Sun Outdoors Kensington Valley About
For RV enthusiasts across Michigan, finding the perfect park to set up camp can make all the difference in a memorable getaway. Sun Outdoors Kensington Valley, located in New Hudson, offers itself as an option for those looking to explore the natural beauty of Southeast Michigan from the comfort of their recreational vehicle. Situated in a picturesque area dotted with mature trees and four distinct lakes, this RV park aims to provide a retreat for both short-term visitors and those seeking a more seasonal stay. While it operates under the broader "Sun Outdoors" brand, it's important for Michigan locals to understand the specific characteristics and offerings of this particular location to ensure it aligns with their expectations for an RV adventure.
Sun Outdoors Kensington Valley is located at 25800 Haas Rd, New Hudson, MI 48165, USA. This address places it squarely within Lyon Township, part of Oakland County, Michigan. For Michigan residents, the location offers a blend of natural appeal and accessibility to metropolitan areas. New Hudson is situated roughly equidistant from Ann Arbor, Brighton, and Novi, providing convenient access to a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. The park's setting is described as "a beautiful area, with lots of mature trees, open grass areas and 4 lakes," promising a scenic backdrop for your stay. However, it's important for potential visitors to note that access to the park itself involves traveling down "bumpy dirt roads," which some visitors have found less than ideal. While the area offers a sense of being away from the immediate urban bustle, its proximity to major expressways like I-96 ensures that longer journeys to Detroit, Lansing, or other parts of Michigan are relatively straightforward. This makes Sun Outdoors Kensington Valley a geographically convenient option for many Michiganders looking for an RV escape.
Based on the available public information and common offerings of RV parks, Sun Outdoors Kensington Valley provides several key services to its guests, catering to various types of RVers.
- RV Site Rentals: The primary service includes the rental of RV sites, which likely offer different configurations such as pull-thru and back-in options, and vary in size and amenities. Some sites are noted to be "decent size, but dirt and gravel."
- Utility Hookups: Standard RV park services would include essential utility hookups for RVs, such as electrical (typically 30/50 amp), water, and sewer connections at individual sites.
- Security/Guard Station: The presence of "guys at the guard station" indicates a focus on controlled access and security for the community, providing a level of peace of mind for residents.
- On-Site Staff: "Office staff" and "park workers" are mentioned, implying that there are personnel available on-site for check-in, inquiries, and general assistance.
- Common Area Maintenance: While specific conditions may vary, the park is expected to provide maintenance for its common areas, including roads (even if dirt) and shared green spaces, to ensure general usability.
- Seasonal Sites: The mention of a "large portion of permanent park models throughout the park" suggests that Sun Outdoors Kensington Valley caters to both transient RVers and those looking for seasonal or long-term site rentals, offering a more stable community feel for extended stays.
Sun Outdoors Kensington Valley offers several features and highlights that contribute to its appeal as an RV destination, especially for those who appreciate a natural, lakeside setting.

- Pet-Friendly (Inferred): While not explicitly stated, most modern RV parks are pet-friendly, and the open grass areas would generally accommodate pets, enhancing the experience for those traveling with their furry companions.
- Proximity to Kensington Metropark: While the park itself is noted to have a "bumpy dirt road" for access and lacks "safe bike access to the nice paved bike trail, about 3 miles away, without riding down more bumpy dirt roads or a busy main road," its general vicinity to the popular Kensington Metropark (which features paved trails and abundant recreational opportunities) could be a long-term draw for those willing to drive.

Customer Reviews
I have no idea how this rv park was able to become a Sun Outdoors. It is not the typical Sun Outdoors resort that we have previously visited. No pool, bumpy dirt streets, lawns were not well maintained and loaded with weeds. Our pull thru site was decent size, but dirt and gravel. The park itself is in a beautiful area, with lots of mature trees, open grass areas and 4 lakes, however, it isn't in a good location due to the bumpy dirt road you have to travel just to reach the park. No 2 hole golf course as advertised. When we inquired, the staff indicated they don't have any flags in yet. We walked the golf course area to check it out, and found the grass was way too long to play, and could not find anything close to a tee box, or a green area with a hole. I understand it's not going to be even close to a regular golf course, but dont advertise what you dont have. They have no safe bike access to the nice paved bike trail, about 3 miles away, without riding down more bumpy dirt roads or a busy main road. The speed limit is 5.5 mph. When checking in, the clerk pointed this out, but also said it's difficult to drive that slow, so just keep it down. We drove about 10 to 12 mph thru the park, which is pretty slow, using caution around pedestrians and people fishing along the road. We were literally yelled at by both other campers and park workers to slow it down to 5 mph! Most of the office staff was very friendly. The guys at the guard station were cranky every time we drove thru. Others may be satisfied here if they are looking for a standard campground. Definitely not Sun Outdoors quality. Keep in mind that the park has a large portion of permanent park models throughout the park as well.
Absolutely disappointed in this campground and the employees. We have tried to stay here several times and there is always something extreme that happens. We came this year for the Halloween events and we are leaving extremely upset. We were told a haunted hayride would happen between 7-9 with the first 2 rides being small child friendly. We got into line at about 7:45 and waited only to be turned away and told they were no longer going to run the tractors. We tried to talk with the people working and they were unsympathetic to say the least. There was absolutely no organization. I can understand cutting the line off at 9 and not allowing people to enter at that point but for people to spend their evening waiting over an hour for an advertised event, to be turned away with little consideration is astounding. We were walking past kids literally crying as they were walking back to their sites. The customer service at this place was absolutely terrible. We have tried to give this place multiple tries and it is always a disappointment. You can go to jellystone for the same price and have events every hour with amazing customer service. We will not be returning and hope others will reconsider staying and getting seasonal sites until management is changed.
Not for us, or any short stay campers. This place is full of full timers. It gave off trailer park vibes with many of the lots filled with peoples trash. My camper and truck now both need a full wash after taking the pothole filled mile long drive down Haas road. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money here if you're looking for an enjoyable weekend at a nice camp ground, this is not it.
We just spend 4 nights at this campground. A very nice park with 5 lakes to pick from. The lot we had D2 and D3 large lots part shade part sun. My issue with these sites and actually the park in whole is the dust. It was a dry 4 days no rain until the last night before leaving. The dust from the cars was terrible, the speed of the cars and golf carts made the dust terrible to try and eat and sit outside. We tried asking people to slow down but got a few choice words in return. I went to the park asking if anything they could do nothing. Even if water would have been put down a few times may have helped some on the main roads. They need to add gravel or even more speed bumps to slow everyone down and keep the dust down. I have been a camper for over 40 years so I am not afraid to get dirty this was in excess for sure. They have beautiful newer bathrooms and very clean. Was a great trip just will be much more careful what street I pick to camp on next time.
We canceled our reservation and forfeited our deposit. The weekend before our planned camping trip we drove through the park and decided it was not what we had expected. The Kensington Valley website portrays a very desirable, family oriented, camping "resort" with many amenities and activities for children. The reality is that the park is anything but that. We caution those considering camping there to visit the park before making reservations. The fees to camp there are extremely high and the park is absolutely are not worth what they are charging.
