Stevens Gap RV Park About
For those of us in Oklahoma who cherish our RV adventures, finding the perfect spot to set up camp can make or break a trip. The Broken Bow area, with its stunning natural beauty and proximity to Beavers Bend State Park, is a hugely popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Among the various accommodation options in this sought-after region is Stevens Gap RV Park. When planning a local getaway, it's always helpful to have a clear and factual understanding of what to expect from a destination, and RV parks are no exception.
This article aims to provide an honest and informative overview of Stevens Gap RV Park for our fellow Oklahomans. We will explore its location, what services are generally offered, and important features, all while incorporating direct feedback from recent visitors. Our goal is to give you a balanced perspective, highlighting both potential positives and crucial considerations, so you can make the most informed decision when planning your next RV trip to the beautiful Broken Bow area. Whether you're a seasoned RVer or looking to book a rental, understanding the realities on the ground is key to a successful and enjoyable outdoor experience in Oklahoma.
Stevens Gap RV Park is an RV park located in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, a region widely known for its natural beauty, particularly around Broken Bow Lake and Beavers Bend State Park. As an RV park, its fundamental purpose is to provide sites for recreational vehicles, offering a base for visitors exploring the popular tourist destination. The park also appears to offer rental accommodations, as indicated by a review mentioning a "rental we stayed in."
However, customer feedback for Stevens Gap RV Park reveals significant concerns regarding maintenance, service delivery, and the condition of facilities. Reviews describe the park as "very overgrown, not maintained," with "fire pits and grills... in a mess" and "allot of pieces of trash scattered due to lack of maintenance." A major point of contention is the discrepancy between reservation requests and actual site assignments, with one visitor noting they "made reservations over 3 months in advance for a secluded rv spot with water front" but were instead given a spot "next to heavy highway traffic and no water." Furthermore, issues with rental unit cleanliness were raised, despite a "charged an automatic $150.00 cleaning fee," with complaints about "area rugs... full of crumbs" and a refrigerator with "old dried food." The lack of on-site staff to address issues ("no one on site to discuss issues with") is also a recurring theme. The park is even critically referred to as "the worst kept state park we have ever been in," although it's important to note that whether it is officially a state park or privately operated is not explicitly stated in the provided snippets. This overview suggests that potential visitors should approach Stevens Gap RV Park with informed expectations, particularly concerning maintenance and direct customer support.
Stevens Gap RV Park is located at 381 Stevens Gap Rd, Broken Bow, OK 74728, USA. This places the park squarely within the highly sought-after Broken Bow area of southeastern Oklahoma, renowned for its proximity to Broken Bow Lake and Beavers Bend State Park. The address itself suggests a location that aims to be convenient for visitors looking to access the region's outdoor attractions.
However, while the geographical location is desirable for accessing the broader Broken Bow area, accessibility and the immediate environment around the park itself present some significant considerations based on customer feedback. A primary concern is the proximity to traffic noise. One review explicitly states that a site was given "next to heavy highway traffic," indicating that some areas within the park are directly impacted by road noise, potentially diminishing the peaceful outdoor experience many RVers seek.
Another point related to accessibility and the park's immediate environment is the overall maintenance of the grounds. The park was described as "very overgrown, not maintained." This suggests that while the physical address places it in a scenic region, the immediate surroundings within the park itself might not offer the manicured or pristine appearance some visitors expect from an RV park. Furthermore, the lack of on-site personnel ("no one on site to discuss issues with") implies that while the location is fixed, immediate human assistance or guidance upon arrival or during a stay might be limited. This can impact the ease of settling in or resolving any issues that arise, making the "accessibility" of direct support a relevant factor in the overall experience. Potential visitors should weigh the regional convenience against these internal park conditions.
Based on the customer reviews, Stevens Gap RV Park is understood to offer the following services, though with significant caveats regarding their delivery and maintenance:
-
RV Spots/Lots: The primary service is providing sites for recreational vehicles. Reviews mention "lots were set up well," indicating the basic layout of the sites might be functional. However, the quality of the sites can vary significantly, with one guest receiving a spot "next to heavy highway traffic and no water" despite reserving a "secluded rv spot with water front." This suggests that site allocation may not always match reservations or expectations.
-
Water Hookups: Water access is implied by the mention of a requested "water front" spot and a subsequent complaint about "no water" at the assigned site. This indicates that water hookups are intended to be a service, though their availability and functionality at specific sites may be an issue.
-
Fire Pits and Grills: These amenities are present within the park, serving as recreational facilities. However, reviews note they were "in a mess," indicating a lack of maintenance and cleanliness.
-
Rental Accommodations: The park also offers rental units, as one review states, "The rental we stayed in charged an automatic $150.00 cleaning fee." This expands the type of lodging options available beyond just RV sites.
-
Cleaning Services for Rentals: An automatic cleaning fee of $150.00 is charged for rental units. However, customer feedback suggests that the actual cleanliness of the rentals does not always reflect this charge, with complaints about "area rugs... full of crumbs" and a refrigerator with "old dried food on the inside."
Notably, the provided information also highlights a significant lack of direct, on-site customer service, with visitors stating "no one on site to discuss issues with." This suggests that while services are offered, the support structure for addressing problems or inquiries during a stay is severely limited or non-existent.
Based on the provided customer reviews, the "features" and "highlights" of Stevens Gap RV Park are largely presented through the lens of visitor experiences, which lean heavily towards concerns rather than positive attributes.
-
Basic RV Lot Setup (with caveats): One review noted that "The lots were set up well," implying that the fundamental layout and design of the individual RV sites might be functional in terms of space or arrangement. However, this positive aspect is immediately overshadowed by issues such as not receiving the reserved "secluded rv spot with water front" and instead being placed "next to heavy highway traffic and no water." This highlights a significant inconsistency in site delivery versus reservation expectations.
-
Proximity to Highway Traffic (Negative Feature): The close proximity to "heavy highway traffic" is explicitly mentioned as a negative feature, resulting in loud noise, even at night. This severely impacts the tranquility typically sought in an outdoor RV park setting.
-
Lack of Maintenance (Major Negative Feature): A pervasive issue highlighted is the severe lack of maintenance across the park. Descriptions include the park being "very overgrown, not maintained," and "fire pits and grills were in a mess." Furthermore, "allot of pieces of trash scattered" due to this neglect significantly detracts from the park's appeal and cleanliness.
-
Unclean Rental Units (Major Negative Feature): For those considering rental accommodations, a key negative feature is the poor cleanliness of the units despite a hefty "automatic $150.00 cleaning fee." Specific complaints include "area rugs... full of crumbs," a refrigerator with "old dried food on the inside," and "blinds were rigged to allow outside views of the bedrooms." This indicates a significant lapse in hygiene and privacy for rental guests.
-
Absence of On-Site Staff (Negative Operational Feature): A critical operational feature, or rather the lack thereof, is the absence of "no one on site to discuss issues with." This means visitors facing problems, whether with their site, amenities, or rental, have no immediate recourse or support, leading to frustration and unresolved issues.
In summary, while the park theoretically offers RV lots and rentals, the overwhelming feedback points to significant deficiencies in maintenance, adherence to reservations, cleanliness, and on-site customer service, making these more prominent "features" in the overall visitor experience.
Based on the provided customer reviews and typical public information, there are no specific promotions or special offers advertised for Stevens Gap RV Park. The feedback received primarily focuses on operational and maintenance concerns, rather than pricing or promotional deals.
In general, RV parks might offer discounts for extended stays (weekly, monthly), off-season rates, or affiliations with RV clubs (e.g., Good Sam Club, Passport America). However, without specific mention in the provided data, it is impossible to confirm any such offers for Stevens Gap RV Park. Given the significant concerns raised by past customers regarding the park's condition and management, any potential visitor interested in staying at Stevens Gap RV Park would be well-advised to contact them directly to inquire about current rates, availability, and any promotions they might have. This direct communication would also serve as an opportunity to ask specific questions about the condition of sites and facilities, which seems prudent given the previous customer experiences.

Given the feedback from past visitors about a "lack of maintenance" and "no one on site to discuss issues with," it is particularly important for prospective guests to attempt to contact the park directly via phone before making plans or reservations. This would allow you to confirm current conditions, ask specific questions about site availability and features (especially concerning waterfront or noise levels), and clarify expectations, helping you make the most informed decision for your trip to the Broken Bow area.
For us Oklahomans, exploring our own state's natural beauty is a cherished pastime, and the Broken Bow area, with its stunning lake and forests, is undoubtedly a prime destination. When considering an RV park in this popular region, such as Stevens Gap RV Park, it's crucial to approach with realistic expectations based on available information, particularly from fellow local users.
Based on current public feedback, Stevens Gap RV Park presents a mixed bag for local RVers. While its location on Stevens Gap Road in Broken Bow is geographically convenient for accessing the broader attractions of Broken Bow Lake and Beavers Bend State Park, the experiences shared by recent visitors highlight significant challenges that potential guests should carefully consider.
The consistent reports of the park being "very overgrown, not maintained," along with issues of trash and unkempt amenities like fire pits and grills, suggest that the park's current condition may not meet the expectations of cleanliness and upkeep that many Oklahomans seek in a relaxing outdoor environment. Furthermore, the critical feedback regarding rental unit cleanliness, despite a mandatory cleaning fee, is a substantial concern for those considering non-RV accommodations.
Perhaps the most critical point for local visitors is the reported lack of on-site staff. For many Oklahomans, the ability to address issues or receive immediate assistance during their stay is a key component of a positive RV park experience. The absence of this direct support, combined with discrepancies between reservations and actual site assignments (e.g., expecting waterfront but getting a noisy highway-adjacent spot), could lead to significant frustration.
In conclusion, while Stevens Gap RV Park is situated in a desirable area of Oklahoma, its current operational and maintenance issues, as described by customers, make it a destination that locals should approach with caution. It is highly advisable to contact the park directly using the provided phone numbers (580) 212-9270 or +1 580-212-9270 well in advance to clarify site conditions, available amenities, and the level of on-site support before committing to a stay. For many Oklahomans, seeking alternative, more consistently reviewed RV parks in the Broken Bow area might ensure a more enjoyable and hassle-free outdoor escape.
Customer Reviews
I made reservations over 3 months in advance for a secluded rv spot with water front. Instead, we were given a spot next to heavy highway traffic and no water. The lots were set up well. However, the park was very overgrown, not maintained and no one on site to discuss issues with. Fire pits and grills were in a mess and allot of pieces of trash scattered due to lack of maintenance. This is the worst kept state park we have ever been in.
The rental we stayed in charged an automatic $150.00 cleaning fee. The area rugs were full of crumbs, the refrigerator had old dried food on the inside. Blinds were rigged to allow outside views of the bedrooms. Will not recommend at all!
Great, simple facility. The standout service from Ronda is the best customer service I've had so far at an RV Park, I cannot reccomed more highly!
Loved our camping experience!
