For local Michiganders, this campground presents an ideal opportunity to experience the raw beauty of our state's forests and lakes without venturing too far from home. It's a place where the sounds of the city fade, replaced by the gentle rustle of leaves and the lapping of water against the shore.

This rustic campground is known for its peaceful atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for families, couples, and solo adventurers seeking a quiet retreat. Unlike some of the more bustling campgrounds, McCollum Lake offers a true wilderness experience, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the natural surroundings. Whether you're an avid angler, a hiking enthusiast, or simply someone who enjoys a campfire under a starry sky, McCollum Lake State Forest Campground provides the backdrop for unforgettable outdoor memories.

Many locals appreciate the tranquility and the "back to basics" feel of McCollum Lake. It’s a chance to unplug and truly enjoy the simple pleasures of camping. While it offers a rustic experience, it still provides essential amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. This balance makes it highly appealing to those who love the outdoors but still appreciate some fundamental conveniences.

McCollum Lake State Forest Campground is conveniently located at 3520 Mc Collum Lake Rd, Curran, MI 48728, USA. This puts it within a reasonable driving distance for many residents across Michigan, particularly those in the Lower Peninsula seeking a Northern Michigan adventure. Curran, a small community, provides a charming gateway to this natural haven. The campground’s location on the western shoreline of the natural 224-acre McCollum Lake ensures easy access to water activities and scenic views.

Accessibility to the campground is generally straightforward, with well-maintained roads leading directly to the site. While it offers a secluded feel, it is not so remote as to be difficult to reach. This makes it an excellent choice for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation without the hassle of extensive travel. The area around Curran is also known for other outdoor attractions, including the Au Sable River and sections of the Huron National Forest, providing additional opportunities for exploration once you've set up camp. Its proximity to these natural landmarks further enhances its appeal as a central hub for outdoor activities in the region.

The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning reservations are not typically accepted. This encourages spontaneity and allows for flexible travel plans, though it's always a good idea to arrive early during peak season to secure a spot. The rustic nature of the campground also means you'll want to come prepared for a traditional camping experience, embracing the quiet and the natural environment.

Promotions or Special Offers:

As a state forest campground operating on a first-come, first-served basis, McCollum Lake State Forest Campground typically does not offer specific promotions or special offers in the same way a private campground might. The daily camping fee is set and consistent. However, the inherent value of camping in a state forest in Michigan lies in its affordability and accessibility. The cost per night is generally very reasonable, offering an economical way for locals to enjoy the natural beauty of the state. Visitors should always check the latest information regarding fees and any potential state-wide recreation passport requirements or discounts that might apply to state-managed properties. While not a "promotion" in the traditional sense, the low daily rate and the wealth of natural beauty accessible for that price are, in themselves, a significant value for Michigan residents. Any broad state-wide initiatives or discounts, such as those sometimes offered for military personnel or seniors at Michigan state parks, would be managed through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and would apply across eligible state-managed sites, including this campground. It's always a good idea to consult the Michigan DNR website for the most current information on camping fees and any potential statewide programs that could offer savings.

$4.00 for each bag of trash is ridiculous. It's a beautiful place but there should be trash cans for the campers

Beautiful scenery that is rarely crowded by others. Usually, you will see does and fawns peacefully tiptoe through the campground. Just be careful to watch out for black bears!

Very peaceful and perfect place to camp. Only thing is, $15 overnight,? Seems high. No other campers. Strange, this place used to be full.
