Introduction / Overview
Sebasticook Lake Campground, located in the heart of Central Maine in Newport, offers a full-service RV park and camping experience set along the beautiful shores of Sebasticook Lake. This 30-acre destination is well-established as a family-friendly retreat, blending modern conveniences with a distinctly rustic, nostalgic charm. With 67 sites, including RV spots, tent areas, and lakeside cottages, it caters to a wide variety of Maine adventurers, from those seeking a quick weekend escape to long-term seasonal residents.
The campground operates primarily as a base for enjoying one of the region's best bass fishing lakes and embracing the simplicity of lake life. While some transient visitors have noted challenges with site sizes and traffic, the overall atmosphere, particularly among the significant seasonal and long-term community, is consistently described as "friendly and kind," with "immaculate" facilities and a wonderful, calm setting. The presence of owners noted as "kind and absolutely just down to earth" suggests a deeply personal, family-run operation that strives to maintain a welcoming environment, despite the challenges of an older park structure.
Location and Accessibility
Sebasticook Lake Campground is situated at 52 Tent Village Rd, Newport, ME 04953, USA. This location is a major asset for Maine residents, as Newport is often referred to as 'The Crossroads of Maine,' providing easy access to much of the state.
The camp’s location on Sebasticook Lake means guests are right on the water, providing excellent opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming. Furthermore, its Central Maine position offers unparalleled accessibility to diverse regional attractions:
A notable point regarding accessibility is the internal road network. Some reviews mention the interior roads are "so very narrow" and may present a challenge for maneuvering larger RVs and campers (even as small as 20ft) around sharp corners. Prospective visitors with big rigs should call ahead to discuss site options and navigation.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
Sebasticook Lake Campground is uniquely positioned to serve the Maine resident looking for a blend of convenience and community. For those in Central or Southern Maine, its location in Newport minimizes travel time while maximizing vacation time. It is particularly suitable for families seeking a predictable, amenity-rich environment where children can thrive—from the spotlessly clean pool to the game room and playground. While prospective RV campers should heed the warnings about the interior road tightness and potential lack of privacy in some transient sites, the campground's strength lies in its strong seasonal renter base. This long-term community offers a true sense of belonging and a restful, calm setting that many Mainers seek in their summer retreat—a reliable 'camp' experience without the personal property ownership hassles, coupled with some of the best bass fishing the state has to offer.

I don't usually leave reviews but want to save some one the trouble! As soon as we arrived, the roads were so very narrow! We BARELY made it around a sharp corner into our site & we only have a 20ft camper! The "picnic table" which was half rotted and mismarked with the wrong campsite number. We almost left after the hassle of getting into the site. The owners when we met them previously promised "wooded" sites that were "not close together" YEAH RIGHT! It was essentially an RV parking lot. No trees in our site at all. There was a road on either side of our site so it was incessant foot traffic of dogs, kids, people, and golf carts. Our dog is a puppy and gets very excited over other dogs, it was a constant fight to keep him controlled and calm with the constant traffic on either side. We couldn't relax at all! There was ZERO privacy in our site. Our neighbors camper was within 12 ft of our camper (photo attached). Our view on both sides of us was our neighbors camper. We were so miserable we left a day early, the owner showed no concern for why we left early, didn't ask, didn't care I guess. Such a massive disappointment we were so excited to camp here. I needed a vacation from my vacation. The owners treated us nicely but this place is SO not what we expected or what we were told! Will never EVER return!
Sep 01, 2025 · Redneck CoupleSo after a weary 1900 miles and spending a week at an amazing motel hotel in Newport I came out here. The couple are so kind and absolutely just down to earth and extremely lovely. The campground is definitely old the cabins by the lake are definitely circulation 1920s 1930s, but the rustic charm is just wonderful , reminds me a lot of the old cabins around the lakes. I grew up around an upper state New York. The campground is immaculate, bathrooms and shower spotless plenty of hot water. The pool is spotless. It’s about 97% families here some long-term seasonal renters that are just wonderful . Everybody is so friendly and kind ,so glad I found this place. It has been restful and calm.☺️ It is just what this weary roving Scotsman needed
Aug 13, 2024 · Scott DrummSoviet style camping! Only missing razor wire and armed guards! Level 3 Karen's! No one younger then 60 allowed! I came to vist a friend after being cut off by a golf cart, I had to check in no big deal. After getting grilled about how I know my friend, the interrogation didn't stop it was turned on me, page of questions, (wife in the car, names ect ect) I made comment about intense/depth of questions the owner stated police call all the time for criminals in the camp ground asking whos there and State campground inspectors......I find this far fetched, the lady went on to Bragg how much tighter security was during covid..... after all that they wanted $10 to vist my friends for 30-45 mins nope..... I was very uncomfortable with the information they asked very annoyed with the fee..... picture of the camp ground behind me were it belongs. Look at your reviews....over haul the way you do things.....
Jul 06, 2025 · Ben VawserFriendly staff, great location, beautiful lake. Reading some of these reviews baffles me because people are acting like they're staying at a 5 star hotel complaining about cabins being dirty. We are CAMPING here. The whole point is to be in nature which news flash, is dirty😂. As for people saying that the staff is rude this could not be further from the truth, I'm 19 years old and the lady in the office was very kind about telling me about the campground and things to do around town. She even let me pick whatever tent site I wanted since I'm the only one staying in a tent this weekend. The only thing that was unpleasant was the train that came through at 2am but I knew what I signed up for when I booked a campground that is next to train tracks. Great campground, and very affordable, would definitely recommend staying here.
Jun 04, 2025 · Brady PlanteI've actually stayed in a cabin at this campground when I was a little girl. Close to 50 years ago!! The original cabins are still standing and rented but unfortunately look to be in pretty rough shape. Some t l c is definitely needed. We had a perfect campsite on the water. Was beautiful. The bathrooms were immaculate. So clean and fresh. The grounds appeared to be clean and tended. The staff were friendly and courteous. Would definitely go back
