Hocking Hills Organized Youth Campground About
For Ohioans eager to immerse themselves in the raw, untouched beauty of Hocking Hills without breaking the bank, the Hocking Hills Organized Youth Campground offers a unique and authentic camping experience. Despite its name, this hidden gem is not exclusively for organized youth groups; it welcomes all campers seeking a primitive, quiet, and spacious retreat into nature. If your idea of a perfect getaway involves disconnecting from modern distractions and reconnecting with the sounds of birds and crickets, this campground is a delightful discovery.
Unlike some of the more developed camping options in the Hocking Hills area, this campground prides itself on its rustic charm. You won't find electricity or water hookups at your site, but that's precisely part of its appeal for those who embrace traditional camping. As one satisfied camper noted, "There are no electricity and water hookups but who cares, we’re doing camping the traditional way. 😅" This commitment to a simpler, more natural experience allows for a truly serene environment where the sounds of nature become your soundtrack.
The Hocking Hills Organized Youth Campground offers generously sized sites, providing ample space for multiple tents and a comfortable buffer from neighboring campers, ensuring a sense of privacy often missing in more crowded parks. While it's slightly removed from the central hub of Hocking Hills State Park, its proximity to key attractions like Cedar Falls and the convenience of accessing the main park's amenities make it an exceptionally suitable choice for Ohio locals looking for an affordable, peaceful, and adventurous basecamp for exploring the region's iconic cliffs, caves, and waterfalls.
The Hocking Hills Organized Youth Campground is conveniently located on Co Rd 287, Logan, OH 43138, USA. This places it within the renowned Hocking Hills region of Ohio, celebrated for its stunning natural landscapes, including towering cliffs, deep gorges, and picturesque waterfalls. While the campground offers a sense of seclusion, it remains highly accessible to all the major attractions that draw visitors to this area.
Its location is a key benefit, providing a quiet camping experience while still being just a short drive from the bustling heart of Hocking Hills State Park. Campers have noted that it's "a bit removed from Hocking Hills State Park but a short drive to all of the attractions." Specifically, it is located "right across the street from the lookout tower" and is "near Cedar Falls," two popular landmarks that are easily reachable.
Accessing the campground is generally straightforward via well-maintained county roads. Upon arrival, even late at night, check-in can be handled the next morning, allowing for flexibility in travel plans. For those traveling from Ohio's major cities like Columbus, Cincinnati, or Cleveland, the drive to Hocking Hills is manageable, making this campground an ideal weekend or week-long escape. Its strategic placement allows you to enjoy the tranquility of primitive camping without sacrificing convenient access to the region's trails, natural wonders, and visitor facilities.
The Hocking Hills Organized Youth Campground embraces a primitive camping style, meaning it focuses on providing essential services that support a rustic outdoor experience, rather than extensive modern conveniences. This approach appeals to campers who enjoy being self-sufficient and fully immersed in nature.
- Primitive Campsites: The campground offers designated primitive campsites. As reviewed, these sites provide "enough space for at least 5 tents per spot," offering ample room for groups and privacy.
- No Electricity Hookups: Campers should be prepared for a true off-grid experience, as individual sites do not have electrical hookups. This encourages a simpler, more traditional form of camping.
- No Water Hookups: Similar to electricity, individual sites do not have direct water hookups. Campers will need to bring their own water or utilize the central water spigots available within the Hocking Hills State Park system.
- Toilet Facilities: While individual sites are primitive, campers have access to "more decent toilet" facilities in the main Hocking Hills State Park Campground area, which is about an 11-minute drive away. These typically include flush toilets.
- Shower Facilities: Guests at the Hocking Hills Organized Youth Campground have access to the heated shower facilities located in the main Hocking Hills State Park Campground. This is a significant convenience for primitive campers, allowing for a refreshing clean-up after a day of hiking.
- Online Booking: The campground allows for online booking, making it convenient to secure your spot in advance. This is particularly helpful since "no walk-ins" are permitted.
- Fire Rings and Picnic Tables: While not explicitly stated for this specific youth campground in all public data, standard primitive campsites in state parks typically include a fire ring and a picnic table at each site for cooking and outdoor dining.
It's important for campers to pack appropriately for a primitive experience, including bringing headlamps, cooking gear, and plenty of water, while appreciating the access to more modern facilities just a short drive away.

These highlights collectively paint a picture of a campground that delivers a peaceful, spacious, and authentic primitive camping experience with the added benefit of convenient access to Hocking Hills' most beloved attractions and essential amenities.
As a state park campground managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), the Hocking Hills Organized Youth Campground primarily operates on a standardized fee structure. It typically does not feature the same kind of seasonal promotions or discount codes that private commercial campgrounds might offer. Its main "promotion" is its inherent affordability as a primitive camping option within a highly sought-after natural area.
However, it's important for prospective campers to be aware of the fee structure and any state-wide passes that could be relevant:
- Affordable Rates: Reviews highlight that these are the "cheapest sites in the park," making it an attractive, budget-friendly option for Ohio residents. While specific rates can vary, primitive sites are generally the most economical.
- Ohio State Parks Pass/Discounts: While Ohio does not have a general annual "park pass" in the same way some other states do, certain programs or discounts might be available through the ODNR for specific groups (e.g., veterans, seniors) on camping fees, though this would need to be verified with the park directly or on the Ohio State Parks reservation system.
- Group Rates: Given its name, "Organized Youth Campground," there might be specific group rates or reservation policies for registered youth organizations, though general public use is also permitted. Contacting the park office would clarify any such arrangements.
- Online Booking Convenience: The ability to "book online" is a convenience that streamlines the reservation process, especially since walk-ins are not permitted. While not a discount, it's a valuable service for planning.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on camping fees, any potential discounts, and booking policies, it is always recommended to consult the official Ohio State Parks website (ReserveOhio.com) or contact the Hocking Hills State Park office directly. The primary value of this campground remains its cost-effectiveness in providing a quality primitive camping experience within one of Ohio's most beautiful natural regions.

Customer Reviews
The place is so quiet you can only hear the birds and crickets which are music to my ears. There are no electricity and water hookups but who cares, we’re doing camping the traditional way. 😅 There is enough space for at least 5 tents per spot. You can book online. We arrived late at around 8 PM so the campground office was closed already but we can still do the check-in the next morning. There is a shower and more decent toilet in the main campground area which is 11 minutes away from here.
Good primitive campsites. Cheapest sites in the park. You don't have to be a "youth" to use it either (or organized). Very quiet and fairly large spots. It's a bit removed from Hocking Hills State Park but a short drive to all of the attractions. You still have access to Hocking Hills amenities (including showers). Right across the street from the lookout tower. Near Cedar Falls.
Perfect for what we needed. No electricity or running water at sights. We got sights 2 and 3 close to bathrooms for ease at night. Enough space for 6 tents
We stayed in spot 13. It was very big, perfect for our big group of 12+ families. The trees were tall and gorgeous. There was plenty of room for tents and exploring. It was also close to hikes!
Very easy to find. Great price for camping. Our site was Y03 and it is a joining site to Y02 but we had some pretty decent neighbors. The campground is just one way in and one way out. We had an outhouse across the road from us so late night bathroom trips was a breeze. We was also able to bring our dog which is always a plus for me. The site was only $20 a night. You check in at the Hocking Hills State Park Office.
