ice, firewood, and camping supplies. Our campsite was clean and typical of any state park site - fire pit, parking spot, picnic table, and nearby water fountain. The restrooms by the pool had showers with hot water. We didn't have time to go swimming, but the pool looked really nice. Beware of hungry racoons that are not the least bit afraid of people, and will steal your food.
