Travelers can typically find their way to Riverside St without much difficulty, whether coming from downtown Houston, Humble, or other surrounding communities. While it offers a sense of being "out in the sticks," essential services, supplies, and conveniences are never too far away in the sprawling Houston urban landscape. This balance of seclusion and accessibility makes Riverside Camping Houston a practical choice for local Texans seeking an authentic outdoor experience that doesn't require an extensive journey.
Riverside Camping Houston provides a straightforward and essential set of services, focusing on delivering a genuine camping experience rather than extensive resort-style amenities. The emphasis is on providing the basics for comfortable outdoor living.
- Beachside Camping: The primary service offered is access to beautiful beachside camping spots, allowing campers to set up their tents directly by the water.
- Tent Camping: The campground is primarily set up for tent camping, catering to those who prefer a traditional outdoor experience.
- Owner Support and Care: The owner, Maria, is known for her exceptional hospitality, checking in on campers, offering assistance, and generally ensuring guests feel welcome and cared for, even going so far as to bring coffee and oatmeal during cold weather.
- Affordable Rates: The park is noted for its competitive and affordable pricing, making outdoor adventures accessible to a wider range of budgets.
- Outdoor Space: Ample outdoor space is provided for campers to enjoy nature, relax, and have a sense of solitude.
- Pet-Friendly: While not explicitly stated in the reviews provided, most rustic campgrounds are generally pet-friendly. It's advisable to confirm their pet policy directly when booking.
It is important for potential campers to note that, as a rustic campground, Riverside Camping Houston does not offer certain amenities commonly found in more developed parks. Specifically, reviews mention:
- No Showers: There are no shower facilities available on site.
- No Sinks for Handwashing: Basic handwashing sinks are also not available, reinforcing the rustic nature of the accommodations.
Campers should plan accordingly and be prepared for a truly immersive outdoor experience with limited modern conveniences.
Riverside Camping Houston, despite its rustic nature, offers several distinct features and highlights that make it a memorable and appealing destination for a specific type of camper.
- Exceptional Owner Hospitality: The standout feature is undoubtedly the warmth and attentiveness of the owner, Maria. Her personal touch, willingness to check on campers, and acts of kindness (like bringing coffee in cold weather) create a uniquely welcoming and safe environment.
- Beautiful, Rustic Beachside Setting: The campground boasts "beautiful park and great beachside camping," offering a scenic backdrop for your outdoor adventure. It embraces a more natural, less manicured appeal, ideal for those who love being immersed in the outdoors.
- Affordable Price Point: Guests consistently note that "for the price you can't beat it," making it a budget-friendly option for camping near Houston. This affordability is a significant draw for many.
- Sense of Solitude and Being "Alone": For campers who appreciate peace and quiet, and the feeling of being truly "one with nature," the "little out of the way" location and rustic accommodations provide that desired sense of solitude.
- High Sense of Safety: Despite its rustic nature, campers report feeling "very safe" here, even when camping alone, which speaks volumes about the overall environment and the owner's presence. This contrasts positively with concerns some might have about urban motels.
- Weathering the Elements: The park allows for genuine outdoor experiences, including weathering various weather conditions, catering to resilient campers who embrace the full spectrum of nature.
It's also important to acknowledge a specific feature mentioned in reviews:
- Train Noise: Be aware that the campground is subject to noise from a passing train, described as "very noisy at night with the train passing (what felt like every hour on the hour)." Campers should be prepared for this potential disturbance.
Given the rustic and straightforward nature of Riverside Camping Houston, explicit "promotions" in the traditional sense might not be as common as with larger, more amenity-rich campgrounds. However, its core appeal lies in its inherent affordability. The primary "special offer" is its consistently low price point for a camping experience so close to a major city like Houston.
- Affordable Per-Person Pricing: The pricing structure is noted as being "25 per person," which, while surprising to some accustomed to per-tent rates, still represents a highly competitive price point for a night of camping, especially compared to the cost of motels in the area.
- Value for Rustic Experience: The excellent value for money is a recurring theme, with reviewers stating, "For the price you can't beat it." This suggests that the baseline pricing is already considered a special offer in itself for the experience provided.
It is crucial to clarify the pricing structure directly with Riverside Camping Houston before your visit, as one review noted that the "Price online is not correct. It is 25 per person not per tent." Always confirm the current rates and any potential package deals by contacting them via phone. While they might not have seasonal discounts or loyalty programs typical of larger parks, their commitment to affordability is a constant.

Customer Reviews
Beautiful park and great beachside camping. Price online is not correct. It is 25 per person not per tent which is steep considering there are no showers or sinks to even wash your hands. It is very noisy at night with the train passing (what felt like every hour on the hour). The owner was very nice and helpful.
I have camped here a few times. The owner, Maria, is awesome. The first time was for 3 days and unfortunately it's was 20° and snowing. I was in my tent and she made it a point to check up on me several times. Even bringing me coffee and oatmeal one morning! She really made me feel welcomed. The rains have reeked havoc this time but I weathered the storm and it's turned out to be a really nice weekend. Maria remembered me and has stopped by a few times to check in on me. It's a little out of the way and the accomodations are rustic but I love the outdoors and being alone. For the price you can't beat it. Personally I feel much safer out here than in some of the Humble/Houston motels and are twice the cost of being one with nature!!
Awesome spot On the river. I'm sure it's full of locals in the summer. Lucky place to have. Has some 110 plug-in 's the people who run it are really laid back. Nothing seemed like a big deal. Do your part and they do theirs. Was a little hard to find for someone not from there. It's basically the jet ski rental place if you follow Google. Hurricanes have done some damage as usual. Only thing missing was hot water was under construction. Wich is a good thing I guess. Highly recommend. Good price and best of all out of Houstons normal B.S. 👍
You have to pay 10 bucks per person. What a rip off!
It was great. The staff is fantastic 👏 👌
