Camp Clearfork About
For many Arkansans, the quest for an ideal outdoor retreat for group events, family gatherings, or youth camps often leads to discovering hidden gems within the state's abundant natural landscapes. While numerous public campgrounds dot the Natural State, some unique destinations cater specifically to private group reservations, offering a more secluded and tailored experience. One such destination is Camp Clearfork, nestled in the scenic area of Royal, Arkansas. This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of Camp Clearfork, designed to help local users in Arkansas understand its unique offerings and how to access this special venue for their next private group event.
Arkansas is celebrated for its diverse terrain, from the rugged beauty of the Ouachita and Ozark Mountains to the tranquil waters of its many lakes and rivers. This rich natural environment provides a perfect backdrop for outdoor activities, community building, and peaceful reflection. Camp Clearfork stands out as a distinctive option because it's not a typical public campground where individual sites are rented on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, it operates on a private group reservation model, making it an excellent choice for organizations, families, and friends seeking exclusive use of a natural setting for their gatherings.
Understanding the nature of Camp Clearfork is key to appreciating its suitability for certain types of events. It’s a facility designed to host groups, offering a dedicated space where privacy and shared experiences can flourish without the distractions of a general public campground. This makes it particularly appealing for events such as corporate retreats, church gatherings, family reunions, youth camps, or even unique occasions like a private wedding, as highlighted by a past happy couple. The secluded nature, combined with the facilities it provides, offers a structured yet natural environment for group activities and bonding.
While the concept of a private group campground might be less familiar than traditional camping, it offers distinct advantages. Groups can enjoy exclusive access to facilities, allowing for greater flexibility in scheduling activities, organizing events, and maintaining a comfortable level of privacy. This model minimizes interactions with unknown parties, which can be a significant draw for groups prioritizing safety, cohesion, and dedicated space. For Arkansans planning an event that requires a natural setting with dedicated amenities for their attendees, Camp Clearfork presents a compelling option that warrants closer examination.
This article will delve into the specific details of Camp Clearfork, from its precise location and how to access it, to the types of facilities and services it offers. We will also address important practical considerations such as connectivity and reservation procedures, all based on publicly available information and real customer experiences. Our aim is to equip local users with the factual knowledge needed to determine if Camp Clearfork is the perfect fit for their upcoming private group event in the heart of Arkansas.
Location and Accessibility
Camp Clearfork is nestled at Clearfork Trail, Royal, AR 71968, USA. This address places it within Garland County, a picturesque area in west-central Arkansas, renowned for its natural beauty, including forests, lakes, and the proximity to Hot Springs National Park. The setting in Royal, a smaller community, emphasizes its secluded and natural environment, ideal for a private group retreat away from urban hustle.
Accessibility to Camp Clearfork requires a specific understanding, as it is not a drive-up public campground. The reviews explicitly state, "access is by private group reservation only via the Womble District Forest Service Office in Mt. Ida." This highlights that direct public access for casual visits is not permitted; entry is granted only to confirmed groups with prior bookings. This structured access contributes to the private and secure nature of the camp, ensuring that only authorized groups are present.
Regarding the physical approach to the campground, it is noted that "There is a one lane dirt road that leads into the camp area, but there is lots of parking once you reach the camp." This information is crucial for those planning to bring multiple vehicles or larger group transport. While the dirt road might suggest a more rustic approach, the ample parking once inside the camp alleviates concerns about vehicle accommodation. Navigating a one-lane dirt road requires careful driving, especially for those unfamiliar with such terrain or driving larger vehicles like buses or RVs, if permitted for group use. However, the destination promises a rewarding secluded experience.
The location in Royal, Arkansas, means that while the camp itself offers a sense of seclusion, it remains within reasonable driving distance of larger towns and attractions. Hot Springs, for example, is relatively close, offering access to essential services, supplies, and entertainment options should a group need them. This balance of natural seclusion and nearby amenities is a significant advantage for organizing group events. The remoteness also contributes to the peaceful atmosphere, a key draw for private retreats. Emergency services, though potentially some distance away, would be accessible via the provided landline for emergencies (once repaired), underscoring the importance of understanding the off-grid nature of the location for communication.
Services Offered
Camp Clearfork is designed to cater specifically to private group events, offering a range of facilities that support multi-day stays and various activities. While not a typical public campground with individual sites and a wide array of recreational amenities, its services are tailored to the needs of organized groups seeking a communal and functional outdoor experience. Based on customer reviews, the following services and facilities are typically offered:
- Private Group Reservations: The fundamental service is the exclusive booking of the entire camp for private groups. This means the entire facility is reserved solely for your group's use, ensuring privacy and dedicated space for your event. Reservations are required and managed through the Womble District Forest Service Office in Mt. Ida.
- Bunkhouses: The campground provides multiple bunkhouses for accommodation. These are described as having "screens on the windows to let the air in and are shaded," and while "a little on the old side," they are "still very functional." This suggests basic, rustic lodging suitable for group sleeping arrangements, without air conditioning but designed to be comfortable in the shade.
- On-site Bathroom with Showers: Access to dedicated bathroom facilities, including showers, is available. This is a crucial amenity for multi-day group stays, providing essential hygiene services within the camp grounds.
- Kitchen Facility (Common Area): A central kitchen facility is provided, serving as a common area. This is invaluable for groups planning to prepare their own meals, offering a designated space for cooking, dining, and potentially group gatherings. This feature significantly enhances the self-sufficiency of groups staying at the camp.
- Parking: While the access road is a "one lane dirt road," ample parking is available once you reach the main camp area, accommodating numerous vehicles for group attendees.
- Emergency Landline: Recognizing the lack of cell reception, a landline is provided for emergency purposes. Although noted as "currently under repair," the intent is to offer a vital communication link in case of emergencies.
- Wooded Campground Environment: The entire camp is set within a "beautiful wooded campground," offering a natural and serene environment that serves as a backdrop for all activities and accommodations.
It is important to note that while the facilities are functional, some "look like they could use some updating," indicating a more rustic and less modern experience than some might expect. However, for groups seeking a private, functional, and natural setting, these services provide a solid foundation.

This exclusivity ensures that your group has dedicated access to all facilities and the entire camp area, fostering a strong sense of privacy, security, and uninterrupted group cohesion. - Beautiful Wooded Setting: The camp is situated within a "beautiful wooded campground." This natural environment provides a serene and picturesque backdrop for any event, allowing groups to immerse themselves in the tranquility of Arkansas's forests. The shade provided by the trees also contributes to comfortable conditions, especially for the bunkhouses which lack air conditioning.

This means the camp offers a rustic, authentic outdoor experience without compromising essential utility, appealing to groups who value functionality and natural immersion over modern luxuries.
- Ample Parking: Despite the one-lane dirt access road, there is "lots of parking once you reach the camp." This is a practical highlight for groups arriving in multiple vehicles, ensuring sufficient space for all attendees' transportation.
- Emergency Landline (Planned Functionality): The presence of a landline for emergencies, even if "currently under repair," signifies a commitment to safety and communication, which is crucial in an area with no cell reception. Once fully functional, this provides peace of mind for group leaders.
- Secluded Location in Royal, AR: The camp's position on Clearfork Trail in Royal provides a sense of being truly "away from it all," perfect for focused retreats, team-building exercises, or peaceful family gatherings where disconnection from everyday distractions is desired.
Promotions or Special Offers
Based on the provided information, Camp Clearfork operates on a unique model geared towards private group reservations rather than individual bookings or typical seasonal campground promotions. The reviews state, "access is by private group reservation only via the Womble District Forest Service Office in Mt. Ida," and that "The fees vary depending on what facilities you want to rent." This indicates a structured fee system based on the scope of the group's needs and the facilities utilized, rather than a system of ongoing public promotions or discounts.
As a facility managed through the Womble District Forest Service Office, it is highly unlikely that Camp Clearfork would advertise traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in the same way a commercial campground might. Government or public service-affiliated facilities often operate on fixed rate schedules determined by their managing bodies, with fees calculated to cover operational costs rather than to maximize profit through promotional campaigns.
Therefore, for local Arkansans interested in booking Camp Clearfork, the focus should not be on seeking discounts or special deals. Instead, inquiries should center on:
- Availability: Checking specific dates for your desired group event.
- Fee Structure: Understanding how the fees are calculated based on the facilities you wish to rent (e.g., number of bunkhouses, use of kitchen facility, duration of stay).
- Reservation Process: Learning the exact steps and requirements for making a private group reservation through the Womble District Forest Service Office.
- Booking Lead Time: Understanding how far in advance reservations typically need to be made, especially for popular seasons.
Any variation in cost would likely stem from customizing your reservation to include more or fewer facilities, or a longer or shorter stay, rather than from a promotional discount. Prospective groups should directly contact the Womble District Forest Service Office to obtain detailed and current pricing information for their specific group's needs. This transparent, facility-based pricing model ensures clarity for all interested parties without the expectation of fluctuating promotional offers.

Campground Address: Clearfork Trail, Royal, AR 71968, USA
Reservation Office: Womble District Forest Service Office in Mt. Ida.
While the address of Camp Clearfork provides its physical location, all access and bookings are managed through the Womble District Forest Service Office. Therefore, direct contact with this office is necessary to make a reservation and inquire about specific fees and availability.
Phone: (501) 991-3831
Mobile Phone: +1 501-991-3831
It is highly recommended that groups utilize the provided phone numbers to connect with the Womble District Forest Service Office. When calling, be prepared to discuss:
- Your group's specific needs and the nature of your event.
- Desired dates for your reservation.
- The number of attendees you anticipate.

Since the fees "vary depending on what facilities you want to rent," clear communication about your requirements will enable the Forest Service staff to provide accurate pricing and availability information. This direct contact is the only reliable way to plan and secure your private group event at Camp Clearfork.
Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
Camp Clearfork, nestled on Clearfork Trail in Royal, Arkansas, stands out as a uniquely suitable venue for a specific segment of local Arkansans: groups seeking a private, secluded, and functional outdoor retreat. While it's not a typical public campground for individual bookings, its design and management cater perfectly to organized events, making it an excellent choice for family reunions, youth camps, corporate team-building events, church retreats, or even private celebrations like a wedding, as one reviewer happily shared.
The primary suitability for locals lies in its exclusive private group access. For any organization or large family planning an event that requires a dedicated space without public interference, Camp Clearfork offers unparalleled privacy. This allows groups to enjoy the beautiful wooded setting, utilize the bunkhouses, kitchen facility, and bathrooms entirely on their own terms, fostering a stronger sense of community, security, and focus on their specific agenda. This exclusivity is a significant advantage over shared public campgrounds, where privacy and dedicated space can be limited.
Furthermore, the camp's facilities, while acknowledged as being "a little on the old side" and potentially needing "some updating," are consistently described as "very functional." This means locals can expect a rustic yet comfortable and practical experience. The availability of bunkhouses, on-site showers, and a common kitchen facility significantly enhances the convenience for multi-day group stays, reducing the need for extensive personal camping gear beyond sleeping arrangements. The ample parking space, despite the one-lane dirt access road, also addresses a practical concern for groups arriving in multiple vehicles.
The secluded nature of the camp, with no cell reception (though an emergency landline is available, or soon to be), encourages groups to truly disconnect and immerse themselves in the natural environment. For many Arkansans, this opportunity to escape the constant connectivity of daily life and engage in meaningful interactions within their group is a highly desired feature of an outdoor retreat. The beauty of the wooded setting provides a serene backdrop for relaxation, recreation, and building stronger bonds.
Finally, the reservation process, managed through the Womble District Forest Service Office in Mt. Ida, provides a structured and reliable pathway to booking this unique venue. While it requires planning, this system ensures that the camp is well-managed for private events. For locals who understand and appreciate this model, Camp Clearfork offers an ideal blend of natural beauty, functional facilities, and crucial privacy, making it a highly suitable and memorable location for their next private group gathering in the heart of Arkansas.
Customer Reviews
Our favorite place for private group events. We got married here in 2010. Please keep in mind that access is by private group reservation only via the Womble District Forest Service Office in Mt. Ida.
I gave it a 4 star because it is a really beautiful area and totally worth using, but some of the facilities look like they could use some updating. It is a beautiful wooded campground. It has a lot of bunkhouses, an onsite bathroom with showers, and a kitchen facility(common area). The bunkhouses have no air conditioning, but they do have screens on the windows to let the air in and are shaded, so it isn't usually too hot. The bunkhouses are also a little on the old side but still very functional. There is a one lane dirt road that leads into the camp area, but there is lots of parking once you reach the camp. There is no cell reception in the campground area, but there is a landland for emergency purposes (currently under repair, but should be functional soon). If cell service is something you cant live without, then this isn't the camp area for you. Reservations are required. The fees vary depending on what facilities you want to rent.
Beautiful campground with several bunkhouses as well as space for tent camping and RV hook ups. Dining hall with full kitchen, ice maker, flat top grill, freezer & cooler available! Bunkhouses were very spacious, bathrooms were clean with plenty of toilets and several showers with hot water. Video is from the road on the way in!
This place is great ! Did not get to enjoy the water due to the rain . but awesome place for gatherings
I've been coming out here once a year most of my life. It is a nice quiet and beautiful campground. Unfortunately, the facilities have been declining in recent years, more things broken or detriorating. It's still a wonderful site, and I still very much enjoy the nostalgia of being here.
