three lakes WMA campground About
For Floridians seeking a genuine, no-frills outdoor adventure, the Three Lakes WMA Campground in Kenansville offers an authentic primitive camping experience. Nestled within the vast Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area (WMA), this campground is a gateway to the raw beauty of Central Florida's natural landscapes. It's a destination designed for those who appreciate simplicity, self-reliance, and direct immersion in the wilderness, far from the crowds and commercialism of more developed campgrounds. Whether you're a seasoned hunter, a dedicated hiker, or simply someone looking to unplug and enjoy the quiet solitude of nature, Three Lakes WMA Campground provides an ideal setting.
The campsite's primitive nature is a key aspect, appealing to those who prefer a less structured camping environment. As one returning visitor noted, "2nd winter here - seeing friends I made last year! Just vault toilets provided (no trash cans, picnic tables, potable water, hookups, etc.) but about 30 minutes to Walmart, Publix, Planet Fitness, gas." This review perfectly encapsulates the blend of rustic camping with surprising access to modern conveniences. It highlights the community aspect that can develop among regular visitors, creating a friendly atmosphere even in a primitive setting. The explicit mention of what is NOT provided sets clear expectations, ensuring campers come prepared for a truly self-sufficient experience.
Another review further clarifies the campground's design and purpose: "Three Lakes has 3 different primitive campgrounds for use by hunters free of charge during the hunting seasons. Each has a standard primitive restroom (2 toilets over holes in the ground). No showers or other resources so you need to bring and take everything in yourself." This information is vital for prospective campers, emphasizing the "pack it in, pack it out" philosophy and the need for complete self-sufficiency regarding water, trash, and other resources. The designation as a "hunt camp" indicates that it can get "busier" on weekends, particularly during hunting seasons, which is important for visitors to consider when planning their trip. Despite the minimal amenities, the positive sentiment from returning campers suggests that for the right kind of outdoor enthusiast, Three Lakes WMA Campground offers a rewarding and authentic wilderness experience.
Three Lakes WMA Campground is located along the Florida Trail in Kenansville, FL 34739, USA. Kenansville is a small, unincorporated community in Osceola County, Central Florida, known for its vast ranchlands, agricultural areas, and proximity to significant natural preserves. The campground's placement within the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area (WMA) signifies its integration into a large, state-managed public land system designed for conservation and recreation. The address's reference to the Florida Trail is a key indicator for hikers and backpackers, as the campsite provides direct access to this renowned long-distance footpath.
The accessibility of Three Lakes WMA Campground is straightforward for many Floridians, albeit with an understanding that it leads to a rural, natural setting. It is approximately a 30-minute drive from more developed areas, as highlighted by a reviewer mentioning proximity to "Walmart, Publix, Planet Fitness, gas." This suggests reasonable access from larger towns like St. Cloud or Kissimmee. The campsite is specifically noted to be "Off Canoe Creek Rd," a recognizable route in the area. While public transportation is non-existent in this remote location, personal vehicles are essential for reaching the campground. Visitors should be prepared for potentially unpaved or less-maintained roads within the WMA, though generally accessible for standard vehicles. The benefit of this slightly more remote location is the true immersion into nature, providing a peaceful retreat far from urban noise and light pollution. Its convenient distance to essential services, combined with its secluded feel, offers a balanced outdoor experience for prepared campers.

Three Lakes WMA Campground offers free camping, which is its primary "promotion" or special offer. This means there are no nightly fees for using the designated campsites. However, it is imperative for all campers to understand that this free access comes with specific requirements and regulations.
To utilize the campground, visitors must possess appropriate permits or licenses, depending on their activity and the time of year. For general camping, visitors should always check the regulations of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) for the Three Lakes WMA. During hunting seasons, a valid hunting license and management area permit are required. Even for non-hunting use, some activities or extended stays might require a free "Special Use License" obtainable from the SFWMD.
There are no additional "promotions" in the traditional sense (like discounts or bundled packages) as it's a managed public land site. The "offer" is access to a pristine, primitive wilderness experience without a direct camping fee. Always confirm current regulations and permit requirements before your visit to ensure a smooth and legal stay.

2nd winter here - seeing friends I made last year! Just vault toilets provided (no trash cans, picnic tables, potable water, hookups, etc.) but about 30 minutes to Walmart, Publix, Planet Fitness, gas. Off Canoe Creek Rd. It's a hunt camp so weekends get busier.
Three Lakes has 3 different primitive campgrounds for use by hunters free of charge during the hunting seasons. Each has a standard primitive restroom (2 toilets over holes in the ground). No showers or other resources so you need to bring and take everything in yourself.
Beautiful place lots to explore. Enough room not to be right next to someone like in a developed camp. Free of charge to camp here. Has 2 vault toilets looked pretty clean. There's water spigot but I would only use it to wash things off as it's pretty brown. No trash it's pack it in and pack it out but there's garbage cans right down the road at the boat launch north of camp. There's a spot to clean fish as well behind the hunters check in place.
Nothing but a double outhouse and a cliquish bunch of people ...
Camped while on a cross country motorcycle trip. Pretty cool place. Only stayed from sundown to sun up so don't have much more for you lol
