Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground About
Hey there, Alabama adventurers and coastal campers! Are you dreaming of salty air, sandy toes, and the peaceful rhythm of island life? If you’re an RV enthusiast or a camping family seeking a memorable escape on the beautiful Alabama Gulf Coast, you've likely considered the unique charm of Dauphin Island. Today, we're going to dive into Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground, a destination that offers a distinctive experience right on this captivating barrier island. While every campground has its quirks, Pelican Nest provides a convenient base for exploring all that Dauphin Island has to offer.
Campgrounds across Alabama cater to a wide spectrum of outdoor enthusiasts, from rugged adventurers to those seeking a more amenity-rich "glamping" experience. Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground falls into the category of an RV resort and campground, aiming to provide a comfortable and accessible stay for both short-term visitors and those looking for a longer coastal retreat. The allure of camping, especially by the beach, is undeniable for many Alabamians, offering a chance to reconnect with nature, enjoy water activities, and create lasting memories with family and friends.
Dauphin Island, often referred to as the "Sunset Capital of Alabama," is a truly special place. It’s a tranquil barrier island known for its pristine beaches, abundant birdlife (it's a major stop for migratory birds), historical sites like Fort Gaines, and the fascinating Dauphin Island Sea Lab. Staying at an RV resort and campground like Pelican Nest means you're immersed in this unique environment, with opportunities for fishing, swimming, birdwatching, and simply unwinding in a relaxed, island setting. It’s a popular spot for locals looking for a quick getaway or a longer vacation without traveling too far from home.
Customer feedback for any establishment provides valuable insights, and Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground has received a mix of comments. One reviewer noted, "Location is great but they don’t keep the grounds up. Sand spurs are everywhere and thorns on bushes. We had to leave and we’re coming back. They said they would refund and instead charged us twice." Another mentioned, "The lady in the office has been trying to help but the man/grandson is rude. We truly want to stay there but so much needs to be improved and things that aren’t difficult to improve yet aren’t being addressed. No way we would stay here again after finding Homestead RV Community, a short drive but so worth it. Very professional and competent. Make the short drive and you won’t regret it." However, another customer had a more positive take: "This place is small but nice. Little pool little store. Nice staff but very far walk to beach. Good times though. We rode the ferry 27 dollars up 15 dollars back to go to golf shores. Nice lil museum. Quiet n pleasant." These reviews highlight both areas for potential improvement, such as ground maintenance and consistent customer service, as well as the positive aspects like a great location, small amenities, and a quiet atmosphere. This comprehensive view helps potential visitors set realistic expectations and make an informed decision.

The best folks around. All locals! Sites are well maintained, ice cream shop is delightful, pool is perfect. The lots not big but it's perfect!
Only visited the shop but the RV lot looked fine. Very compact and seemed like people were making friends at the little pool they have. As for the shop, it's small and doesn't have quite everything, but what they do have is very well priced. You can find items here for half as much as other shops on the island. For example, they had a crabber hat for like $16 where other shops had them for at least $25 and the quality seemed the same. Ice cream shop is okay. Got a shake and it wasn't anything special. Took a while to make too. A solid option if you want ice cream because you don't have many on the island.
You won’t find a better place to stay, right next door is a very good restaurant, I see some other people complaining about size of camp sights, I had 8 kids with me and two adults and we managed just fine. Two older boys had a tent set up and I had my 20 foot projector screen set up in front of the camper. The owners and staff were phenomenal. Ice cream, shaved ice and souvenirs were all very affordable. Swimming pool was very nice and clean. The walk to the beach is a shot from the camp ground with young kids, and would Imagine for any older people, but jump In your car and go to west end it’s a 4 minute drive and you park 50 foot from the water. If you like to fish there’s a bay right across the street and it’s full of fish. Out of all the private owned camp grounds I have stay at this has been by far the best one. Absolutely great place.
