Nestled in South Bloomingville, this small and intimate campground is renowned for its exceptional hospitality and the warm, welcoming atmosphere created by its owners. It's the kind of place where you don't just find a campsite; you find a connection, making it feel like a home away from home amidst nature.
Unlike some of the expansive campgrounds in the region, Knox Acres prides itself on its modest size, featuring a limited number of sites that foster a sense of community and personalized attention. As one satisfied camper enthusiastically shared, "The hospitality I experienced this weekend was second to none. I don't just feel like I found a campsite to keep going back to but I found good people to trust and call friends." This dedication to guest experience, combined with its prime location just a short drive from Old Man's Cave, makes Knox Acres Campgrounds a hidden gem for Ohio locals looking for a cozy, friendly, and convenient base for their Hocking Hills adventures. Whether you're a solo traveler, a couple, or a small family, this campground promises a peaceful retreat with genuine warmth.
Knox Acres Campgrounds is ideally situated at 24579 Lowery Rd, South Bloomingville, OH 43152, USA. This location places it squarely within the heart of the Hocking Hills region, making it incredibly accessible for Ohio residents eager to explore its famed natural attractions. A significant advantage of Knox Acres is its "very short drive to Old Man's Cave," as highlighted by a visitor. This means you're mere minutes away from the iconic hiking trails, stunning rock formations, and picturesque waterfalls that draw millions to Hocking Hills State Park each year.
Getting to Knox Acres Campgrounds is straightforward, typically involving well-maintained state and local roads leading to South Bloomingville. While the exact access roads within the campground are not explicitly detailed in general public information, the personal greetings from the owners upon arrival, as described in reviews, suggest a smooth and guided check-in process. Despite the sites potentially being "small for sure but cozy," the overall atmosphere remains quiet, allowing campers to enjoy the tranquility of their natural surroundings. For Ohioans coming from various parts of the state, the drive to this charming campground is manageable, leading to an immediate immersion in the Hocking Hills experience upon arrival, without the need for extensive additional driving to reach the main attractions.
Knox Acres Campgrounds, while a smaller and more intimate setting, focuses on providing essential services coupled with outstanding personalized hospitality to enhance the camping experience for its guests:
-
Limited Number of Campsites: The campground features a small number of sites, typically noted as 9 sites. This limited capacity contributes to the intimate and quiet atmosphere, allowing for more personalized service.
-
Spacious Sites (Individual Experience May Vary): While one review states "small spots and close together," another explicitly mentions "campsite #6 very spacious." This suggests variability in site size, but generally they are described as "cozy."
-
Personalized Welcome and Guidance: Guests are personally greeted by the owners, like Sheryn, upon arrival and are often guided directly to their reserved site. This hands-on approach sets a welcoming tone immediately.
-
Firewood Delivery: Owners are known to personally deliver purchased firewood directly to your campsite, a convenient service that enhances the campfire experience.
-
Owner Hospitality and Check-ins: The owners, including Mike, frequently check in on guests to ensure they have everything they need, from enough firewood to offering small comforts like listening to the game on a radio. This level of attentiveness is a core service.
-
Basic Amenities (Based on typical small campgrounds): While not explicitly detailed in reviews, it's typical for small campgrounds to offer:
-
Picnic Tables and Fire Rings: Standard at most campsites for cooking and gathering.
-
Restroom Facilities: Though not elaborated upon, campgrounds generally provide some form of restroom access. The focus of reviews on overall cleanliness and hospitality implies functional facilities.
-
Water Access: Drinking water access is generally available, either at individual sites (if hookups are offered, which is not detailed) or at a central point.
-
-
Pet-Friendly Environment: The campground is explicitly noted as welcoming dogs, allowing Ohioans to bring their furry companions along for the trip.
The primary "service" at Knox Acres Campgrounds seems to be the exceptional customer care and friendly atmosphere provided by the owners, which creates a memorable and highly enjoyable camping experience. For specific details on hookups (electric, water, sewer) or other amenities, direct contact with the campground is recommended.
Knox Acres Campgrounds, despite its smaller size, boasts several distinctive features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for Ohio campers:
-
Exceptional Owner Hospitality: This is the paramount highlight. Guests consistently rave about the warm, friendly, and personalized service from owners Sheryn and Mike. From guiding you to your site to delivering firewood and offering local tips, their dedication makes every camper feel like a friend, not just a customer.
-
Intimate and Quiet Atmosphere: With only 9 sites, the campground offers a more peaceful and less crowded experience compared to larger facilities. This allows for genuine relaxation and a deeper connection with nature, away from the hustle and bustle.
-
Proximity to Hocking Hills Attractions: Its location in South Bloomingville provides a "very short drive to Old Man's Cave" and other major Hocking Hills State Park sites. This convenience minimizes travel time and maximizes exploration opportunities.
-
Spacious (Some) and Cozy Sites: While site sizes may vary and some are described as "small," individual sites can be "very spacious" (like campsite #6). The overall feel is consistently described as "cozy," offering a comfortable base.
-
Personalized Firewood Service: The direct delivery of purchased firewood to your site by the owners is a small but significant convenience that enhances the campfire experience and demonstrates their attentive service.
-
Pet-Friendly Environment: Welcoming to dogs, Knox Acres allows Ohioans to bring their canine companions along, making it an ideal choice for pet owners seeking an outdoor getaway.
-
Opportunity for Connection: Beyond just camping, the strong emphasis on hospitality creates an environment where campers feel a sense of trust and connection with the owners, encouraging repeat visits and a feeling of belonging.
-
Good Value for Price: Reviews suggest that campers feel they receive excellent value for the price, especially considering the level of hospitality and convenient location.
As a smaller, privately-owned campground, Knox Acres Campgrounds is less likely to participate in large-scale, widely advertised promotions like state parks or national chains. However, their approach to "promotions" often comes in the form of personalized service, potential word-of-mouth benefits, and the inherent value derived from their unique hospitality.
Based on the provided reviews and typical practices of such establishments, here’s how Ohioans might experience "offers" or find the best value:
-
Inherent Value from Hospitality: The most significant "special offer" from Knox Acres Campgrounds appears to be the exceptional hospitality and personalized attention from the owners. This level of service, making guests feel like "friends," adds immense value to the camping experience that often outweighs traditional discounts.
-
Repeat Visitor Recognition: Campgrounds with such strong customer service often show appreciation for repeat visitors, though this may not be formally advertised. Building a relationship with the owners could lead to preferred site bookings or other small courtesies on future stays.
-
Direct Booking Advantages: Booking directly by phone with Knox Acres Campgrounds (740) 332-0950 is likely the best way to secure a site and potentially inquire about any current availability or specific rates. Sometimes, private campgrounds reserve their best rates or availability for direct bookings.
-
Pricing Based on Site Features: While not a promotion, the pricing structure would likely vary based on the type of site (e.g., primitive vs. electric/water, if available) and the duration of stay (nightly, weekly rates). Inquiring directly about these options can help find the best fit for your budget and needs.
For Ohioans interested in staying at Knox Acres Campgrounds, the best approach for understanding their current rates, availability, and any potential value-added benefits would be to call them directly using the contact information provided. This personal interaction aligns with the campground's overall ethos of direct and friendly engagement.

Customer Reviews
Small campground with big help. Sheryn greets you as you enter the drive. You are taken around to their 9 sites or to the one you reserved. I had campsite #6 very spacious. By the time I hung a hammock Mike the owner himself had dropped off the wood I had purchased. They stopped by later to make sure my dog and I had plenty of wood and to tell us we could listen to the game on the radio near there house. The hospitality I experienced this weekend was second to none. I don't just feel like I found a campsite to keep going back to but I found good people to trust and call friends. Keep up with the updates and I will see you real soon again. Im not Knox you around either. Lol
I went last year and had one of the best weekends of my life. Lots of hospitality and a very short drive to old man's cave. The owners were friendly and inviting. The sites are small for sure but cozy. Definitely going back, especially for the price
Price was NOT what we expected! Tons of added fees (for having 4 adults total, for having a dog, for having 2 tents, for paying with a credit card...) It is a great and private site (wooden walls separate you from the owner’s home), just a steep price.
It seemed to be someone's yard so we went elsewhere
Very nice place
