Introduction / Overview
For Connecticut families seeking a nearby recreational escape that blends the fun of a private beach club with the community feel of a traditional campground, Sun Valley Beach Club in Stafford Springs stands as a truly unique destination. Operating as a family-owned and operated private beach club and campground since 1964, Sun Valley has become a multi-generational favorite in the Northern Connecticut area. It is a year-round facility primarily catering to seasonal campers, but it also welcomes guests to its extensive amenities, particularly the signature beach club features.
This destination is less of a rustic, state-park-style campsite and more of a lively, amenity-rich recreational center. It is nestled in a picturesque valley, centered around a 10-acre spring-fed lake and 2,000 feet of white sandy beach area. While traditional camping remains a core offering, the resort atmosphere is amplified by the sheer volume of activities and on-site features, including large water slides, diving boards, and a full-service restaurant and banquet hall. It's a busy, active community—a place where you might see a wedding reception, a family cookout, and kids enjoying the slides all in the same afternoon. While some aspects, such as maintenance in older facilities, have been noted in community feedback, the focus on fun, the volume of activities, and the friendly staff contribute to its enduring appeal as a lively spot for Connecticut locals.

It's not a beach club. It's a campground that's not very well run at that. The "beach" is more like a small river pond with brown water. There are life guard on duty signs and no life guards on duty. The bathrooms are something out of a horror movie. The manager at the main gate was rude to the guests and should consider changing out of the hospitality business. They had some nice kid activities which were fun so I'm giving it 2 stars.
Aug 02, 2025 · T KReally fun spot! We went as a guest. Huge slides into the water. Docks & diving boards. Bathrooms were kinda gross. People were lighting fire works off. There was a wedding happening. Golf carts riding everywhere. A lot was happening at once.
