Platter Flats Campground About
Howdy, fellow Oklahomans! If you're an outdoor enthusiast looking for a unique and expansive camping experience, especially if you have a love for horses and lakeside adventures, then Platter Flats Campground on the shores of Lake Texoma in Calera, OK, is a destination you absolutely need to explore. Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE), this campground stands out not just for its beautiful setting but also for its significant equestrian focus, making it a truly distinctive spot in our great state.
Platter Flats Campground is a well-established and highly regarded COE facility on the eastern side of Lake Texoma, within Oklahoma's scenic Cross Timbers Region. It offers a diverse range of camping options, with a total of 83 campsites designed to cater to various needs. This includes 26 family campsites with electrical and water hookups, alongside a substantial 37 equestrian sites with hookups and an additional 20 equestrian sites without hookups. This emphasis on equestrian camping highlights a key feature of the park, making it a premier destination for those who enjoy exploring trails on horseback.
The campground is celebrated for its clean, well-kept environment and its prime location directly on Lake Texoma. Many sites are beautifully shaded by mature trees, offering a welcome respite during warmer months, and some even provide stunning lake views. While it's known for its natural beauty and access to outdoor activities, it's worth being aware of common challenges that can arise in any large, public campground, such as wildlife (including feral cats, as noted in some reviews) and potential interactions with other campers. However, for those seeking extensive facilities, direct lake access, and a haven for equestrian pursuits, Platter Flats Campground presents a fantastic opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy the "Playground of the Southwest."

Customer Reviews
Came for a get away, we didn’t know we would have to contend with 30-40 cats in our campsite daily. It smells like a litter box. Spoke to the attendant on duty and was told that’s the way it is here you didn’t have to come here to camp. Very unprofessional lady who is working here. We have been camping here for 25+ years and I’ve never been dealt this way or spoken to this way by a state employee. We’re gonna go on an indoor camping trip five days early to get away from here..
Beautiful spot on Lake Texoma. Very clean and well kept.
Great place for the whole family!! Just a FYI the information that the showers are CLISED until 4/1 is not on the app when you reserve your site it does state that the season starts 3/1 but there is no showers and no water at campsites I still give them a 5+ rating it’s the best camping they still believe in keeping the trees for us old timers that live shade trees at our campsite unlike east burns!! THANK YOU PLATTER for a great stay will be back real soon!
Pretty lake & nice flat area to camp at. This is a really good camping area for everyone that has horses. The park manger comes by several times & so does the park ranger. Maybe that should make you feel safe? There are not any restrooms with lights or showers in certain areas during the winter months. Not a bad area but if you want more trees, i would go somewhere else.
I love coming up here, the sites by the water are really nice. The gravel sites are nice but share water hookups so the spigot is not in a convenient location so make sure you have a long hose or a full tank of fresh water before you setup.
