Owls Nest Campground About

For those of us in Kansas, whether we're traveling across the state or need a convenient place to stay near Junction City, finding the right campground can make all the difference. Owls Nest Campground, located right in Junction City, offers a practical and accessible option for RVers and campers looking for a straightforward, no-frills stay. While it might not be the sprawling holiday destination some envision, it serves a crucial purpose for many: a clean, functional, and well-located spot to rest and recharge before continuing your journey or attending to business in the area.

Many Kansans appreciate efficiency and directness, and Owls Nest Campground caters to just that. It's designed for convenience, particularly for those passing through on Interstate 70 or needing a close proximity to Fort Riley. It provides essential services without the extensive recreational facilities of a larger park, which can be a definite advantage for travelers who simply need a reliable place for the night. The management is noted for being accommodating, which can be a huge relief when unexpected travel changes occur, as evidenced by their willingness to provide a full refund in a specific instance where a site wasn't suitable.

It's important to set expectations clearly for Owls Nest Campground. It thrives as a practical solution. If you're a big rig owner (over 40ft), it's worth noting that maneuvering might be a bit tight, as some experienced RVers have pointed out. However, for standard RVs and those seeking an overnight stay, its location and core amenities are key. It's a place where you can pull in, hook up, get some rest, and be back on the road or at your destination efficiently. This functionality makes it a valuable asset for the Kansas traveling community, particularly for those who prioritize location and essential services over extensive resort-style amenities.

Location and Accessibility

Owls Nest Campground is ideally situated at 1912 Old 40 Hwy, Junction City, KS 66441, USA. This location is a significant advantage for travelers, as it places the campground right next to Interstate 70. This direct proximity to a major transcontinental highway makes it incredibly convenient for those passing through Kansas or seeking an easy-access overnight stop. The ability to quickly exit and re-enter the interstate is a key factor for many RVers who are primarily looking for a place to rest during a longer journey.

Being on Old 40 Highway also provides a straightforward route for navigation. While the directness to I-70 is a benefit, it's also worth noting that this proximity means there is a considerable amount of road noise, which is a common characteristic of campgrounds located near major highways. For visitors whose primary goal is a convenient overnight stay, this is often a reasonable trade-off for the excellent accessibility.

Furthermore, the campground's location in Junction City provides easy access to local amenities. Junction City offers various services, including gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and other necessities that travelers might require during their stay. Crucially, Owls Nest Campground is also well-positioned for anyone needing to be close to Fort Riley, a major U.S. Army installation. This makes it a practical option for military personnel, their families, and contractors who require short-term or temporary housing in the area. The combination of interstate access and proximity to Fort Riley defines the primary utility and accessibility of Owls Nest Campground for local users and travelers alike.

  • Essential Hookups: Provides the necessary water, electric, and sewer hookups that RVers require for a comfortable, if brief, stay.

We knew this RV park would be a tight fit, what we didnt realize was we had to pull in the wrong direction to get to our site do to the electric and water being on the opposite side. All the signs say one way, and in the emails they sent none of this was mentioned. They were very nice and did give us a full refund which was not expected. It seemed like a nice RV park besides not being big rig friendly. Would not recommend anything over 40ft. We are a 42ft 5th wheel with much experience and this was just too tight for comfort. We visited Owl's Nest Campground, no overnight stay.

Located right next to Interstate 70, there is a lot of road noise. This is suitable for one night's stay if you need to sleep before traveling onwards. It is not a holiday campground, but off-base housing for nearby Ft. Riley.

Great little RV Park. I was in a pull through site. All the hook ups were in easy access areas. Trees and site locations were protected from the KS winds, which was a big plus since I was there during a few storms with strong winds but the sites seemed protected from the worst winds.

Great spot with shaded sites. Should be enough free sky in each site for any starlink users! Staff have been great and park is quiet!
