Lock A Campground About

For those of us in Tennessee who cherish the tranquility of riverside living and the simplicity of a well-maintained campground, Lock A Campground in Ashland City offers a delightful escape. Nestled along the picturesque Cumberland River, this U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) campground is a local favorite for its serene environment, clean facilities, and unique vantage point for observing river life. Whether you’re a boater looking for convenient access, a pet owner seeking open spaces, or simply someone who appreciates a peaceful spot to unwind, Lock A Campground provides a welcoming atmosphere.

Lock A Campground is known for its meticulous upkeep and the sense of calm it provides. Visitors consistently highlight the cleanliness of the restrooms and the overall neatness of the grounds, which are crucial for a comfortable camping experience. The campground’s strategic location by the lock and dam system on the Cumberland River offers fascinating views of barges passing by, adding a unique element to your stay. It’s a place where you can truly slow down, enjoy the natural beauty, and connect with the rhythm of the river.

While the drive to the campground might present some typical rural road characteristics, the destination itself is well worth the journey. The friendly atmosphere, combined with essential amenities and the opportunity for quiet reflection, makes Lock A Campground a highly recommended choice for any Tennessee resident seeking a genuine outdoor experience with a focus on peace and riverside charm.

Location and Accessibility

Lock A Campground is wonderfully situated at 1797 Cheatham Dam Rd, Ashland City, TN 37015, USA. This location places it directly on the banks of the Cumberland River, adjacent to the Cheatham Lock and Dam, offering prime riverside views and immediate access to water-based activities. Ashland City, a charming community in Cheatham County, serves as the nearest town, providing a peaceful small-town atmosphere while still being within a reasonable driving distance from larger metropolitan areas like Nashville.

Access to the campground is generally straightforward, though a few considerations are worth noting based on visitor feedback. The road from Ashland City leading to the campground, Cheatham Dam Road, is described as being a "little narrow," and locals are noted to drive it with enthusiasm. While this might require a bit more caution, it is a manageable approach. The road into the campground itself also has "steep spots," which campers, particularly those with larger RVs, should be aware of for safe navigation.

Despite these minor road characteristics, the location offers excellent accessibility for those focused on river activities. Its proximity to the Cumberland River and a deep-water dock makes it an ideal stop for boaters traveling south on the river, providing a perfect spot to refill water and stretch legs. The blend of a tranquil riverside setting with practical access for river traffic makes Lock A Campground a unique and appealing destination for Tennessee locals seeking a serene outdoor experience.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) campground, Lock A Campground operates under federal guidelines regarding fees and potential discounts. While specific, temporary "promotions" in the commercial sense are rare for COE campgrounds, they do consistently offer well-established discount programs that are highly beneficial for eligible individuals.

The most common and widely utilized discount program at COE campgrounds, including Lock A, is the America the Beautiful – National Parks & Federal Recreational Lands Pass series. These passes offer significant savings on camping fees:

  • Access Pass: This is a free, lifetime pass for U.S. citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities. It provides a 50% discount on camping fees at federal recreation sites.
  • Senior Pass: Available for U.S. citizens or permanent residents aged 62 or over. This is a lifetime pass ($80) or an annual pass ($20). It also provides a 50% discount on camping fees at federal recreation sites.
  • Military Pass: A free annual pass for active duty military personnel and their dependents. It provides general access but may also extend discounts on amenities like camping.
  • Volunteer Pass: Awarded to volunteers who accrue 250 hours of service at federal recreation sites, offering similar benefits.

It is crucial for prospective campers to present their pass upon arrival to receive the discount. Additionally, some COE campgrounds might offer group rates for larger parties booking multiple sites, though this should be confirmed directly. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on fees, availability, and specific discount policies, it is always recommended to check the official U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recreation website (Recreation.gov is often used for booking) or contact Lock A Campground directly.

The second doc is the best for deeper boats. Very clean nice place good place to get out and stretch your legs. If you need to use the restroom it's right by the dock and then they have fresh water and the pavilion also. Perfect spot to refill your water stretch your legs, if you're headed south on the river!

Very nice COE campground. Plenty of places to walk the dog while watching barges pass by. The road from Ashland City is a little narrow and locals drive it like a nascar road course. Road into the campground has steep spots. Lastly plenty of ticks everywhere so be warned.

Clean campground, beautiful place with waterfront tent sites. Water and garbage bin at each site. 👍 Plentiful options for stuff to do in Clarksville and Nashville. It rained a lot the two times I camped here, might just be bad luck. Thanks for the memories!
