The park's atmosphere is particularly lively during the peak summer months, transforming into a bustling hub of activity where families can create lasting memories.
However, prospective campers should be aware of certain characteristics that define The Lake Campground experience. It is an older park, and some equipment may appear dated, with facilities like bathrooms needing coins for showers. -
Lake Access and Recreation: A primary service is access to the on-site lake, which is highlighted as a "blast for the kids." This implies opportunities for swimming, potentially paddle boating, or other non-motorized water activities directly within the campground, though specific amenities should be confirmed.
-
Restrooms/Bathhouses: The campground provides bathhouses, though reviews indicate they may feature "vault toilets" and that showers require payment (e.g., a quarter to use the shower). This is an important detail for prospective campers to note.
-
Seasonal and Traveler Sites: The park caters significantly to "seasonal renters" but also reserves a limited number of "spots for travelers staying just a few nights," offering flexibility for different camping needs.
-

-
Family-Oriented Atmosphere: The park is "geared to families" and is likely to offer a more vibrant and active atmosphere during peak summer months, making it suitable for those with children looking for a lively environment.
-
Pet Restrictions: It is important to note that the campground has "pet restrictions" which some visitors found challenging. Campers planning to bring pets should inquire about these specific rules and potential additional fees or limitations prior to booking.
-
On-Site Lake for Kids' Fun: The presence of the lake is a major highlight, consistently described as a "blast for the kids." This feature offers a central point for enjoyment and aquatic recreation within the campground, making it highly appealing for families.
-
Nice and Wide Campsites: Campers appreciate the ample space provided at individual sites, offering comfort and ease of maneuvering, especially for RVs and trailers. This contributes to a less crowded feel compared to some other campgrounds.
-

Specific, publicly advertised promotions or special offers for The Lake Campground are not provided in the available customer reviews. As a privately operated campground, its pricing and any promotional activities would be managed directly by the park.
However, based on general practices within the camping industry and the campground's reported catering to seasonal renters, potential promotions or considerations that prospective campers might inquire about could include:
-
Seasonal Rental Discounts: Given that the park "caters to seasonal renters," they very likely offer competitive rates and special terms for full-season commitments compared to nightly or weekly stays. This would be a major "promotion" for loyal, long-term campers.
-
Off-Peak Season Rates: Many campgrounds offer reduced rates during their shoulder seasons (e.g., spring before Memorial Day, or fall after Labor Day) when demand is lower. The reviews suggest the park is "almost deserted after Labor Day," which could indicate a period of lower rates.
-
Weekly or Monthly Discounts: For short-term travelers, booking for a full week or month might come with a discounted rate compared to individual nightly fees.
-
Holiday Weekend Premiums: Conversely, expect higher rates during popular holiday weekends, as is common across most campgrounds.
Given the mixed reviews regarding perceived value for money ($60 a night mentioned, with some facilities described as primitive), it is particularly important for prospective campers to contact The Lake Campground directly to confirm current rates, what is included in the site fee, and any available promotions. This will help manage expectations regarding facilities and cost. Direct communication via phone is the best method to get the most accurate and up-to-date information.

For Ohio locals, The Lake Campground in Norton presents a particularly suitable option, especially for families and those considering seasonal camping, though it comes with specific considerations. Its primary appeal lies in its convenient Northeast Ohio location, making it an accessible and relatively short drive for residents of Akron, Cleveland, Canton, and surrounding areas. This proximity allows for easy weekend getaways or frequent visits throughout the summer, maximizing time spent enjoying the outdoors without extensive travel.
The highlight of the "lake" itself, described as a "blast for the kids," is a significant draw for local families. Having on-site water recreation makes it an ideal spot for children to burn off energy and enjoy classic summer fun, creating memorable experiences close to home. The "nice and wide" sites also cater to families, providing ample space for setting up camp and for children to play.
While the campground is noted to be "older" and some facilities might be "dated" (e.g., coin-operated showers, vault toilets), it caters heavily to "seasonal renters," which can foster a consistent and familiar community atmosphere for those who choose to return year after year. For locals looking for a regular summer base, this aspect can be very appealing, offering a sense of belonging and familiarity that many seek in a seasonal campground.
However, locals should manage their expectations regarding amenities if they are accustomed to more modern or resort-style campgrounds, particularly if visiting outside the peak summer season when facilities may be "locked up and shut down." Despite these points, for Ohio families prioritizing lakeside fun and a community-oriented seasonal experience in a convenient location, The Lake Campground offers a distinct and potentially rewarding option for their camping adventures.
Customer Reviews
Overall a mixed experience. The sites are nice and wide. The lake was a blast for the kids even though rain kicked up a lot of algae. The pet restrictions made it hard to enjoy camping with the dogs. Also, having to pay a quarter to use the shower was an unexpected frustration. Not sure why I had to pay for basic amenities after already paying the site fee. The grounds are kept up pretty well even if some of the equipment is looking dated.
We stayed here 9/6 and 9/7/2023. This park caters to seasonal renters, but saves a few spots for travelers staying just a few nights. It's geared to families and was almost deserted after Labor Day. Lots of empty trailers without occupants. The park is older and needs updating. The bathrooms have vault toilets and the shower is very primitive. Everything else was locked up and shut down. For $60 a night, we expected better facilities. Our site had trash and there was trash around the bathouse. I'm sure this is a fun place for kids in the summer, but it wasn't our cup of tea.
My wife and I are members at the Lake Campground, and we have 5 children that just love it. I think the owners do a great job at making it safe and fun for all. Thank you Kris and Amy for holding people accountable for their actions, It makes for a nice peaceful place for my family.
My family and a couple other of our family members went here this weekend. After growing up here was ready to give it a try for a weekend. Since I had been there last years ago the campground was sold to different owners. The campground needs a lot of work and updating. The couple weekend spots they have are not to nice and they are way overpriced like 60+ a night. We go to campgrounds that are full hookup with concrete pads for our camper and pay less than we did here. On top of that the owners were micromanaging every little thing they could for example we all have electric scooters that that our family loves riding around on and have never had an issue with at any campsite we have ever been too. After 3 days being there and riding all over they wanted too say our insurance doesn’t want people on electric scooters keep them at your campsite. This being said they have there kids and other kids in the campground driving golf carts around. As well as adults driving golf carts around drinking. Overall needs a lot of updating. And have a ton of open seasonal spots probably considering all of these things I mentioned I can see why. Sad to see this nice campground going in a bad direction. Hope they start upgrading and save it before it goes into the ground.
Enjoying our first season camping here! Our family loves the lake and the friendly and quiet atmosphere! We were so excited to find this hidden gem when looking for a sesonal site. looking forward to many more seasons at the lake.
