Situated along the scenic Meramec River and directly connected to the famous Meramec Caverns, this campground provides more than just a place to pitch a tent or park an RV; it’s a gateway to an array of exciting activities both above and below ground. While some aspects of the camping facilities have received mixed feedback, the overall experience of being immersed in a natural park with such diverse offerings makes it a destination worth considering for locals.
Missouri is known for its beautiful caves, winding rivers, and lush landscapes, making it a prime state for outdoor enthusiasts. Meramec Caverns Natural Campground taps into this rich natural heritage, providing an accessible way to explore one of the state's most iconic natural attractions. Whether you're planning a thrilling zip-lining adventure, a relaxing float trip down the river, or an educational journey into the depths of the earth, this campground serves as a convenient hub. Understanding the amenities, the environment, and the opportunities available at and around Meramec Caverns Natural Campground is key to planning a memorable Missouri getaway.
Meramec Caverns Natural Campground is uniquely located at River, House Springs, MO 63051, USA. This address places it directly within the expansive natural setting of Meramec Caverns and along the banks of the Meramec River. While the provided address specifies "House Springs," it's important for visitors to note that the campground is fundamentally part of the Meramec Caverns complex, which is closer to Stanton, Missouri, and easily accessible from Interstate 44.
The campground's direct adjacency to the Meramec Caverns entrance means that visitors have immediate walking access to the cave tours, gift shops, restaurants, and other attractions offered by Meramec Caverns. This is a significant advantage, allowing campers to fully immerse themselves in the site's primary attractions without needing to drive. The location by the river also provides direct access for water-based activities like canoeing, kayaking, and rafting, which are major draws to the area.
Accessibility by road is straightforward for Missouri residents. Meramec Caverns is located just off Interstate 44, a major east-west highway that connects St. Louis to Springfield and beyond. This makes the campground highly accessible for those traveling from various parts of Missouri. From St. Louis, it's roughly an hour's drive, and from Springfield, it's about a two-hour drive. The convenience of highway access means that even larger RVs can reach the campground with relative ease. However, as noted in some reviews, specific "primitive camping and electric sites" might be less defined or in areas that can become problematic with rain. While electric sites have designated poles, the general guidance to "pull your vehicle on the grass wherever and that's your site" for primitive areas suggests a more informal layout in some sections. Nevertheless, the prime location for accessing the famous caverns and river activities remains a significant highlight for this campground.

Primitive camping and electric sites are trash don't waste your money. The hotel might be ok we didn't get to see the inside. Bathroom/shower house...... if you didn't have it when you went in you might have it when you come out. Slime on the walls dog feces in the shower stalls bugs dead and alive swarming toilets clogged and the smell will make you vomit. I would rather use the Porta potties. Grounds are deceiving looks like good level ground with drain off till it rains. When you arrive you will be told pull your vehicle on the grass wherever and that's your site. Only marked spots are for electric that's a pole with a hook and rv sites.
May 28, 2024 · JoTa StreetI gave the cavens 5 stars. The campground however leaves a lot to be desired. Booked online for a water and electric site on the riverfront. We were literally in a parking lot and couldn't see the river due to overgrown foliage. One bathhouse for the entire campground, and they are in need of cleaning and updating. People just let their trash in the fire and charcoal rings. Luckily we only stayed one night as a stop over on our trip, so it wasn't a huge deal. I would not stay here for any significant amount of time, which is a shame because the caverns, gift shops, cafe, river float and zip line businesses seem to have it together. This could be an amazing getaway if the camping facilities were updated.
Jun 13, 2024 · Amy LynnWonderful 6-mile float experience. Staff were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and they were flexible with us when we had to push back our start time. Road construction ultimately delayed our start time, but the road looks great now, and we had plenty of time to spend on the river. Great looking campgrounds, most with bbq pit, clean, functional shower house with warm water and plenty of shopping amenities close-by. Plenty of beautiful spots along the river to stop and refresh during your float.
Jun 14, 2022 · Michael HughesI wish we could rate the different areas of this park because no doubt the staff and service would 5 plus stars if we could, The park for big rigs is more of a 3 star rating. They took an old parking lot, added water and electric for RVs. If your in a rig 28’ or smaller and one side slide or no slide it’s great. Still muddy and slightly unleveled. Since we were the only campers we had plenty of room but if this was during peak season it would have been very cramped. We enjoyed our overnight and would highly recommend the tours! If you found this review helpful please give it a thumbs up and follow us as we travel this beautiful country!
May 05, 2020 · JC & Tammy RV living (Living on the road!)Visited late August this year 2021, I don't suggest staying here. We booked 3 nights here and instantly regretted it, sure the caverns were fun but it was a knock off Branson feel. It was a big camping lot, and sand flees on the road/paths amongst the campsites. This place is made for giant weekend parties with at least 5 different music genres playing all at once. There are giant no swimming signs everywhere but they are "just for show" according to security and there to keep them from being liable for people's stupidity. The bathrooms are top 5 of worst campground bathrooms I've ever seen. You have to constantly push a button to have water come out for both the showers and sinks. There are no mirrors and the toilet paper is literally pad locked so it won't get stolen 😂. Did I mention there is only one single bath house for the entire site. Try sharing that with a bunch of party goers, with a flimsy curtain that is sheer on top, if they are 5'4 or taller they can see your top half. Also the entire place is in a valley so everything echoes, we could hear conversations from several spots down, and security is constantly driving around doing nothing and slamming car doors. The motel on the premises makes the place even more trashy. Pretty sure there were several drug deals happening over there, we could smell it.
